Hello ya'll folks in Houston.  My son has recently become engaged to be married and thinks that L.A. In California is just too darn expensive (it is) and he cannot get any financial aid for schooling which he has been told he could get there, so last weekend he took me to lunch so he could drop that bombshell on me.

I never interfere in my kids lives and I want what is the best for them and of course want them to be happy, I just didnt realize it was going to take  2 days driving or a plane trip to do it.

So now the question, I believe they will be somewhere around Fort Worth ( I may be wrong) So how is it like around there? are there any decent job opportunities?  Is the cost of living really so much better? Good areas, bad areas, any input you have will be very helpful.

I was wondering what a good website would be for checking out real estate both for rentals and for buying.

My son will be 23 on the 19 of April so he is new to all of this and of course anything I can do to help his transition easier would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

jobs, try all the main job search engines.
monster, careerbuilder, hotjobs. Just search in that area and it will give you an idea about what is out there. also most city newspapers give a good listing on housing. And apartment locaters can also help. they work free of charge. I used them to find my condo in NYC.
also you said you loved animals? check out my photo section. I have a king cheetah named chancey and I have lots and lots of photos...

anyway, hope that helps.

Hi Thornyone,

I used to live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. It is a nice place with tons of jobs (at least when I was there several years ago). The area is pretty, there are lots of things to do.

Good luck!

Thanks to all of your replies. I am trying to be so brave but I'll tell you I am so sad at the thought of not having my son close by.
I do appreciate all of your responses, that helps a lot. I hope all goes well for him. Whats the weather like in that area? I always thing of this hot dry dusty place and I prefer the cooler, moist air with lots of foliage. I should really be in Northern California or Oregon.
