My college roommate and her son are coming to visit me and Jordyn tomorrow. We're doing a couple of the amusement parks but I'd like to do some other things that won't cost $150/day, have us standing in line all day, and will be entertaining for the whole family. Anyone have any suggestions for some cheap fun? The kids are 11, so something that will hold their attention without driving us crazy would be great! She'll be here from Thursday til Monday!

We've made it an Annual event to go to the Nickolodeon Hotel in Orlando every year....and this year's trip is right around the corner.  I know we only live a few miles from the resort..so why spend the night, right?  Because it is one of the best places I've ever been! Here's why...it's a place for kids AND adults all at once. Let me begin with the rooms.  There are 2 bedrooms, there's a king size bed (optional) in the parents room and bunk beds in the kids room. The kids room has a tv, radio and play station. The adults has a tv, safe and plenty of closet space. Then, there's a pull out couch in the living area and a table for two, and of course a big screen tv. I haven't seen all the rooms but I think they're all pretty similar. The pool is HUGE, with 2 slides that have slime time once or twice a day. Right near the pool is the bar...for the adults of course. Inside there is a little mall, complete with 2 Nick restaurants, where you can catch Dora or Sponge Bob walking around, more fast food joints, an arcade, a couple of stores to shop in and 2 or 3 theaters where they do the interactive shows you see on Nickolodeon. And another bar near the arcade! I'm not a heavy drinker, but it's nice that you can sit with adults and have a glass of wine and still see your kids playing in the arcade. The other plus is the events they have planned for the day. Family games that get everyone in the studio audience and the 2 chosen families on stage involved! Not to mention on-site babysitting and different classes for the kids. You will never hear the kids say: "I'm bored" during your stay.

My daughter Jordyn is the best girl in the whole world!! Really! We're going to a Juneteenth Festival this month, so I told her to research what it is and how this holiday came to be, so she would know why it's a celebration (plus I needed a refresher course). Boy did she give me a shocker when she handed me a 368 word essay!! Here's what I found out from her:

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration for slaves being freed. On June 19th Major General Granger led the Union Army to Galveston, Texas to give good news that the war had ended and all slaves were freed. Because there were so few Union soldiers in Texas, the Emanicipation Proclamation didn't start being used until 2 and a half years after President LIncoln signed it, which was January 1,1863. Many speculate the delay in the news of freedom was so that slaves could finish picking the cotton crops....for free.

She wrote alot more, including quotes and why food was such a big part of festivals. She wound up re-teaching. me about my heritage.

Aren't kids great?

I found out last week that my ex-boyfriend is getting married!  It probably sounds cliche, but I am REALLY happy for him.  For the longest time we weren't able to talk to each other about our boyfriends/girlfriends, because it was uncomfortable. But now that we're both in happier relationships I think it's easier.  Once I found out the details of his wedding.....I really knew he and I were never meant to be and he has found his soulmate.

They're getting married on St. Augustine Beach. But there aren't any tux's. There are groomspeople, because they have both men and women in their bridal/groom party. His uncle was supposed to sing as they walked down the isle..but he can't come so they'll be walking to monster ballads from the 80's ( I think it's Whitesnakes "Is this love").  Their friend, who is a tv reporter got his notary license so he can preside over the nuptials. And then.....there's no reception. There serving sandwiches and meeting at the hotel bar later in the day! That's it. Short, sweet and simple. The bride-to-be is thrilled with their plans and they're both so excited!  This couple is kismet! Truly meant to be. I would NEVER have allowed us to get married like this...NEVER!  Clearly why we didn't succeed as a couple. He found his true love and I am thrilled...but I'm not invited to the wedding.

So what's the most non-traditional wedding you've been to, or been in? I would love to hear your story.

Summer is here! That means kids are out of school and moms (and dads) are racking their brains out trying to figure out what the heck to do with the kids!  My daughter is going to New York for the summer, but not until July! Until recently I had no idea what I was going to do with her. I just knew she wasn't going to be laying around the house all summer!! Luckily, a friend of mine sent me a link to Seminole Community College's summer program.  They're offering not only, fun, but educational courses!  Jordyn will be taking Spanish and Etiquette to start (no more eating with her hands!)  Here's the link if you'd like to sign your kids up. http://www.scc-fl.edu/pdf/summer_youth_workshops2007

When you're with someone for a couple of years things are bound to get stale....right? So when you're significant other starts fantasizing about someone else, is that cheating? Let's say he or she accidentally calls you the wrong name, is that grounds for a break-up? Does that mean there's a problem with your relationship? How would you react?  Before you ask, no it's never happened to me! But if it did I'm not sure my ego could handle it. I think I'd have to dump him and move on.

You often hear men say that women are 'crazy'....but I gotta tell you, men aren't too far behind.  In fact...they may be ahead of us.  During Christmas break I ran into Brent, a high school sweetheart ,out at a club.  We hung out for a while. He tried to kiss me and I gave him the 'take a walk' look.  We exchanged numbers and talked about going out the next night but I cancelled.  That was DECEMBER!  Last week, in May, I got a phone call at 1:54AM....yes in the Morning!!! From none other than Brent!  He began the conversation with "Guess who?"! HUH? Guess who?  It's 2 am on a Thursday and you're asking guess who?  I asked him if he was ok and he said yes.  I told him I was getting ready for work and couldn't talk.  I know what you're thinking.....he wanted to hook up....but that wasn't it!  He lives in NYC and there's no way he was traveling from the Big Apple to hook up! So, what makes an old boyfriend call an old girlfriend... 5 months after they bump into each other? I've asked around and no one seems to have an answer. The only thing I can come up with is that the men that say women are crazy....are nuttier than fruitcakes themselves.

