Let me start of by saying, I am an African American woman.  I lived in Philadelphia and it's surrounding areas all my life.  I consider myself a decent, hard working human being that has compassion for my family, friends and for all people in need.

Since I have been blogging during this election, I've come across a lot of people who are just as compassionate as I and share my beliefs and views on issues in Philadelphia as well as America.  I've also come across people who seem to harbor so much hate and bigotry, whom I would be afraid to live next door to for fear of my life.

These people hate the idea of this man, Barack Obama running for President of the United States.  Not because of his intelligence, because they know he's highly intelligent.  But because of the color of this man's skin.  They make him out to be a muslin because of his name.  They make him out to be some kind of terrorist because he was a member in Rev. Wrights church.  They make him out to be an elitist because of a verb he used (cling) instead of (embrace). They seem to, no, they want to believe this man is from the filth of the earth.  This is so troubling to me that many people still hate a person because of the pigmentation of ones skin in this century as though we are still in the 20th or even 19th century during slavery.   Sure, they will come up with all types of excuses, but the bottom line, it's the color that they can't seem to bypass.    One day, I would like for someone to explain to me why my dark skin is such a threat.  It's only skin.  Underneath, I have blood vessels, bones, muscle, just like everyone else God made on this earth.

Since I was a small child, my parents always taught me to judge a person by their character, not by the way they dress, or the way they wear their hair, and most of all, not by the color of their skin.  And I lived by this rule all my life and passed it on to my children in hopes of them passing it on to their off spring.

We are now living in the year 2008 not 1908 but yet, the hate that many spew seems as though we've regressed back to 1908.  But, there is light at the end of the tunnel.  For everyone that still carries hate and bigotry (and this goes for all races and nationalities) there are five that live by the rule, judge a man/women by his/her character not by the color of his/her skin color.  This is a proven fact just by looking at Sen. Obama's campaign.  I was fortunate enough to be invited to one of Sen. Obama's rallies at the Convention Center in Philadelphia.  I have never seen so many people, black, white, Chinese, Korean, Puerto Rican, Jewish, Muslim, young, old, disabled, every kind of person you could think of at this rally.  I could feel the warmth and energy in that room. All these people from all these various backgrounds and races had ONE thing in common, CHANGE in this country which this country so badly needs.  Change, in the economy, change in high oil prices, change in this mortgage crisis, change in some peoples negative attitutude of race relations, and last but not least, to end this war and bring home our troops.  They were not there supporting a black man, but a MAN who believes in this country with all its faults who wants this country to move forward in this 21st century and have promise for our future generation.

Maybe I won't live to see the day all men will be treated as equal, all men to be judged by his character, not by his name or religion or color of his skin.  But, it's slowly evolving in this direction.  And, it's being led by our younger generation.  On any given day, I'll see a young black female, with a young white male holding hands, or a young Korean woman and her Puerto Rican husband with their young child at an amusement park.  For me, seeing the races intermingle gives me a good positive feeling.  It's showing me that skin color is becoming a thing of the past like lava lamps.  It's showing me that the future of my grandson will be more promising.  It's showing me that this country is moving in the right direction.  I believe once the barrier of race is broken, all things are possible.  That is why it's so important that  Sen. Obama becomes President of the United States.  His presidency will be the milestone of this country truly becoming ONE NATION UNDER GOD.

I know there will always be people who don't want change.  Who want hate and bigotry to last a lifetime.  This isn't directed at the white race only.  There are many blacks, Koreans, Puerto Ricans, etc who harbor hate and bigotry just as well.  But, they are being outnumbered and eventually hate and bigotry will be extinct.  I want to thank you younger generation for being greatly responsible for breaking downs the wall of hate and bigotry.  Continue to move this country forward.  Continue to see a man or woman for themselves and to not sterotype any race or nationality.  And if your parents are still living in the dark ages of bigotry and hate, show them by your actions that you will not tolerate this kind of thinking in YOUR FUTURE.

Here are your very own words:
"Since I have been blogging during this election, I've come across a lot of people who are just as compassionate as I and share my beliefs and views on issues in Philadelphia as well as America. I've also come across people who seem to harbor so much hate and bigotry, whom I would be afraid to live next door to for fear of my life."
The rest of your post means nothing if you are going to categorize people as those who agree with you (the "compassionate ones") and those who disagree with you (the bigoted and hateful ones).
How revealing are your first words. Show quite a bit of bigotry on your part.

