It is because the person doing the attacking is in front of a keyboard and monitor, not that person's face. Plain and simple.

I don't know exactly what you are looking for in a response but, I agree that if we were arguing these diferent views face to face, we would be more polite. It is easy to argue with a faceless entity that you don't really know. For instance, I can argue politics, religion, etc. with family members, but I always remain polite because these are people I interact with at numerous family gatherings. Since we don't know any bloggers personally, it is easier to really speak our minds as there is no emotional attachment.

In a way, it's a good thing that we can be more open about how we REALLY feel without holding back. I still try to remain polite, but why not argue if you disagree? That's kind of the point here.

Erock- There is a difference between arguing and debating, and attacking people

Calling people names doesn't really prove anything, but it does feel good temporarily.

2 people can disagree without "attacking" people with Argumentum Ad Hominems,

and yes I know that I have a few times fallen into doing this in response to others, but it is nothing compared to the many personal insults and ad hominems that have been leveled that I have seen other do.

Yes, it's alot easier on line because it is alot more difficult for most people to say things to a persons face! But let's not go overboard and call people names. That is not nice and not cool. We don't know these people, or their personalities. We can disagree, but in a tactful way!
