We're about two weeks into the Highway 40 shutdown and the world has not come to an end! It's not always convenient but I think St. Louisans are adapting very well.  I take I-44 now and it moves right along. I have to admit.. I thought it would be a lot worse than it is. How about you?

Yellow cones, lane closures, construction work, traffic jams... driving can be a little crazy right now and it's only going to get worse. I don't think any of us really realize what it's going to be like when Highway 40 closes down completely. It's going to take a lot of patience to get through the next couple of years. And a little courtesy will go a long ways, too. I always try to acknowledge it when another driver lets me in line and I appreciate it when others acknowledge me. It's not that big of a deal, but when another driver shows you some courtesy... how about a little wave?

Don't you just love tailgaters! Here's what prompted this blog.

I was driving back from Kansas City in the rain. I was in a line of traffic in the passing lane. We were all doing the 70 mph speed limit. But some guy (or woman.. I couldn't see into the car because of the tinted windows).. gets right on my bumper. Like that's going to speed things up.  There's a car in front of me. I can't jump over it. I've got cars beside me. No way he could have stopped had I needed to slam on the brakes. When I got a break in the traffic, I pulled over into the center lane. Then he roars up to the bumper of the car I had been following.. then over behind me again.. then back to the passing lane.  He finally got an opening and sped off down I-70. Don't you just love tailgaters.. and they wonder why there is "road rage."

We made it through the ice storms.. we'll make it through this snow. Afterall it is winter in St. Louis.  I think some drivers must forget that. You don't need to go ten miles per hour or you won't make it up the next hill. You also don't need to go 70 miles per hour or you may end up in the next ditch. If we take it easy.. use a little common sense.. we'll be okay. And remember... every day we make it through is one day closer to spring!

I anchor the 5pm and 9pm news at Fox 2. This is the career I chose when my dreams of playing professional baseball faded into reality. Should I coach or go into the news business? I made the right choice. But I have played sports all my life and remain an avid sports fan. When I'm not working, I enjoy working out, riding my motorcycle, playing golf and doing a little fishing.
