It's been a few weeks since I've been on Fox, mostly because I don't like arguing about my opinon on somethings. i'm all up for telling eveyone what I think, but when people challenge my opinion and try to change it I get extremely offended.

What this blog is about is a topic I am very passionate about, gun control. I was reading another blog and some of it's comments and I was suprised at how many people where for people just carrying around guns and having the right to use them. I don't understand what is going on in the minds of these people. I understand possibly having a gun at you home to protect your family or property, but being able to carry guns on your person is just ridiculous to me. I understand that again they are for protection. But when did the world become so bad that something like mace could not be used to stop an act of violence. When did killing someone become okay? That is what guns do, they are not meant to merely harm someone, they are meant to kill and when people carry them on themselves, they are saying that they are willing to kill another.

I'm against this, and I know i'm going to be under fire (pun intended) for having this kind of opinion so let me hear it.

Do you feel having the right and ability to PROTECT yourself (and others) from criminals is wrong? Cops will not be every where that you are; cops do not run into a bad situation, they wait.
When I have my lawfully owned & carried gun with me, I can protect you or anyone else, too afraid to protect themselves.
If the teachers at those schools had guns, someone could have killed the perp, BEFORE he murdered anyone or anyone else.
Mace, does really stop anyone, especially if they're using. If someone is threatening me or mine, YES I have the right to shoot to kill and yes, I would do that.

You better pray you're never in a situation where you wish you could protect yourself... but have no ability to do so. You'll then rethink your stance against firearms... very quickly.
And yes, I would readily shoot/kill someone trying to kill, rape, etc., me or another. That is the right thing to do. I am not the criminal - he is.

I understand that you feel the need to carry around a gun to protect yourself, I just dont' think I could ever kill anyone. My grandmother carries mace and it has saved her, it is useful, some people just chose to use the more violent choice.

I agree with you, I hope I'm never in a situation where I feel the need to protect myself, but if I ever am, I would want that person to live and suffer (either from guilt or being thrown in jail). I'm pretty sure that I'll never want to murder someone, I can't sink down to their level.

And do you really think that teachers should be able to have guns at school?????? This is absurd. What would happen if a student got ahold of the gun. You think that this would stop a gunman. It would create them!!! That idea is ridiculous and you are saying that you trust the teachers enough to use the guns. Who says that the teachers wouldn't use the guns for the wrong reasons. What makes them so trustworthy. I've had many teachers that blow fuses at students who's to say that the guns wouldn't be used to harm students??

This is just one example of what could have been prevented if people were carrying. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/first100/1001214.ht

ONE EXAMPLE out of HUNDREDS. Lets just hope you are never in one of these circumstances.

If someone would have been legally carrying a weapon the other day in Illinois maybe 6 people would not have died. There have been mall shooting and remember luby's? if someone would have been carrying a weapon then aybe some of those would still be alive. I am all for someone carrying a weapon as long as they do it legally. All gun control does is keep them out of a good citizens hands but the criminals will still have them. They are cheaper on the streets than in a gun store.

You're kidding right? A killer have guilt? Let's not get into how many return offenders prefer prison.

I don't think that that man who shot my sister 8 times and left her lying dead in the street every felt guilty about it.

Actually, she was the second one he killed.

My aunt stood behind her and saw all this happen and she says, had she had a gun, she would have shot back.

I would still gun down the man who did this to my family.

I used to be against guns, UNTIL I BECAME A VICTIM and now understand the need to be able to have one handy.

