Walking in Memphis

Last weekend I enjoyed a "girls weekend" with my mom and my sister. We went to Tunica and Memphis. I'm not Kenny Rogers, so the whole gambling thing wasn't all that exciting for me, although I did win a little on the penny and nickel slots.

The real fun was in Memphis! They were have a B-B-Q Fest, so Beale St. was hoppin' for my first experience. The music was amazing! It was very cool to go from place to place all along the street and hear all the different people playing. Guitars of all shapes and sizes were everywhere!

The highlight by far was Graceland! I was there in 1978...30 years ago you stood in line outside the gates and walked up that long driveway, past the pool and his grave and that was it!

Now you wait across the street and take a shuttle to the front door. The first thing I realized was that it isn't as big as I always thought it was! Before I went, people told me he had hideous taste, that the colors were awful! I disagree! I liked it...well, the kitchen carpet wasn't "all that" and at the time, green shag carpet was fashionable...even on the ceiling!

This is getting long, so I'll hurry it up...there are many museums with all kinds of his stuff on display. Seeing all his jumpsuits reminded me of Tim Ezell and I could see Glenn picking up any one of his guitars and bieng right at home.

Inside are slide shows, they are kind of fun!

Those are some cool pictures. I bet you had a great time. Cherish these times with your mom. You'll be glad you did. I had a trip like that to Chicago. Except my mom took me there to talk me into a divorce from wasband #1. LOL

"Walking in Memphis" was a great song by Mark Cohn that helped win for him a Grammy back in '91.

i heard that song whe i was in texas back in 89 or so when i was my cousin and her husband that was stationed at shephard air force base in witchita falls met alot of great people in the airforce there i remember the party we had back then
