I started working in Earth City in January 1999. Since that time my allergies have gone haywire and my sinuses - I won't even go there! My eyes start to water when I get about a mile onto the Earth City Expessway. I've noticed that there are a lot of other issues as well. In my company alone there are a significant number of employees with sinus issues, heart issues, cancer, etc. I realize that any company of any size will have a certain percentage of illnesses - this just seems excessive. This whole area exists between two large land fills and is literally built on another, I'm starting to think this might be a problem. I know "they" say it's safe but I'm starting to wonder how different their version of safe and mine are. Has anyone else noticed the differences in health issues in and around this area? Yours or others around you? Has there been any kind of study done on the health of people working here?

My sister-in-law works in EC, had cancer, but it also runs in her family. So not sure that her diagnosis would really hold up any muster.

Mold from all of the swampland that is now Earth City. The Westlake Quarry/Laidlaw-Allied Waste landfill is closed due to radioactive material dumped there years ago I look for it to be another Weldon Spring maybe on a smaller scale.
Fred Weber on the other side of 70 is pretty much a clean fill and it's by the book.
I had a cousin who worked at Westlake for years and he died young. I hauled into the landfill years ago contaminated material like asbestos, special waste, but nothing "glow in the dark". I also hauled some stuff out of Malinkrodt yrs ago too some went to the old BFI landfill off of Fee Fee rd. and the rest went to Westlake St.Chas. Rk.rd.
You'd have to be in close contact with the material to really have any kind of exposure to the ill effects of it but I'm not saying it's not in the air. Working in that area it could be possible some of the contaminants might be in the groundwater and could be rising to the atmosphere via pilings, footings, storms sewers, etc. I'm no expert by no means just a possibilty.

Married, mother of 3. I work part time while my kids are in school so I can be there to get them on and off the bus. I haven't always been able to do this and they spent a few years in after school care so these last 2 years have been nice.