My thoughts are that one day hate and bigotry will be gone by all races and nationalities. That's what I feel compassionate about and many people whom I communicated through blogging are compassionate about as well. There are a lot of people that are racists, and these people are from all races and nationalities. You see bigotry from my statement because that's what YOU want to see. Are you one of those that fit in that category of bigotry and hate? Just asking.

"There are a lot of people that are racists," yep momma, YOU are one of them.

and you are ASSUMING that anyone who isn't a blind obama follower/worshiper hates this man with such passion based strictly on his skin color and nothing else.

unlike you single minded racists (yes, i am referring to YOU), SOME people don't even SEE color and are more interested in the character of a person.

it IS his character that makes many people not want to vote for him. it's not hate, it's not color it's his LACK of character & experience.

Oh, no! Growing up in south Texas in the 50's as an hispanic - trust me, I was the target of bigotry. I saw it all, experienced a lot of it personally.
But the obama issue is not about race to some of us who don't agree with him. It is with what we see as his very liberal voting record, and his willingness to compromise what he says he believes when it comes to the Bible, just so he can win an election.

awnc, those & many more are the reasons i won't vote for him (or any liberal most likely)

too much flipping & flopping for me! pandering, lies, whatever. call it what you will.

the biggest one is his refusal to stand on the word of God, regardless of his political intentions.

Like I said, I take my hat off to the younger generation for being color blind. That was my main focus, abolishing bigotry and hatred from all people and nationalities.
Flip flopping, and what does McCain do? Oh, I guess you don't see that.
Stand on the word of God, you must of been listening to Rev. James Dobson. um, um, um....I'm not even going to comment on him.

wow momm, not EVERYONE is busy worshiping the wrong people.

i actually read my Bible so yes, I stand on the Word of God. do you?

please, post all the proof you have about the flip flopping of McCain, i would like to see it. (please post links to your sources as well)

breaking the barrier of racism is a two way street there mommareenie.........everyone has to bring something to the table......not just us white folk.

So, I guess you're saying Obama worships....
For one, flip flop - off shore drilling, first McCain was against, then he's for.
Ending the war in Iraq - first stay for 100 years, than 13 years or so, now, till all people in Iraq are free. We need a lot of cleaning up right here in America, first of all, freedom in the US of all bigots and racists. I don't care if Obama is in office or not, we need to do away with bigotry and racism. And Mr. Almighty, so you're saying no one brings anything to the table but white folks. That statement is so RACIST IF i ever heard one. See, that's what I'm talking about, you can say all kinds of stuff out the side of your mouth and say you're not racist or a bigot. If I made that same comment you said, I would of gotten so many comments of being a bigot. One last thing, do you believe in all races coming together as one and bigotry and racism a thing of the past or do you want race relations to stay as is?

yes, McCain has done some flopping too, here ya go:
For Senator McCain, the flip-flop everyone focused on is his proposal to resume offshore drilling. As the Washington Post notes: “McCain's announcement is a reversal of the position he took in his 2000 presidential campaign . . .”

While the change isn’t making environmentalists happy, McCain notes that a policy that made sense when gasoline was about a dollar a gallon doesn’t make much sense with gas now at $4.08 a gallon. Obviously the price has risen dramatically even compared to what it was a few months ago.

seems to make sense now doesn't it?

"Ending the war in Iraq - first stay for 100 years, than 13 years or so, now, till all people in Iraq are free" you are twisting in it typical liberal fashion

what he actually said was staying in Iraq until all the Iraqi's are free, even if it takes 100 years. again, makes more sense when you see what was actually said instead of it being twisted.

one more thing there momma, take a good look at my avatar, does that look like a MR to you? LOL (just teasing now) i am a MRS thank you!

yes, i believe in all PEOPLE coming together, i don't give a CRAP about races, skin color & all that. it doesn't matter in God's eyes what color one is he created ALL of us.

what i was saying about the "table" is that over the last 40 years, there have been many many attempts at "reparation" towards the black community in the name of "race relations", etc. MOST of these things (ie: affirmative action, welfare, etc) have only proven to be making the condition of the average black person WORSE, not better.

the only thing that is going to heal this rift is for ALL people, EVERYONE to just get over it. slavery happened, it was a terrible, horrible thing, but it's OVER. discrimination happened, it again, was a terrible horrible thing, but it's OVER.

everyone MUST take responsibility for themselves & their own choices, white & black. stop all the blaming someone for one's own failures & mistakes based on skin color.

dprin339, you didn't answer my question. You were are so busy defending McCain's stance on the war. He flip-flopped but the way you were saying is Obama is the only flipflopper. They all do that, both dems and reps.

