This is truly becoming a communist country. When a child works hard 12 years to graduate and then you can't even show your excitement without being arrested.

The officials are being a stuffed shirt. So what if you clap and it take an extra 10 minutes for everyone to walk across the stage. They deserve it. Stop trying to take that away from them. They (ones making the rules) act like they were never that age.

Give me a break! That is becoming very STUPID, only that's not a strong enough word.

Who was arrested and where?

They said to hold the applause at my kids graduation, but no one did.

whiteflower...I agree 100%.

My son graduated last week. The principal said when your child's name is read, stand up and you'll be recognized too. We whistled and hollered. So what if it took a few extra minutes (keep in mind my son graduated with 1184 other students....lol). It was long but worth it!! The only rule was no horns. Come on people...

Maybe the school board wants to hit the bars and the Graduation Ceremony is holding them up.

I was on my way out the door to work when I heard this, not sure who and where. It was in the Fort Worth, Dallas area.

After 12 long yrs, 13 counting Kindergarten, I think kids should be granted their parents and friends a little extra time at graduation to give applauds and recognition.

Of course there is always some that have to over do and take advantage of things and makes it hard for everyone involved.

Clapping to liberals is like keeping score.
They abhor "competition" as to them it hurts the self esteem of those who cant keep up.
UNless of course it is the minority studnet/football players who gets the hootin and hollern

When school officials in Rock Hill, South Carolina, tell graduation ceremony crowds to hold their applause until the end, they mean it — Police arrested seven people after they were accused of loud cheering during the ceremonies.

Six people at Fort Mill High School's graduation were charged Saturday and a seventh at the graduation for York Comprehensive High School was charged Friday with disorderly conduct, authorities said. Police said the seven yelled after students' names were called.
"I just thought they were going to escort me out," Jonathan Orr told The Herald of Rock Hill. "I had no idea they were going to put andcuffs on me and take me to jail."
Orr, 21, spent two hours in jail after he was arrested when he yelled for his cousin at York's commencement at the Winthrop University Coliseum.
Rock Hill police began patrolling commencements several years ago at the request of school districts who complained of increasing disruption. Those

LMBO at UCHTT. Right on about keeping score.

But here's the thing. From what I understand that school had problems in the past, therefore they came up with this.

Knwing this, why would anyone dare break the law, even as stupid as it is WHILE THE COPS ARE RIGHT THERE?!

If someone lit a joint next to a cop and was arrested, we'd call them stupid! If I ran a red light while sitting next to a cop car, I'd be stupid! By estimation is that these people were also stupid.

Is it a law that you can't cheer your child or family member or even a friend of theirs on when they receive their well earned diploma?

This sounds too communistic too me.

It may be stupid, but I was always taught to obey a law and challenge it later if I didn't agree with it.

I'm with you Scotty, also, call me "not spirited", I really didn't care to go to my own graduation. I had to, but didn't bother sending out invites. I can understand the hold on applause, and if thats what they stated at the beginning, then they need to follow rules. Why be suprised when you get in trouble, are we children?? No, can't follow the rules, there will be consequences. Simple as that

The same holds true for marijuana. I don't use but did in the 70's (and I inhaled). I believe it is a stupid las but it is a law. I broke it repeatedly but that didn't make it right. I was fortunate not to get caught.

These people were cognizant of the law, no matter how foolish it is, and yet CHOSE to violate it in the vicinity of the police.

How can you not arrest thm under those circumstances?

Ok here is the other side.

Your sitting next to the family of 10 hollering and clapping because their family member just got their diploma but because of the noise you miss hearing your son or daughters name being called. Or in the case of most North Texas schools because you have to delay between each student 15 to 30 seconds to let the commotion die down now that graduation ceremony has stretched out to 4 to 6 hours maybe longer. Sure they went over the top in arresting them. They should have just escorted them out of the building but like people have said before you knew the rules going in don't break them or suffer the consequences and stop whining.

Well, you are all right. You are suppose to obey the law, and you should not break it, I was just shocked when I heard this. They need to let them clap, but yes, I guess it could get out of hand. But to say hold your applause seems too harsh. I wonder if they were told they would be arrested.

1184 students. 30sec delay for each student=9.8hrs. That's a long time for grad cermonies.

scotty,

The only way to change laws that are bad ISNT GOING TO THE LEGISLATORS, THEY DONT CARE UNLESS YOUR NAME IS L.OBBIEST.

I LIKE CIVL DISOBEDIENCE WHEN IT COMES TO INANE LAWS

I don't mind a clapping, but some go way over board and keeping yelling their family member's name long after they have crossed the stage. It happened at my university, it was ridiculous the President had to stop the whole line so that other families could hear the name of their loved one. The idiots of that family also yelled at his name minutes later just as they got ready to start the benediction.

It was truly an embarrassment to the rest of the graduates whose familes knew how to act. I would say only 3-5 were over the top, with the one group out of control.

It's not communist.. It's fascist.. Big difference. The arrests were wrong, pure and simple.

I'm a female senior, but do not think of myself that way. I can't believe my age when it is spoken. I play the guitar, making quilts, like dancing, and go to church. I am a family person. I love my country and can't stand to see what is happening to it.
