Fox 4---

More than 16,000 prisoners were released early during the last six months of 2007 to ease jail overcrowding.

Between June and the end of December more than 300 new crimes were committed by freed prisoners.

The early release scheme was orginally unveiled by former Justice Secretary Lord Falconer as the prison population hit the 81,000 mark for the first time.

Figures published by the Ministry of Justice show 16,197 prisoners were released altogether.

Of those, 117 who were ordered to return to jail have gone on the run.

Shadow justice secretary Nick Herbert said early release had put the public at risk and failed to reduce over crowding.

"Over 16,000 prisoners, including 3,000 violent offenders, have now been let out of jail early in just six months because this Government has refused to build adequate prison capacity.

"This policy has now created more than 300 unnecessary victims of crime.

"They should have been protected by the criminal justice system but have been let down by Labour's incompetence.

"This early release scheme must be scrapped immediately and sufficient prison places provided so that public safety comes first."

----------------------------------------------------
--------------------

Okay WHAT?!?!?! This is the stupidest idea ever. Letting criminals out because the jails are overcrowded? When did problems with jails ever come up? Who cares if they are cramped or.. oh they have to share a room. Stuff them in there is what I say. You commit a crime, you go to jail, you do not get out of jail until you are released on your own date or you die. period.

The 300 victims can all be blamed on our system of government and their stupid logic. And is this enough to stop them? Of course not!! They keep filtering them out all over the U.S.  and we say that illegal immigrants are our main source of crime HAH. That's bull. It's our government releasing the dangerous people that they put away BACK in our neighborhoods. And whats better, is that when they realize this was a mistake, they can't find them or catch them to bring them back in.

Let me hear it.

300 new crimes out of 16,000 is not a huge amount. means 15,700 deserved to be let out and they are trying to stay crime free. our system mandates that even small crimes are punishible by jail. so i say...yeaaaa to the ones that got out and commited no more crimes, it frees up space for more ppl who murder, rape, rob..etc. there are ppl in jail for having 1 joint..ridiculous

I understand that, and now usually if people are caught with narcotics or other small things like that, they don't even go to jail. From the sounds of the news stuff about all of this, the people that are being let go are dangerous ones. Just because these 15,000 didn't do anything right after they got out doesn't mean that they won't some other time and that time it could escalate into something bigger.

They should just build bigger jails and say tough to the ones that are crowded. Since when did criminals get special treatment?

terrellmom read my blog view my photos

they don't get special treatment. ever know anyone thats been there? if so then ask them how special they were treated. and just because your neighbor hasn't done anything wrong doesn't mean he wont...so ya can't really say that because those 15000 havent done wrong again YET that it's a matter of time. give ppl a little bit of credit. some ppl actually learn from their mistakes.

I know many people learn from their mistakes, and yes I have known someone that has been in jail before. My point is that what if one of those 15,000 had attacked your daughter or friend, you would be extremely upset and things would be different. I don't think that any crimianls should just be realeased because the jails are crowded. They got slapped with a jail sentence and they should serve it out.

T-E-N-T-S

I have writen many state legislators and once in a while they write me back but never do they say they will approach this idea.

There is no such thing as "overcrowding"

Some politicans have there base in keeping people in fear as its more likely to insure them, in their minds, constant job security.

THERE IS NO REASON THAT TENTS cannot be used like they are out in Arizona.

Crime is paying more and more.

Mac,

Do you believe what you wrote? "" I understand that, and now usually if people are caught with narcotics or other small things like that, they don't even go to jail""

Not even close to the truth!:( Last year the number one arrest in this country was for drugs, almost 900,000! Over 650,000 were for POT! 82% of those were for SIMPLE POSESTION! At the same time the rate for unsolved Murders, Rape, Assaults and other serious crimes "" CLIMBED ""! Right here in the Great State of Texas, we passed a LAW that went in to effect Sept. 1st. Where as a person caught with 4 ounces or less could be written a ticket instead of being arrested! Your supposed Public Servants in Dallas and Tarrant counties, and IN YOURS as well as MANY others are REFUSING TO USE THIS NEW LAW!! Which would you rather have living beside you, a non-violent drug user or a child molester??? The system is so overloaded with non-violent drug users, there is no room!

In the past you have shown to be honest, please educate yourself with the truth before making UNSUPPORTABLE ASSUMPTIONS! If you will go to www.leap.cc at the bottom of the home page there are DOCUMENTED links to the truth, please use them in the future!

Mac,

Having worked in maximum security prison from 73 to 78, much of it on death row. I can honestly say, you have NO IDEA what it is really like in these hell holes! How would you like to be a non-violent drug users, who simply made choices while harming no others, but were thrown in with these animals! And trust me there are some REAL ANIMALS IN THERE!

Could you live with being raped and given AIDS, or getting a life sentence for killing another to keep from being raped? Could live with hearing their screams in the dark knowing you couldn't stop it! And all simple because some people didn't like your personal and private choices, while you harmed NO ONE??? Your grant money for education can be stripped FOR LIFE, simply for pot, FACT!