I'll ask you again, now copy me like you did my other comments. Here it is:

One last thing, do you believe in all races coming together as one and bigotry and racism a thing of the past or do you want race relations to stay as is?

yes, obama worships, HIMSELF........and you followers are being led down the primrose path.

when you get to the end, he won't be there with you, he will have gone off to chase some other self serving narcissistic plan he has.

the only thing WORTH worshiping is God himself and only God.

Discrimination is not over. I wish it were, but it's not and if you believe that, you are a very naive woman. Women are still discriminated in the work place. One place where I worked a couple of years ago, the director was going over resumes. He came across one with the last name Cho. He threw it in the trash and said, "we don't need any of those people here". I called him on it. I asked him why, you've never met that person. He had no answer. It's not prejudice just against African Americans. If you noticed in my blog, I said ALL races and nationalities need to let go of hate and bigotry.
From my blog, I stated the younger generation are leading us towards freedom of racism and prejudices. They are truly color blind. You never made any comment on that, just about Obama. My blog was saying all of us (all natationalities and races) need to let bigotry and hatred go. You didn't comment on that either. I also said this country coming together as ONE NATION UNDER GOD. Again, no comment. I never mentioned anything about slavery. I never mentioned blacks blaming whites or vice versa. Again, I was stating people have to let go of the pass to move forward. Wow, it seems I must of touched some nerves.

Well, if that's your opinion about Sen. Obama, you have that right to believe it. But, just because I don't agree with does not make me wrong. I have an opinion too. Just as I think McCain is too old to take on the responsibility to run this country, others may say the opposite. Again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And, there are millions of people, whites, spanish, Chinese that believe in him as well. Again, that's their opinion.
I am totally against war. I believe in talking first, if all else fails then war may will be the option.
I believe that all people should be elgible for healthcare, especially those that work 2 jobs to support their families and can't afford to pay the high cost of healthcare. These people should have some kind of help even if it means paying towards their healthcare.
I believe our men and woman of our armed forces should be given free scholarships to college once their tour is complete. We owe our soldiers that.
Now, maybe if I were a republican, my answer for healthcare would be, I got mine, you have to get yours the best way you can. I would say, our soldiers need to serve more than 3 years to qualify for college scholarships. We can't afford to give it to them for just 3 years of service. I would say, those people that lost their homes through subprime mortgages, it's their fault. We shouldn't be responsible for their losses. I have to pay my own mortgage. I'm one of those people who try to lend a hand for those who need it. I am my brother's keeper.

well that's where we differ there momma.

"I believe that all people should be elgible for healthcare," all people are eligible for healthCARE it's health insurance that's the issue here. there are no easy answers here, but the universal single payer system is NOT the answer.

i believe in offering a free education to service people as well, but there has to be SOME sort of standards, otherwise people will sign up for a month & then get 10 years of free education out of it. (just an example). the commitment to military service is long for many reasons......

as far as the mortgages? it IS their fault. THEY signed the contract. the contract spells the whole thing out, every detail. it HAS to! if they didn't read it, tough! if they bought a house they couldn't afford, tough!

everyone falls on hard times in their lives.....and everyone loses things because of it. but not EVERYONE is so blinded by desires that they will sign any piece of paper to get what THEY want regardless of the cost & then stiff the lender. i am NOT interested in helping someone pay a 600,000 mortgage while i am struggling to pay my own.

people have to have a place to live, that's a given. but they don't HAVE to live where they want. there's a difference.

needs vs desires they are two seperate things.

so momma, just how many of other's people's mortgages have you taken on? how many of these people have you given YOUR hard earned money to so that they can save THEIR house from foreclosure?

i'll bet not ONE. YOU aren't your brothers keeper, just like every other liberal loon, you want everyone ELSE to be your brother's keeper. LOL