Hey fellow Cardinal! I back you up. I also know that when I was in the military, they trained me to shoot to kill. I also do not think that people should carry weapons on them, but this world has gotten so blood thirsty that Dracula would carry a peice too! I was trained to kill when needed out in the field. If I had a weapon of my own now, I don't think I could carry it on me because if you do not kill the person raping you and just injur him/her, then they would take you to court for injuries done by you and then YOU get thrown in jail/prison. I would carry, but really, dealing with that for 3 1/2 years, and seeing what I saw, it would be easy for me, but I am not in the field. I am killing a civilian and not a soldier from the enemy. It would eat at my concience and would probably even drive me so stir crazy that I just would not be able to live with myself. Imagine those people who can do it and then go out to dinner like nothing ever happend. I can't live like that. However I do agree with your words and feelings. And MAC, everyone will have their own opinion and try to knock yours down and disagree with you and make you feel bad. Don't listen to them and keep in mind that you have your own opinion and that's all that counts. Stand up for what you believe in chick, that's the only was to fight off losers that do that to you.

When I was in the military, my C.O. (commanding officer) asked me an emotionally deep question. He said, "If Osama Bin Laden was surrounded by women and they were surrounded by children, what would you do? Would you either shoot and kill all of them to get to him, or would you just leave it alone because you don't want to hurt the women and children?"...... You type me back with what you think I said in return and I will tell you if my response was right or wrong... I hope to hear back from you soon... -SGT. HALEY

I certainly appreciate and understand your feelings concerning gun control. You have every right to feel as you do. However, as for me, please don't hinder my right to feel as strongly as you for the need to carry and be in a position to protect myself - should the need arise. I've carried for over thirty years -- yes, much longer than legal -- and I've never had the need to use. That luck could run out any day.

A criminal is less likely to hold up a store if 80% of the residents are packing!

nived, aren't the people raping and murdering just as bad as the terrorist in another country? They don't give a dang if they kill someone or not. I'd lose sleep for a bit if i had to shoot someone to save anothers life but i think i'd be alright. I just know that if i see someone about to be killed by a thug then i'd be able to shoot and kill that thug...probably even have dinner that night.

My comment is not to debate the idea of carrying a handgun but the reasons I am for it.
With that being said I strongly support carrying a concealed handgun for protection of yourself and others. The world is going to hayull in a hand basket, every night you hear on the news that someone was murdered or raped and the only way I see putting a stop to the crime over running is to be able to protect yourself legally. If I had to choose between a can of mace or a loaded gun to protect myself..I'll take the gun any time. A concealed handgun carrier has to get a license in order to carry in the first place and anyone with a lick of sense should know to take any number of classes to learn how to handle this gun responsibly.Yea you will always have one loose idiot in any group of people but I would'nt want one stray idiot make the difference in me being able to protect myself when in danger. Also if these thugs have no idea who's carrying....how are they going to pick their targets then?
I may get old and I may get frail but my gun will never let me down.Just my thoughts.

Steve...It doesn't stop the robberies in Dallas. They just keep on robbing, including crashing into stores and stealing ATM machines day after day after day - Even in broad daylight. They take advantage of every opportunity and count on catching people off guard when robbing them. I know for a fact that many people carry guns in the DFW area, but it has not lowered the robbery rate.

I try to avoid situations where I could be attacked, raped, or robbed. Keep my car and home doors locked and never open the door without first knowing who is there. However, I do carry mace at all times and have a stun gun in my home. These weapons are very effective, and give the victim time to get away and call for help. There have been people accidentally shot and killed because someone erroneously thought they were going to commit a crime. This is a crime.

I'm all for being armed at all times. In the Old West people carried guns wherever they went. Granted, that was 100-150 years ago, but the irony is that it is more dangerous today than it was then.

1. I have no intention of attempting to change anyone's mind.

2. Having carried a firearm professionally for nearly 25 years, as well as a variety of weapons in the military for another seven years, I feel qualified and confident in so doing.

3. Anyone who is NOT qualified, or who does NOT feel confident, should never carry. They're a serious problem, looking for a place to happen.

4. I feel the entire question is personal and individual to each and every one of us, and therefor, none of us should be telling the others what to think or do.

5. Most importantly, I feel the second amendment should be recognized for what it says. It guarantees each of us the Constitutional Right to bear arms. Nothing more, nothing less.
