There is a subject, that I would really like to touch base on.

This subject, is "Illegal Handicap Parking".

What does this mean?

Who does this refer to?

Who should abide by the rules of "handicap parkings"?

Well, tell me if this person was right or wrong.

This afternoon, when I took my sister to the post office, I parked next to the handicap parkings.

As I waited, the car for my sister to come out, the car that was int he handicap parking next to me pulled out and a white car jetted right in.  And quick!

Well, as fast as this car pulled in, I knew it was going to be someone that was not handicap because there were no handicap license plates or tags.

Sure enough, a very nice, young, tall, well built, FIREMAN gets out of the car and locks it.

Yup!!  He was even wearing his Firefighters of Dallas uniform.

Needless to say, I was appauled.

How many times do we have to see people that should not be parking in these parkings get out of their cars while the people need them have to park far away or drive around til they find a open handicap parking.

Okay....I know....LOTS of people do this....but, to see a fireman or policeman or anyone that should know better doing this is really just not right.

What is your opinion on this?

Was I wrong to be upset and just stare at him when he came out almost 20 minutes later.  Or, is it okay because he was a fireman?

It was WRONG. If he had no handicapped plates or placard he was breaking the law, even a fireman.

YUP!!! No handicap plates or placecard.

Very young, HEALTHY fireman.

I was very tempted to report him. I am more that sure that he works at the firehouse right around the corner from the post office.

I have a placard..........it is for when I take my father in law for his doctors appts......

never used it for my own benefit......never even been tempted to really.......I never park up front no matter where I go..........always in the back or near the back.......yes even if its cold or raining........

you see this alot.......go to a mall during holiday season......you will see every single handicapped spot taken... throughout the whole mall...........yeah right.....

someone either borrowed grand ma's placard....or just parked there out of selfishness..........makes me mad......but I never say anything........

He was in the wrong.

What upsets me is healthy people who park in the fire lane and run into the store. Parking there is even closer than the handicap parking. These people are just too lazy to walk a few extra feet. I have seen cars idling with kids (older) in them while the driver runs in.

Thats when you need a camera take a picture and send it to Fox4 and see if they will report it...and then take it to his supervisor at the fire station...but as soon as you left they would probably have a good laugh over it....

I would have called the police right then, but I would not have told them that he was a fireman. That is a minimum $250.00 ticket. let him work it out.

I have seen the police at Town East Mall check some place cards before. They asked all the right questions of the people driving the vehicles and made sure that the handicap person was in the car.

It pissed the crap out of me as well, to see all these healthy people with them as well. Or the ones that have one "because they take grandma or mom or someone who is handicap to the store once in awhile"

I wanted to take a pic of him and the car but, my phone does not have camera....I know I know...move up in the world and times....

But, I did get his license number.

I am contemplating on finding out who he is and which fire department he works for.

But, I wanted input from "the peoples voice".

My step dad is a "wheelie cat" - parapalegic.

I get out and lean on their driver side doors when I see it. I make a statement as I am very large. People get the message but it infuriates me.

I see this too many times at Walmart or at the mall.

It's usually people with a tag they stole from someone and use it so they won't have to park so far to keep from walking.

Lots of time it's young healthy looking people that are just plain lazy and don't want to walk!! I predict they will be unhealthy in the future years, judging by their laziness.

Sometimes I want to say something just to try to offend them to release some of the anger I get when I see the lazy butts. There are people that are really handicapped that could use those parking spots.

okay....we know that alot of "regular" people who know, as well, that they should not be parking there do it.

But, I want to hear more of your thoughts on seeing a policeman or fireman or anyone that works for the law and should abide by it first before any of us.

It really bothers me when people park illegally in handicapped parking spaces. I have seen many people do it. If I could walk in from the back forty when I was nearly full term with two toddlers in tow, then some of these relatively healthy looking people can do it too! What made me really mad was the guy last year who was caught creating fake handicapped plates. He made a bundle selling them to lazy people.

There is no excuse for an able-bodied person to park in a handicapped spot unless they are a caregiver & the handicapped person is with them. What makes a firefighter or police officer more special than everyone else who must abide by that law? Even if it wasn't the law, it's only courteous & considerate to keep the handicapped spots available for those who need them.

My thoughts on firefighters and policemen doing that aren't any different than my thoughts about others doing it.

They break the law just like ordinary citizens. You see them on the news getting caught driving drunk, beating up their wifes in some cases killing their wife. They gamble and are crooked just like everyone else.

But, then again, some may think that a uniform gives them right that civilians don't have. Maybe?

Me think you thinks correctly, Packer.

It is true, though, that if I was to have called the police or even reported it to the post office, they probably would have just swept it under the rug.

Probably would have made a total ass of myself...well, in their opinion.

I think you're right.

A few years ago, I parked in a handicapp space while my wife ran in and grabbed a gallon of milk at a kroger. Within seconds of my wife getting off a cop blocked me and asked who what disabled. I replied that no on was and he threatened to give me a $200 citation.

I begged him not too. Well, he didn't but that was the only and last time I ever did that. Even if I'm only getting off for a second I'll park far away. Not only to walk more but to keep others from hitting my vehicles with their car doors.

I am handicapped. I have MS. It really bothers me when I see a person who can just walk right out of his or her cars. I have to use a cane and make it slow. Anyone who will park in a Handicapped spot such be fined!!
