This subject came up to me before as I read posts calling people racists for reasons that have no scientific merit. It ended for a while, but seems to have flared. SO, PLEASE don't make me go into why pulling the race card for culture(hispanic) or class(college student) is such a waste of time. To save me some energy, and more typing than word limits provide, search this complete string of words: "Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species". You have but a choice of 3 races. Read, learn, get over it. The rest is all regional culture and is as varied as East coast language to West coast language. Northern slang and beliefs to Southern slang and beliefs.

Call AMERICAN people culturally biased because they are PROUD AMERICAN's who think-and KNOW English is the language of OUR COUNTRY, call AMERICAN people culturally biased because AMERICANS and THEIR country are being invaded everyday, call AMERICAN people culturally biased because WE want the invasion to stop, but don't dare call people racist for the same reasons. It doesn't hold up in an intelligent, qualified conversation. It's all in the science.

I am a PROUD AMERICAN who defends the CULTURE of THIS country. Love it or LEAVE IT.

The word Racism hasn't anything to do with Race bias anymore. Not since the days of Phil Donahue when it was SIMPLY used, for the most part successfully, as an means to intimidate those who point out a TRUTH that cannot be denied otherwise.
It is NOT an argument at all but a method to attack the messenger to quell the message.
Personally, it NEVER worked with me.
You see, I NEVER LIKED DONAHUE...

Great Post D........

Yes, excellent post, Lucky! I'm fed up with the whole "culture" issue, too. It seems difficult for SOME people to realize, and to understand that those of us who were born and BRED in the USA take offense to those who do not respect our country the way we do! LOVE HER OR LEAVE HER is exactly how I feel, and speaking English is part of that love for this country. I was at "Outdoor World" (Bass Pro Shop) on Sunday, and I was APPALLED that the "checkout" sign was in more than one language! If you're too illiterate to read "checkout" in English, then you really don't need to be patronizing an "All American" store like that one, or any other, in this country for that matter!

Racism is really a word with no real meaning since there is no such this as race in the true sense. There is only one skin color, melanin. The shade of the skin just depends on how much melanin you have. Other "racial" characteristics are only the result of limiting the gene pool as people groups became more separated. As the world "shrinks" and more "races" intermarry, we will eventually return to the original "race" which is a mixture of them all. When you look at the DNA markers affecting race, there are more genetic differences between identical twins than there are between the various "races." That's why transplants can be interracial.

So a more accurate term would be "people groups." The things that separate the races today are really more cultural than genetic. But, since people associate these cultural differences with certain physical traits they will put each people group into the same box and just assume they're all the same. Humans aren't too bright, are they?

Thanks for picking up some of the slack LD I get so flustered I can't speak eloquently , despite the fact that I have a real point! I say something in defense of my culture and BAM the “race card “ is played. Unfortunately Racism is now used as nothing more than a defense against what is more often than not valid criticism. And promoting one culture above ALL others is in fact racism in action.
I am sick to death of the abuse of this once good and useful word! When Black men where being hung, and black woman where being raped just because of the color of there skin, we as a unified Nation acted to end true racism................now every 2 seconds I here “you can't pick on me because I am black/brown/fat/short/old/young/..whatever” so I am able to do whatever I want (like a three year old run amok) and you can't do or say anything about it because you are just a racist !

People who use Racism at the drop of the hat to attack others rather then to make a valid point are themselves the TRUE racist.
They claim to see racism in everything but what they really are seeing is the RACE of the person they're assaulting with the term..
If there IS a TRUE definition of Racism, What better one can there be then THAT..

Racism is another one of those words that has been so overused and missused that it has absolutely no meaning any more.

No problem Burn, the science nerd in me had something to say. Thanks to all of you who responded so far(Hawkeye, Deborah, Burnstorm, rexsmom, jfore, even you cowluvr), you folks are most of the ones who I figured would 'get' my message. I feel there are some more 'responses' coming to try to use racist where it doesn't belong, but they are stumped with the first 10 results of their internet search.

Execellent Post Lucky D ! It is usually the most Narrow minded that play the race card. And it seems that the younger generation get the ideas from their parents , Grandparents, or the media. In any form it just ain't right.

Yeah, I do think that there's something to it.

Like whole cultures who're brought up to call people racist when they don't get their way, hear something they don't like or just plain needs an excuse for their lot in life..

Don't NEED to make a note of it, beem hearing it ALL of MY life.....and NOT just directed at me either. The people who I've heard use the term use it for everybody and everything....

No JG , watch who is using that “word” and why for a bit, there self motivation will show........I don't march into Mexico or France and demand “My Rights” I never complained that Italy did not make an effort to serve me in “MY” language, I never illegally crossed the border into East Berlin and tried to express 'outrage” that they did not like being invaded.........I guess I am saying that when in “Roam” , when you are in some one else's house (especially when not invited) you should behave.
