Once a disorganized hate group of hackers, Anonymous has certainly flipped the switch. They organize in impressive numbers and fight for what they feel are injustices. Or at least thats whats claimed. Is Anonymous actually reformed? Or are they simply trying to trick the public?

Anonymous first enemy wasn't a church, it was any common internet user it chose to target. They hacked people accounts on MySpace and other websites posting their information on forums where they loosely organized for vandals to slander peoples pages. In some cases they poster homosexual content, in others they posted racist text and imagery. At one point they even targeted children and young teens by invading the popular Habbo Hotel website. They came in large numbers creating black characters with afros in black suits and blocking kids from entering game maps. In a well documented case (you can find this video on YouTube) they even attempted to form a swastika blockade.

However, in late 2007 they grew from a few hundred to literally thousands. Seemingly having a change of heart, they took on a cause instead of vandalism. They decided to take on the Church of Scientology and it's founder, L. Ron Hubbard. Equally a church and man with many critics and naysayers. The church has many documented cases of infiltration of US government offices, claims of abuse by ex Scientologist's, claims that they split families apart, and even claims of wrongful death by families and friends (They don't believe in taking medication). Hubbard was said to be involved in the occult previous to his founding of the his church. His ex-wives also claim he beat them. He passed away from a stroke and toxicologists found traces of the drug Vistaril in his body (again, keep in mind he preached against drugs). They've organized a number of protests where members and other opponents around the world rally outside of Scientology churches peacefully. However, the Church has not taken their protests lying down. They have been known to set up speakers blaring out Scientology messages in order to drown out the megaphones and shouting voices.

These masked men and women claim not to have a leader. They simply chose a protest date and organize. Or in their words, "We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget."

And so I leave you with these questions:

Do you think these people are honest in their turn around?
Do you think they have a right to protest against Scientology?
Do you think its right for them to protest against Scientology?
Do you think they are a dangerous group?
Do you think Scientology is a dangerous church/group/cult (whatever you think they are)?

Here is a video of our very own, Fox 11's
Leelila Strogov doing a story on a recent protest.

Note: The lady in the top hat that talk first is a well known critic who says shes an ex Scientologist of 30 years.

o0lux0o -- I'm amazed at the sophistication with which you understand the whole "Anonymous" internet posse. They are certainly an interesting bunch that deserves this kind of attention and thought. I haven't really come to any conclusion about these guys -- I've done both negative and positive stories about them, depending upon what they happen to be up to. I also think they are as varied as the individuals who comprise the group. But at least according to some of them, they are trying to stay away from the less savory aspects of their profile these days, and are instead trying to gather together peacefully in order to effect what they deem to be positive change. History is full of examples of groups who start out getting attention for their somewhat negative tactics, and who then, after they've gained the public's ear, start behaving. Anonymous may or may not be among these groups.

This group can do more damage than good, even when the intentions are good. I agree with Leelila's response to your blog, and I don't support the Church Of Scientology. The mainstream Christian churches are right to classify the Scientology Church as a cult; any group that forces an individual to follow the leader "in faith" (which really means blindly) is either a cult, or on the verge of being a cult. Now even though Anonymous has the right to protest against the church of Scientology, their past tactics have caused them to lose their credibility. However, they are forcing people to think about the dangers of Scientology, which is a good thing.

I trust a person who doesn't hide behind a mask when speaking out. Then there are just some people who feel the need to hide.
I have never had to turn away an unwanted Scientologist away from my door at weird times of the day. At least not that I know of. Why does Scientology bother people?
Scientology seems to woprk for those who choose it. Saying it is a a Cult seems a little strong.

Mr E,
You said, "The mainstream Christian churches are right to classify the Scientology Church as a cult; any group that forces an individual to follow the leader "in faith" (which really means blindly) is either a cult, or on the verge of being a cult."