We the " SUPPOSED " freest country on earth only have 5% of the worlds population living in our country, " YET " we have "" 25% "" of the world population that is doing time, DOING IT RIGHT HERE!!! How can we claim to be the freest, and have more locked up than any other country??? Sadly one is a LIE, and numbers don't LIE! Is there any wonder why these people come out seeking revenge?

Please educate yourself with the facts and truth!

Rusty, first off, what I meant when I was talking about the people that got caught with the drugs were the ones with the little amount. And honestly to both posts, yes I would still like to see that 'harmless' criminal in jail. I'm sorry but how long do you think they are going to be harmless? Pot and other drugs that are 'harmless' are just gateway drugs that can lead to others and can mess with minds and finally end up harming others. There is no such thing as a 'harmless' criminal. I don't believe that the drug criminals should be in the 'hell hole' for as long as the rapists and such (I firmly believe in the death penalty for murderers... and not the ones in self defense as you described when you said that someone would end up in jail for keeping your self safe). I just believe that if you commit a crime, you should be punished. period. I also somewhat agree with UCANT, because really, there are other ways of containing criminals instead of letting them free and ready to committ more crimes.

I understand having worked in a jail you know more of what it was like than me because yes I am still a teenager. I just know that I don't want someone back on the street that hasn't learned their lesson or done their time for their crimes. NO ONE should be let out until they have served their time.

Mac,
I can tell you didn't use the links, it is a PROVEN DISTORTION as to pot being the gateway drug, FACT! Due to your age I understand where your coming from, unfortunately your position can not be supported with Facts nor the realities we live with and in. Sadly there are many in our country who have been WRONGFULLY labeled criminal. Million upon Million never go beyond pot, fact!

If you believe you have the right to control others bodies, do they have the same rights to do the same to you? In a country founded upon Individual Freedoms and freedoms of beliefs, who has the right to dictate to others how they should live, as long as they harm no others! To assume because they make personal and private choice you have BEEN CONDITION against, is not factual as to them harming themselves or others, if so PROVE IT!

You see no problem with the supposed freest country on earth having more people in prison than communist countries??

Once again I ask you to seek the truth and educate yourself with it. The links at www.leap.cc are DOCUMENTED and much of it is your own government Documentation for justifying this failure called the war on drugs! Frankly I am a bit surprised, I may have misjudged your willingness and ability to seek the truth. You do KNOW it is not wrong to question authority, don’t you? Sadly it is not I who needs the truth to come forward, my days are shorter than they were longer in this life! It is you and yours that will suffer if the truth is not accepted! Please don’t be afraid, if I am wrong you should have NO PROBLEM PROVING IT, RIGHT? LOL

Mac,

DID YOU KNOW?

Racism

Only 13% of drug users are African American, yet they account for 67% of those sentenced to jail for drug offenses.

Mass Incarceration

The U.S. has 5% of the world's population but 25% of the world's prisoner population.

Lack of Recovery Resources

48% of the need for drug treatment goes unmet in the U.S.

Public Opinion

A Pew poll found that three out of four Americans feel that the Drug War has failed and can never be won.

Waste of Taxpayer Dollars

Even after spending more than $50 billion a year on the Drug War, drugs are more available and drug cartels are more wealthy than ever before.

War on Youth

More than 200,000 students have been denied financial aid simply because they have drug convictions.

Students for Sensible Drug Policy is working to find solutions to these problems. Explore our site to learn about our mission & values, chapter network, campaigns, and events.

Me thinks Rusty may be a pot smoker anybody else get this same feeling? ;)

Here lies the problem why make things so complicated. Fear is the only thing that all humans understand. We can not coddle criminals and expect them to respect the law.

I think we should be more like Singapore, my son lived there for 4 years and they didn't have a crime problem and criminals don't have more rights than the victims either.

I have an idea' lets take all the violent criminals and fly them over Iraq in a cargo plane. Then maybe give them a parachute and drop them off.

This would be a solution for those that like murder and mahem so much, they can join all the other psycho's in the Middle East.

Yeah, thats the ticket.

Why not come on here and act like an adult, support your beliefs with facts, I DO ?

Sorry Rusty, but honestly, I don't feel like these websites changed anything about my opinion. Maybe thats why you ASSUMED I did not visit them. I still hold my same beliefs.

I can't believe that government officials would want to legalize certain drugs just to save money or keep the users out of jail. To me this is absolutely insane. People that do drugs are disgraceful. We should be trying to help them stop and continue fighting the war on drugs, and not give up and give in to addictions and diseases. This is just offering more people drugs and saying, hey it's okay. I truly do not understand why anyone would be for this. You are saying that it is okay for people to do drugs, deal drugs, and that they shouldn't be punished for that? What next, oh there are so many child molesters in jail, lets let them go and say that it's okay if they violate a 10 year old because who else is it hurting the kids can get therapy.

And questioning authority? What do you think I am honestly doing in these blogs? Do you not understand that this is exactly what I am doing. I know the truth that I have decided to believe. Your 'facts' and such did not in any way change my opinion. Criminals, including those who do drugs or deal them, should be reprimanded.

