Now taking bets

On television today a Democratic operative pointed out that when Obama holds a rally 25-30,000 people show up, whereas when McCain holds one he only draws 10-15,000.

 A Republican spokesman replied, 'That's because most of McCain's supporters are at work.

Excerpt from Forbes 400 article:

"The rich haven't gotten richer--or poorer--this year. The price of admission to this, the 27th edition of The Forbes 400, is $1.3 billion for the second year in a row. The assembled net worth of America's wealthiest rose by $30 billion--only 2%--to $1.57 trillion."

So, send them the bill for the bailout!

Animals that were formerly self-sufficient are now showing signs of belonging to the Democratic Party... as they have apparently learned to just sit and wait for the government to step in and provide for their care and sustenance. "McCain’s big tax cuts would be a hard sell. His plan to extend Bush’s cuts and add more would cost $627 billion over 10 years. Even if it spurred the economy and brought in more revenue, there would be a lag and the deficit would still rise. McCain’s plans to rein in spending...freezing domestic programs at current levels and ending earmarks...would save only $20 billion a year, barely denting the deficit."

"Obama wouldn’t fare much better. His tax hike on upper-incomers, along with cuts for most others, would add $595 billion in revenue over 10 years. But that wouldn’t go far in fulfilling his promises to spend $15 billion more a year on alternative energy, $18 billion on education and $100 billion on health care. Also at risk: More funding to rebuild the armed forces, expand job training, shore up Medicaid, lend more to small businesses and boost science research."

Good news: They beat the spread last night. Cha Ching.

Bad news: I looked at the schedule - I don't see them winning any games this year.

Pitts doo-doo is going down Sunday!

Ok, so we're gonna make electric cars so we don't have to be dependent on oil from those pesky third world ingrates. Well folks, we gonna go from one dependency to another. Below is an excerpt from my Kiplinger newsletter. Pay special attention to the last sentence. Doh!!:

"U.S. businesses are losing the race to make rechargeable auto batteries,the kind that will be in great demand when plug-in hybrid cars take off. Chinese and Japanese firms are rapidly locking up the market for rechargeables, which will let most Americans commute to work without using an ounce of gasoline. The upshot: A switch from depending on foreign oil to depending on foreign batteries."
