VIDEO: Police Beating Video Caught on Tape by FOX 29-Philadelphia

Last week old wounds were reopened after that shocking abortion of justice in New York when the three officers who murdered that young man in a hail of 50 shots fired were found not guilty at their bench trial. Now we have yet another disgusting case of police brutality. Caught on tape by the local FOX affiliate in Philadelphia, about twelve police officers beating three men. The three men are pulled from the car and thrown on the ground. Then they are kicked and punched as they are on the ground.

The police try to justify this blatant act of police brutality by claiming the police were under "stress and pressure" because of the death of another officer. That's not an excuse!! You cannot excuse savagely beating a person because you are under "stress and pressure". How many of us are stressed or under pressure at work or school at times? Not an excuse. If you are an officer of the law it's your job to uphold the law. To these officers in Philadelphia as well as the three in New York: you did the crime, now you need to do the time!

FROM: The New York Times

PHILADELPHIA — About 12 police officers were videotaped on Monday beating three men stopped in response to a drug-related shooting, and six of the officers have been removed from patrols, Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey said Wednesday.

In the incident, captured by a Fox TV helicopter, officers surrounded a car carrying the three men. They were pulled from the car, and two were kicked and punched on the ground by officers on the driver’s side. The third man was beaten by other officers on the passenger side.

The incident, on Monday night, in the Hunting Park section followed the shooting death of Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski, 39, a 12-year member of the force, on Saturday in the nearby Port Richmond section.

Sergeant Liczbinski was pursuing three robbery suspects. The police arrested a man sought in the case late Wednesday night, the Associated Press reported. Another was arrested on Sunday, and a third was fatally shot by an officer shortly after the officer’s killing, The A.P. said.

Mr. Ramsey said at a news conference that the police were under great "stress and pressure" after Sergeant Liczbinski’s death. He is the third Philadelphia officer to be killed in the line of duty in the last two years.

But, Mr. Ramsey added, there was no excuse for the behavior on the videotape.

The video is being examined to try to identify more officers involved in the beatings. Mr. Ramsey said he expected more officers to be reassigned to administrative duties as a result.

District Attorney Lynne Abraham will decide on filing criminal charges against the officers, Mr. Ramsey said.

The new mayor, Michael A. Nutter, has emphasized reducing the violence that has given Philadelphia one of the highest murder rates in the nation.

Mr. Nutter and Mr. Ramsey are trying to overcome decades of distrust between the mostly black residents of areas like North Philadelphia and a largely white police force.

The beating victims, all from North Philadelphia, have all been charged with assault, conspiracy and recklessly endangering another person. D. Scott Perrine, a lawyer for the three, called the incident a blatant example of police brutality.

"We have not seen stuff like this since the 1960s and the 1970s in Philadelphia," Mr. Perrine said. "These officers are criminals, and they should be prosecuted."

He denied that his clients had any connection with the shooting of Sergeant Liczbinski, and he said the Police Department was seeking to explain the “zealousness” of the officers in the incident by saying the force as a whole was distressed and exhausted by the sergeant’s death.

The three men are being held on bail, awaiting a preliminary hearing on May 16.

Polar Bear:

Do you smell a media circus getting ready to spill blood on National TV? I think something is looming, and it's going to get extremely ugly...hopefully not a riot, but certainly ugly, unfortunately.

We, as a Nation should RIOT. Why wasn't every COP on sight charged? We would be if we took part in a Riot. This will be another cover up for All those good COPS! Where in the Hell were they. Some Idiot killed one of THEIR Fellow Officers, so we will extract Blood for Blood. If someone Kills one of our FAMILY MEMBERS and we extract Punishment, these same BLUE MAFIA GOOD COPS will certainly shoot you on sight. We have to stop this Cancer and stop it NOW!!

hrider,

I take it you are half joking but trying to make a point here. We should have our voices heard, albeit in every legal way possible. I'll never forget the Los Angeles riot in '92, with the looting going on. Even in my home turf Orange County California, where we were at least 20 miles away, we felt the effects of the riot...the uneasiness which lingered around for weeks after the riots. Those fine folks in Philly are going to feel things for weeks on end now. I just hope it doesn't get any worse for them.

When we, the People and all of our Elected Elites watch as other Countries hand out Justice in this VERY FORM, we, the Anointed Greats condemn the actions in full force. When are we going to bring back a System Of Justice that we and the rest of the World will cherish? I am not for Lawlessness by anyone. I have been called names on here, Racist, Bigot, to name a few. But you can clearly see why the Black Community should hate the Cops and others for this kind of Abuse. If you were caught doing this same thing (KICKING and BEATING) a DOG, you and I know that it would never be tolerated. I thought and was raised to obey the Law and the Officers! Is the Motto " To Protect and Serve"? Is this how servants treat their BOSSES? I think not.

