I'm not an expert but my years of experience on a police department in a rural area of NJ , I've seen numerous trees downed by storms. I'm curious as if the tree that came down on 40th Street between Cactus and Shea could have been avoided. Did that one treee cause a chain reaction that took down the line of utility poles? I'm glad I'm in a area where all the utility lines are underground.
To my point. Tree maintenance. Trees are nice and serve a great purpose but it is important to remember that they have to be thinned out occasionally so wind can flow through them as well as around them. Winds will take the path of least resistance and if there's a tree that's full there is no doubt the wind will take that tree down.
If you have trees please maintain them. Your help may save thousands from being without power and save those power crews from coming out and doind alot of work that didn't need to be done.
Fox news is right. We will talk about this storm for years. Let us learn from it.

NEW AIRLINE RULES
Attendant: Welcome aboard Ala Carte Air, sir. May I see your ticket?
Passenger: Sure.
Attendant: You're in seat 12B. That will be $5, please!
Passenger: What for?
Attendant: For telling you where to sit.
Passenger: But I already knew where to sit.
Attendant: Nevertheless, we are now charging a seat locator fee of $5.
It's the airline's new policy.
Passenger: That's the craziest thing I ever heard. I won't pay it.
Attendant: Sir, do you want a seat on this flight, or not?
Passenger: Yes, yes. All right, I'll pay. But the airline is going to hear about this.
Attendant: Thank you. My goodness, your carry-on bag looks heavy.
Would you like me to stow it in the overhead compartment for you?
Passenger: That would be swell, thanks.
Attendant: No problem. Up we go, and done! That will be $10, please.
Passenger: What?
Attendant: The airline now charges a $10 carry-on assistance fee.
Passenger: This is extortion. I won't stand for it.
Attendant: Actually, you're right, you can't stand. You need to sit,
And fasten your seat belt. We're about to push back from the gate. But, first I need that $10.
Passenger: No way!
Attendant: Sir, if you don't comply, I will be forced to call the air marshal.
And you really don't want me to do that.
Passenger: Why not? Is he going to shoot me?
Attendant: No, but there's a $50 air-marshal hailing fee.
Passenger: Oh, all right, here, take the $10. I can't believe this.
Attendant: Thank you for your cooperation, sir. Is there anything else I can do for you?
Passenger: Yes. It's stuffy in here, and my overhead fan doesn't seem to work. Can you fix it?
Attendant: Your overhead fan is not broken, sir. Just insert two quarters into the
Overhead coin slot for the first five minutes.
Passenger: The airline is charging me for cabin air?
Attendant: Of course not, sir. Stagnant cabin air is provided free of charge.
It's the circulating air that costs 50 cents.
Passenger: I don't have any quarters. Can you make change for a dollar?
Attendant: Certainly, sir! Here you go!
Passenger: But you've given me only three quarters for my dollar.
Attendant: Yes, there's a change making fee of 25 cents.
Passenger: For cryin' out loud. All I have left is a lousy quarter?
What the heck can I do with this?
Attendant: Hang onto it. You'll need it later for the lavatory.

Does anybody besides me see the similarities between the oil speculators and Dan Akroyd and Eddie Murphy in the movie Trading Places? They speculated on citrus crops to drive the price up. Granted the outcomes had to different purposes but it just goes to show what speculation can do.

Pay less for gas if you pay cash. If you pay by credit card you pay more. Your only paying more because your picking up the expense of using your credit card that the service station would usually have to pay.
I think it was in Consumer Reports that I read that no business can charge you extra for using your credit card. I wish I had the info for you all to read it but I did see the atricle. It did say that you can report the business to your credit card company and they would suspend the credit card services for that business.
Happy Motoring!!

So McCain wants to offer 3 million dollars to someone to invent a reliable electric car. If memory serves me correctly GM developed the EV 1. If GM brought that car back they wouldn't be hurting financially.
GM leased the vehicle to comsumers and there was no option to buy the vehicle at the end of the lease. The car used no fossil fuel (the oil companies didn't like that) and there was little maintenace/repairs needed (GM didn't like that).
Granted the car wasn't for everyone but for people traveling short distances it was a great car. It had a top speed of 80 MPH, had a 80 mile range on a single charge and went 0-50 mph in 7 seconds.
Turns out that the car was so good that GM took all the cars back from the leasee at the end of the lease and crushed them all in a scrap yard. I believe there might be one or two in storage.
So we have the technology....why don't we use it. Seems the plus out weighs the minus on this one. Just my opinion.
