St. Patrick's Day parade goers will pass through security checkpoints before celebrating in the St. Louis neighborhood of Dogtown today.

Organizers with the Ancient Order of Hibernians say they're trying to keep people from bringing in their own alcohol to the parade route. Backpacks and coolers will be searched. The fraternal order is trying to reduce underage drinking and cut down on trash.

The parade starts at 12:30 Monday afternoon. Organizers say alcohol will be available for sale in the parade area. The public may bring food, water and soda. Glass containers are banned.

What do you think about the Hibernians new rule about not bringing your own beer to Dogtown on Monday?

SOUND OFF!

I am going to try to talk Jana and Tommy and Danny into going to the parade today!! It will be my first Dogtown parade, so the "new rule" won't bother me since A)I didn't know it was a new rule until now and B)I don't drink beer!!

I'll post pictures here if we go.....

I don't have a "dog" in this fight as I live 100 miles from the event but I think the actions of those who have attended in the past have brought this on...the officials need to do whatever it takes to maintain an element of order and control...HAPPY St. Pats Day...

I don't have a problem w/ it at all! I think it's going to accomplish exactly what they want. Cutting down on underage drinking and trash.

I think it's a good idea!

Just another way of controling people. I was just wondering who would be attending this parade? Most people work and the kids are in school. So all thats left are the homeless, handicapped and the people on welfare.

Actually I have gone before and it is mostly families. People take the day off work for it. A group from my family is going -not me, I don't do cold and rainy. It is a good time but I think the new rules were needed, it can get a bit out of hand with the younger groups. And I am sure the clean up was a nightmare.

Anyone know where I can get a good carryout cornbeef and cabbage dinner around here this evening--in Collinsville area?

No it was not me! :-)

I know my brother planned on it too. He was just going to put the beer on the bottom of the cooler and the soda on top. He is of age and resposible but I don't know if he got caught or not.

Never mind on the tip for cornbeef and cabbage. Spring Garden restaurant in Collinsville had it and I mean to tell you it was the best I have ever had!!!!

I feel for all those idiots that ignored the NO PARKING signs. The company my son works for received a "help me" call from one of the tow companies, they were up to their necks with illegally parked cars.