So far, it's just the 3 of us on this blog, and we're all basically saying the same thing...we need to send some kind of message that counts. By the way, did you pick this up from MyFoxPhilly, or are you on MyFoxCleveland? I'm a MyFoxLA regular, but I happened to reply to one of Polar Bear's other blogs when I saw this one. I often check MyFoxPhilly too, and blog with some of their regulars.

i would bet dollars to donuts this will be another rodney king mess...........

and this news media is not telling the whole story....if these guys did nothing wrong, why are THEY the ones in jail?

there's more to this story..........typical liberal democrat rants.....incomplete & inflammatory............(not YOU girlyscout)

In this great country We are innocent until proven guilty. My hearfelt sympathies go out to the fallen officer and his family. Howeve that doesn't give his fellow co-workers the right to pummel suspects. From what I understand the crime that the suspects committed was they resembled the discription of the cop killers. dprin339 - They're in Jail because the city of Philly are searching frantically for some damage control. Have you heard of what the formal charges are?

no news on formal charges yet that i can see, so you're assumption about WHY they are in jail is just conjecture as well.

maybe they DID resemble the cop killers, and maybe they really ARE the cop killers.......who knows?

i sincerely doubt that the cops just rolled up on these guys without probable cause.......there's too much missing information here

i watched the video on myfoxphilly........something's not right here.

i saw the officers trying to get these guys out of the car.......and the guys were not complying right away, especially the one on the passenger side.........did anyone see that?

now i'm not saying that that in itself warrants a beating, but when a police officer gives you an order, you follow it, to the letter, immediately!

also, no one knows what is being said between the suspects & the officers..........again, if these guys are being defiant, or something worse, then maybe the beating was justified.....

and they are being held on something.......is it possible these guys had other warrants? had history?

I'm not sure what you saw but I saw three men on the ground getting kicked and punched. This was AFTER they were out of the car and on the ground. I didn't see any resisting. All I saw was a swarm of blood thirsty pigs ready to attack as soon as that car stopped.

Wow DPRIN, I really thought better of you. Guess I was wrong. Taking the typical republican "the cops are always right" point of view.

What we saw in that film is not a routine traffic stop. It is a disgusting abuse of police power. Not even that. It's a violation of the law. That was an attack.

Like waterlover said, the suspects may have "resembled" the actual killer. That doesn't give the cops the right to treat these individuals like that. And the fact they are still detained doesn't sit well. Can anyone say falsified evidence?

no PB, i never said the cops were right, but we don't know the whole story yet............so, who knows who's right & who's wrong?

you did not see when the cops approached the car at the very beginning? on the passenger side, the cop hit the car with the night stick at least 20 times before the guys opened the door! watch it again on myfoxphilly the WHOLE thing

if this is the probable cause to stop them (the resemblance), then the men, knowing they were victims of mistaken identity should have immediately complied with the orders from the officers..........and maybe just maybe this would not have happened

watch it again PB

I've watched it several times. I don't care what happened before. You still don't kick and punch a suspect after they are on the ground. Oh my god!! It took the a few seconds for the dude to get out of the car. He should get his ass kicked for that. Just shows are arrogant some cops are. They were complying with the orders-nobody ran, nobody fought back. It doesn't take "the whole story" to see those men were abused. That video is the "whole story"!

ahhhhhhhh PB, come on now, wouldn't you want the whole story considered if it were YOU? quit being so narrow minded here...........there is alot more to this than meets the eye!

Well then, let's hear it!! Still doesn't change the fact these men were beaten. What if that was you - or one of your kids who was beaten for "looking" like someone wanted for a crime. You'd be on 19 Action News screaming about police brutality. You'd have a good lawyer ready to take their badges. This behavior is unacceptable and needs to be attacked and confronted EVERY TIME. Times like this I wish I was a lawyer.

dprin339 - I received my information from the Mayor of Philly. He did an interview on 93.1 FM the day after it happened. He stated that it was a mistaken identity. I don't believe I'm supposed to immediately dive out of the car and on the ground when the police pulls me over. C'mon, the only thing these officers had on there mind was serving up some revenge for there fallen comrad. There was no reason at all to kick and stomp the suspects. It's apparent that the officers weren't concerned about the suspect being armed, because if they were the would not have approached the car in such manner, they would have been shooting from the beginning. For the record, this has nothing to do with race, it's another social injustice.

waterlover, it's possible you are right, but these officers are innocent until proven guilty just like the 3 men that were accosted..........

all i'm saying is, don't jump to hasty conclusions........look what happened when the truth was actually told about rodney king.when the WHOLE story was told, not just what the media wants us to know.........the cops were exonerated!

this COULD be the same kind of thing, none of us know what was really going on down on the street.

and yes waterlover, when a cop tells you to get out of a car, you do it immediately, without question! it's called following orders of the law........MOST law abiding citizens actually follow a police officers instructions....