Here's the scenario: You meet a handsome guy at the grocery store and you hit off immediately!  After talking for almost an hour you decide you'll give him your phone number. Then you wait for the call. Day 1...nothing. Day 2.....nothing.  Day 3....right before bed time he calls. Is this something guys really do?  Do men really think if they call someone they're interested in, that night or the next day, that she will be turned off? Or is this 'wait 3 days' rule just a cliche from the movie Swingers? (Shannon Butler told me that's where the whole thing came from). Ladies, what do you you think?  Are you annoyed when a man calls you the day after you give him your number, or are you flattered?

I need a makeover! I want new makeup and a new hairstyle.  For the past couple of weeks I've gone to this website, www.makeoversolutions.com and have been experimenting with different lengths, colors and styles.  You can upload your picture and pick out different hairstyles and makeup, it's very cool.  The new haircut I want is straight with bangs...full bangs.  My News Director doesn't like that look and since he pretty much pays me twice a month, I have to look for a new style. Jim say's I look better with curly hair. What do you think? What should my new look consist of?? I you have pictures please post them along with your blog.

People Magazine has released their picks for The 100 Most Beautiful People, and I'm kinda surprised at their choice for the number 1 spot....Drew Barrymore. I asked almost everyone in the newsroom their opinion, and all but one person agreed that Drew is cute, but not beautiful.  Drew say's that happy people are beautiful and I whole heartedly agree with that. But let's face it, Hollywood is NOT about inner beauty. Others on the top 100 list are Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, Alicia Keys, Sandra Bullock, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tyra Banks and Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Garner, Scarlett Johansson, Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Halle Berry, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood and Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz.  I don't get how Wentz made the list either!  He wears more eyeliner and mascara than me and Heidi put together. Do you agree with People's Most Beautiful picks?

I just got introduced to this method of success called "The Secret".  It was first a book and now it's a movie. According to the testimonials success, wealth, happiness and love are ALL yours if....you follow the secret.

Here's an excerpt from their website:

This is The Secret to everything - the secret to unlimited joy, health, money, relationships, love, youth: everything you have ever wanted.

In this astonishing program are ALL the resources you will ever need to understand and live The Secret. For the first time in history, the world's leading scientists, authors, and philosophers will reveal The Secret that utterly transformed the lives of every person who ever knew it... Plato, Newton, Carnegie, Beethoven, Shakespeare, Einstein.

I've just started "The Secret", but it's too soon to tell if it's working.  Has anyone else tried "The Secret" ? Did it work for you?  Is it just a bunch of poppycock? What do you think?

You probably already know about My Fox Pets. If you haven't taken a look you really need to...even if you're not a animal lover.  I spent about an hour this morning laughing at the dogs, cats, birds and yes, even lizards! The things people do to their pets...it's hilarious! My favorites are:

March Pet #52 - This cool cat has shades, a tie and...well you'll have to see the best part for yourself.

April Pet #169 - Emma is quite a dog! She is on a raft....and get this....she's got snorkeling gear on!!

Pet #208 Misso, Tommy and Frankie.  Last, but not least these 3 cats are just plain adorable!  It doesn't hurt that they have a caption saying: "We love Trei!".  I love you guys too (And your owner!)

I finally felt well enough Saturday night to get out of bed. I went to see Will Ferrell's new flick "Blades of Glory". I love Will Ferrell and am a big fan of Napoleon Dynamite so I figured it couldn't lose....and you know what??  I was right! It was hilarious!!  In my opinion it was better than Talladega Nights and Anchorman. Some of the scenes just have you bursting out with laughter. If you want a silly, easy to watch flick...I think this may be the film for you. Anybody out there see it and NOT like it?

What's the best way to tell a guy "I'm not interested"?  I'm sure there are a number of obvious ways that might hurt one's feelings.  But how can you tell someone your not interested without hurting their feelings. I asked a male friend of mine that question and he said: "Pay for your meal".  He said when a woman pays for her meal on the first few dates, it shows a man that she's not interested in another one.  Is this true? Have I missed this subtle, yet obvious signal? What do you do to let someone know you're not interested?

Bacchus Bash was Friday, March 30th at the Orlando Premium Outlets. Fox 35 was a major sponsor and the Morning Team had to man the booth. I have to admit I didn't know what to expect. But, when me and Jordyn got there we were more than pleasantly surprised!! There was great music, delicious food and lots of people in a GREAT mood!! Fox actually paid me to meet, eat, drink and be merry!! It was a blast. Thank you to all the people who waited patiently for an autographed picture or just to meet us. It's always wonderful to hear that someone enjoys what you do. In between meeting, eating, and greeting we did a little shopping. The sales were so good we went back Sunday for round 2!  If you didn't get to Bacchus Bash this year....you gotta go next year. It is a great way to spend your Friday evening.

I am the very proud mother of a daughter named Jordyn. She is the smartest, sweetest, funniest kid I've ever met (I guess I may be a little biased). We have three cats, Jazmyn, Jakob and Joshua. Jake is my favorite, he's a cat that act's like a dog! Seriously, he greets me at the door, fetches toys, and chews on my shoes!! Thanks for joining the my fox orlando community and I invite you to join my blog and speak your mind.
