Trial Set for Teens Teaching Toddlers to Get High on Video Last Edited: Tuesday, 25 Mar 2008, 1:22 PM CDT Created: Tuesday, 25 Mar 2008, 12:46 PM CDT .

Two teenagers who were seen on videotape apparently teaching and encouraging a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old to smoke marijauna will go to trial in May. Fort Worth police seized the video after carrying out a search warrant at a home in Wautaga in February 2007. The video generated nationwide outrage because it showed the little boy's uncle, Demetris McCoy, 17 and his friend, Vanswan Polty, 18, holding a marijuana-filled cigar in the boys' mouths and lighting it. Police said Polty and McCoy badgered the little boys into getting high. The children appeared to be familiar with smoking and coughed when they inhaled. McCoy and Polty have been in jail since March 2007 on charges of injury to a child as well as burglary charges. After the tape surfaced, Child Protective Services gained custody of the boys. Subsequent blood tests on the children revealed that they also had cocaine in their systems. In a jail house interview on March 22, 2007, McCoy said it's common where he comes from for children to do drugs. "I see it all the time," he said. McCoy also said that he was high when he was encouraging the boys to smoke pot. The boys' mother told police she was asleep in another part of the home and was unaware of what was happening. She relinquished her parental rights in December 2007 and the boys remain in foster care and are ready for adoption. _______________________________________________________

AHHH This is insane!!! These boys should be held in prison and not let out. I am so glad that they decided to be even more idiotic and videotape themselves. I applaude on that, good job at getting those kids AWAY FROM YOU!

The perfect example of why weed is illegal. This is so sickening.  I am so glad that those kids are out of that home and can possibly find a great family to be with that will keep them away from drugs!

Ya'll get crazy about these two "explitive deleteds" because they gave weed to a couple of toddlers, and rightfully so. But what about Uncle Bill who gets a case of beer for his nephews 16th birthday party, and the kid doesn't make it to 17. Alcohol kills SIX TIMES more highschool aged children than ALL the illegal drugs combined. In 5,000yrs of recorded history NO ONE has ever died from a "weed" overdose. These kids need to be taught the error of their ways, but so does uncle Bill, he didn't get the kid stoned, he got him dead. If the police would enforce the laws surrounding sales of alcohol to underaged persons as vigorously as they enforce the drug laws, maybe, just maybe more of our children would be alive. It is becasue "weed" is illegal that those two idiots were able to get their hands on it. The government has no more control over "weed" now, than they had over alcohol when it was illegal.

It's sort of like the story about the boy who kills his parents then begs mercy from the court because he's an orphan.

Ironman, I agree. Alcohol consumption of minors is ridiculous, but as long as it is available... it will be taken. I know many kids that drink but very few that are stupid enough to drink and drive. The dangers are being shown alot more now. I don't know if you ever got to be/see one, but at my school we do a thing called Shattered Dreams and it shows the reality of drinking and driving. I don't approve of drinking anymore than I do of smoking weed. And the kids smoking may not have died by smoking and driving but others have. There have been accidents where people that were high killed others. It is just as dangerous. I agree that the government doesn't have much control over the amount of alcohol or weed sold but the ones that they catch that have either gone over their drinking limit or are high should be put away.

TexasTru, I'm not really sure I understand what you mean, please elaborate.

Thanks for ya'lls opinions!

Mac; I have no problem with RESPONSIBLE, alcohol, or cannabis consumption by adults 21yrs of age or older. I do not drink alcohol at all. I do however consume cannabis. I would NEVER supply alcohol, or cannabis to anyone underaged. The reason there is little or no control of cannabis getting into the hands of minors is because it's illegal. The reason alcohol gets into the hands of minors is because the laws against it do not act as a deterent. They do not act as a deterent because they are not enforced. The police might like this, but the reason 829,000 people were found in violation of the prohibitionist marijuana laws in this country is because it's easy to arrest them. The reason nobody I know of was arrested for supplying underage persons with alcohol is because it's hard, and the "good ol boy" attitude prevails.

I agree with you, terrel. It does smell and the "sleeping in the other room" thing I can tell you right now is extremley BOGUS! I used to have nieghbors that smoked it and I was sick everyday. I thought I was becoming either anerexic because I was sick so much. It smells AWFUL!!!

Hey Mac, do they still have a car brought in from the junk yard that looks like it just got into a wreck and put it on the front yard of the school? They used to do that when I was there and have some one walk around and just randomly pick someone from classrooms to hang out side the car with make up on to make it look like they had just died. It was always surreal when they did this. It was usually held around October or just any time they could do it. But most of the time October. I remember they did it once when we were about to graduate. EVERYONE was in a state of shock because the theater club had done such a wonderful yet scary make up job. The freshman were so stunned and freaked out. Do they still do that?

Nived, We WERE supposed to have one last year... but it ended up not happening. I was apart of SADD for a little while and know this much: 1. It's probably going to be in April becuase this would make it right before prom. 2. I'm pretty sure they still bring in the junkyard cars, but there's going to be more than one and they'll have the fire trucks and ambulances there too. 3. The person who pulls people out of class is the "Grim Reaper" and they are all supposed to be from SADD and last but not least 4. We are set to have one of our SADD people (possibly our future salutatorion) "die" and be taken away by ambulance.

Hopefully this will open even more eyes on the effects of drinking and driving.
P.S. I'm glad you remember yours! It shows that it had a lasting effect! Oh and now it's only for Juniors and Seniors, the freshmen and sophmores will have to wait till they are Juniors and Seniors for another one they put together.

Right on, Ironma (any Ozzy references there)?

Funny, TruBlu.

Mac, I like the idea of the wrecked cars as that is real. However, when one adds the make-believe to it, the impact is diminished. Fairy tales mixed with truth are fairy tales after all.

Well, Nived, I guess you won't be needing that chicken dinner if you never get the munchies. lol

Some of you may think this a bit extreme, but I remember a documentary going around a long time ago, "code Red" was the name of it, I think. It was film of auto accidents with all the blood, and gore intact. Quit candy coating the truth. If you drink and drive, if you drug and drive, if you just drive like an idiot you can end up with a shredded body, blood, guts, and brains spread around for all to see. YOUR blood, guts and brains. If you are lucky enough to survive, you may wish you hadn't.

Any sentence less than 50 years with "no parole" will be insufficient. There was more than one person said that happened all the time in the "HOOD". I actually corresponded with Bill Cosby on this. He was devastated by those idiots actions.

Scotty, a lot has changed from old 'shows' where people where just got pulled out of class and there was one wrecked car. Nothing about Shattered Dreams is a joke or thought to be make believe. It may not be real but it seems real enough to the students.

And I hadn't heard about the code red documentary but I will deffinately look into it. Hopefully we could show it at school (with permission of parents of course..)