Mac,

Sorry, but it is your responses that lead me to believe you didn't visit these site. Or you wouldn't be attempting to stand on un-factual ground.

Care to show where I have " EVER " said it is ok to do or sell drugs?? Care to show where I have " EVER " said I want more people to do drugs? It is quite clear either my skills are so lacking or you can't see the truth, or sadly you have been so conditioned you can't accept reality.

Your government doesn't want to change policy, nor give up the power and control that comes from this CASH COW! People who do drugs are disgusting, REALLY? So that is what you think of President Bush, President Clinton, Queen Elizabeth, etc... What you find as disgusting can only be contributed to your mind conditioning from years of lies, manipulation and a self serving agenda of others, sorry. You even go so far as to compare those who harm no one, to those who prey on children, another example of taught fear mongering, WHY???

What you find disgusting, that being FREE PEOPLE demanding control over their own bodies, do you believe the government owns your body? Those people simply making choice YOU were conditioned not to hate and fear, are in fact People making personal and private choice while harming no others which is in fact is called INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM what this country was founded upon!

A vote to Regulate and Legalize drugs "" IS NOT "" a vote for or against any drug! It is " NOT " to solve our drug abuse problems!

This longest war in our history, is a failure NOT because I say it is, BUT BY IT'S OWN RECORD OF FAILURE

RustyWhite read my blog

This longest war in our history, is a failure NOT because I say it is, BUT BY IT'S OWN RECORD OF FAILURES!

I'll have to disagree with your claim to be questioning authority. Your truth is sadly years of manipulation. Sadly you proved it by comparing those who harm no others and simply make choices YOU have been conditioned to hate and fear and to label others disgusting and the same kind of people as child molesters, for the simple supposed crime, of making choice you have been conditioned to fear, there is no FACTUAL TRUTH in that statement, AT ALL!

My FACTS, again shows you didn't see the truth, Document evidence from all over the world are not mine, there just the truth to use as a tool to end this madness. Strange how the very facts your government uses to continue this misery, are wrong when used to bring the truth out? I spent much of my life making sure REAL CRIMINALS were held accountable and did there time. Sadly today anybody can be labeled as a criminal for simply living their lives while harming no others in a supposed FREE COUNTRY, simply because others are taught UNAMERICAN BLEIEFS AND VALUES.

Wish you the best in the future, one day I hope you realize, those you believe to be disgusting simply because they make choice you have been condition to hate and fear! Are really Americans with the same right to life as you do, and are some ones Mother, Father or son or daughter! Not the demons and second class American you have been conditioned to believe. LOL

Mac,

I know you don't believe me, and I understand why. But even though we are in disagreement, I would like to ask you to do me a favor. Do you have a scrap book? If so I would like to ask you to copy our conversation on this post, put them in your scrap book.

One day in the distant future when your fighting for the the Freedoms and Liberty and Individual Freedom lost today. While trying to save your kids future and Freedoms, these words might have more value and TOTALLY DIFFERENT MEANING!

I would once again like to thank you for honestly sharing your beliefs. But “ PLEASE “ understand, the truth and realities of today are not yours nor mine to make up. They are the guiding lights to the future of us all, and for the sake of our country and all of us , we MUST use them to find the right path!

There Has To Be A Better Way!:)

Rusty, you are so egotistical. When did you ever say drugs were okay? umm lets see in every post you've put on here. I went to your website and the first thing I saw said lets legalize drugs, lets pass a law so the drugies don't get in trouble. When you say that the people that do drugs are 'making choices' and that I am 'manipulated' into my own beliefs I can hardly stand it. I have my own beliefs because they are my own, I was NOT manipulated in ANY way. And drug users making their own choices? haha, yeah, they are CHOOSING to sell drugs to others and harm their bodies and possibly others.

You aren't going to change my views, stop posting things thinking that you are. I am not going to make a scrapbook of our posts just because you think someday I'll have this all changing experience with our 'longest war'.

And the people that do drugs, hm, I d idn't know the President and the Queen of England smoked weed, what a great example. I wasn't talking about prescription drugs, people that smoke weed CAN AND WILL harm other people. Just because some people don't doesn't mean others won't.

I'm done with this conversation.

Mac,

Sadly I have missed judged you.:( I thought you could honestly carry a conversation. Your first two sentences had no truth in them at all.

Like I said educate yourself, our Presidents have used drugs, and it is a DOCUMENT fact the Queen used pot for menstrual cramps!

You are correct your done, sadly you have shown everybody on here what manipulation and mind conditioning can do to our young. To the point of claiming those who use a gift from the " ALMIGHTY " makes people the same as child molesters. Sadly your positions can not be supported with truth and facts.

Now how many want to accept the MILLIONS our government wants to give our schools to force and manipulate our young in to being subjugated and so full of taught fear, they will not even accept truth and facts.

Wish you the best in the future MAC, and again your mistaken. Life will change your perceptions as you go though it.
LOL