Every belief asks that you follow "in faith" including "main stream Christians." “Mainstream Christians” are asked to follow Jesus “in faith” and to believe “in faith” that Jesus died for your sins. Keep in mind that "Christian" is not the only "mainstream" religion. It depends on where you are at geographically as to what faith is considered "mainstream." Therefore, your definition of where you choose to draw your line to call anything a "cult" I must question.

Scooch,
I agree that "Scientology seems to work for those who choose it." I personally have nothing for or against Scientology... I don't know enough about it to have formed my own opinion on it.

Again I meant do not trust anyone who has to hide. You knew that I hope. Hello shans how are you?

Leelila, thank you and I agree. I hope they keep taking to this change they seem to have brought to themselves. I can see them as a group that can start something very positive and get people more involved in whats going in this country and around the world. Then again they can flip that switch and again become a group who starts to spread hate and immaturity. The question is, would this be allowed by the masses that have joined them in opposition to the Church of Scientology?

Mystere, I agree with you except for that I think they can bring about positive changes if they keep going the way they are. I don't think they are doomed to fail because of their past. They definitely have their work cut out for them in order to earn a more positive image though. Yes, no one has the right to force someone to do something. What seems to be the case with Scientology is that they make people feel vulnerable and helpless without them. Not to mention they don't let people know what the full teachings of the church are until they pay outrageous fees to reach higher OT (Operating Thetan) levels.

Scooch, they hide their faces for good reason. The Church of Scientology has a term for people who oppose them and they consider enemies. They call them SP's or Suppressive Person's. They also have a set of policies called the "Fair Game Law". These are policies where SP's, their families, friends, "homes, property, places and abodes... are all beyond any protection of Scientology Ethics". In other words, they no longer have the same rights as a Scientologist: "By FAIR GAME is meant, may not b

"By FAIR GAME is meant, may not be further protected by the codes and disciplines or the rights of a Scientologist." Now they claim they no longer use these policies since Hubbard deactivated the "law" in 1968 saying it "causes bad public relations". But, he later goes on and says, "This P/L does not cancel any policy on the treatment or handling of an SP". In effect, NOT eliminating the "law" but only the name. Ex high ranking Scientologist's have stated they in fact still have these policies in place. And so you see, they hide their faces in order to not subject them selves to these policies. I think their is great reason for people to be concerned about Scientology. Read about the things they have done and continue to do, you'll see why people like Anonymous and regular people like me are opposed.

Hell I feel like I'm taking a risk even saying what I just said in this comment. My MySpace is attached to my account here and my picture. They're ruthless.

People have asked, and continue to ask, why we wear masks. The primary reason for the masks is the protection of our identities. After all, how anonymous would we be if we exposed our faces to the world? A second reason is the protection of our lives and livelihood. Due to Scientology's Fair Game policy, we put ourselves at risk socially, politically, and financially when we speak out against this dangerous cult. This is a cult that has a well earned reputation for harassing critics and openly critical ex-scientologists at their homes and workplaces. Taking measures to protect your privacy and anonymity when confronted by an aggressively litigious cult - a cult whose mantra is "Never Defend, Always Attack!" - is a matter of common sense.

An in-depth article on the Fair Game policy can be found at Operation Clambake. A quick summary would state that any person declared Fair Game by Scientology may be attacked by legal or illegal means, and the Scientologist who commits this act may not be punished by the cult for it. While Scientology claims to have ended the policy several decades ago, they did so only in name. The cult continues to practice this policy to this day.

Craftyguy, Truthguy and Anonymous257: You have just pointed out some things which I couldn't quite pinpoint...thanks for speaking out the truth! I'm not as sharp as I should be regarding cults, but I am aware of some traits that cults have in common. One thing will always happen in cults: the leader will make a very specific prediction, and the prediction will be proven false in a period of time...such as the end of the world coming on a given date, a certain leader in the cult will live to see a certain event occur in his or her lifetime; and the list can go on.
