Fastfood is soo yummy especially since you don't have to cook.

They are now making fastfood "healthy" because of the health issues but are they controling the food in schools as well as they are controling the fastfood restaurants?

It has been some time since ny kids were in school but i remember going to m daughters school on one of those suprise visits to see how well the feed our kids and the food was stale and gross.

After that day i would either brting my daughter fastfood or make her a good lunch to take.

The "CHEF" at the school got upset because supposively i was making him/her look bad and i was giving the cafeteria competition by bringing fastfood (which tasted better and was not stale and most likely was healthier )

These schools are feeding our kids CRAP and people in the jails who have commited crimes are eating better than our kids.

What is wrong with this picture???

Every school needs to have the people who control these things get in there and do some very serious investigating and if the problem is not fixed than the one who did the investigating should be ousted and investigated his/herself.

And they act like they are so concerned about our shildren and DIABETES and OBESITY.
I bet that these controllers of the fastfood and school food eat very well on a daily basis.

Don't they know that there are many children out there who eat this food because these are the only meals they get. Their parents are trying their hardest but sometimes it is hard to put food on the table.

where do you start and exactly who do you talk to to get some results ???

Yes, I can still remember the smell from the cafeteria back when I was in elementary schol. We would have a balanced meal at least. I can also remember when my boys were in school and the hot dogs and burritos and other crap that they threw together for them. Not vegetables and things that would be good for them. The really sad part is the program for the meals was put into place because for some kids this was the best meal they got. Then they wonder why there is an obesity problem.

Yo, yo, tryin to eat my CPK salad here! For 55 cents I had a hot lunch and for 15 cents I could get chocolate milk & cinnamon toast B4 school. Wow. Once I got to Jr. High there was spice cake!!! I am so grateful that my kid eats better than I did. He should realize how lucky he is....

I agree with the person who posted this blog, I think our kids should have better meal, but don't worry buddy, ever since "Terminator" became the Governor, the cons only eat a bowl of cereal, a a small box of milk (8 oz.), and a half of fruit for breakfast; A sliced of balony or balogna, two sliced of bread, a small box of milk (8 oz.), 1 ketchup or 1 mustard, and a pinch of lettuce and 1 pack of salt for dressing for lunch; 1 hotdog, 1 bun, a half to 3/4 cup of artificial cool aid made out trash can container, 1 ketchup or 1 mustard, and a little of beans for dinner. breakfast and lunch never changes all year long every year, Dinner is sometimes changed to tuna helper...But still thats my tax money feeding them inmates, though I think all inmates should be put to work...

We had balanced meals in elementary, then by the time I got into junior high (middle school to some of you) I could get rice and gravy for 15 cents which is what I used to get due to the fact that I got .50 cents a day for lunch. In high school I got 50 cents also but I just never ate, we used to hang out on the field at lunch and chill, and smoke. I just saved my money for other things. Yes people 50 cents actually used to be worth something, but then minimum wage was about $1.65 an hour.

For Xmas I went and spent a week in Idaho with my best friend. Her daughter is 9. So a few times a week she meets her in the lunch room and they eat together. They actually had a condiment counter. salad bar and the kids took turns wearing aprons, gloves, and yes the hair nets. Why is is that in Calif. casup or mustard are counted as a food group?

Ketchup might be the only vegetable a kid gets in a day. I remember pizza day on Friday, and it sucked but it was the highlight of the week in Elem. High School, they sold soda if we had time, had our smoke (all kinds were acceptable), BS'd and then the bell rang. There was an apple/fruit machine in Jr. High, but it always got vandalized and if you were caught using it you got your [...] kicked "fight everyone come see... run, who is it??" I don't think I ever ate at the cafeteria in HS once, but we had an open campus, so if you had a car (or even hitched in those days) and had enough for Pup & Taco, it was a good day.

I remember when my kids had pizza day. I never ate when I was in high school either. I graduated in 72, just before the big "drug war" started. Lucky for me. That was in the days when the drugs were generally really what they said they were and not some concoction someone made out of paint thinners an such. I know people had drug problems then, but since the big "drug war" it seems the crack and meth and some of the other things that have materialized out of peoples desperation have created an addiction explosion.

Oops, sorry, back to the lunch debate. Why dont they grow their own? Most schools used to have an agriculture class back in the day, why cant they bring that back and grow vegetables? they are rather easy to grow, it gives a sense of accomplishment and it would be healthier for the kids. Its just a thought.

Yes, I say grow your own, but that's another topic (need to find that blog...med mj). There is no land to have a class like that, maybe a 5x5 in kindergarten. Sad, my son went through home lunches only, then only school lunches and then just pocketing the $2.50 and coming home starving. Can't blame them.

I used to grow my own..........ahem vegetables. I even grew our pumpkins for halloween. String beans have beautiful flowers, so does med mj. Tomatoes, bell peppers radishes all grow easily I never tried lettuce, zuccini are the bomb, two plants should more than take care of a family of four and friends. You can almost watch them grow.
Then between water shortages, helicopters and nosey neighbors I eventually just stopped gardening. Now I have to buy my veggies just like everyone else.

I have spoke to you thornyone more than anyone today, even face to face! Heat is creating that aroma here in O.C. I have never been to jail (so far) but I know what Paris ate and it is probably better quality than grilled oil cheese sandwiches. If the quality was better in schools, maybe kids would eat and not have food fights (my son's principal had us on speed dial).

first of all the people in jail have money on their books ,but they are not eating better the only things you can order off the store (by the way is owned by lee baccas daughter)..is crap, they charge 1 dollar for a top ramon..most of the food is all carbs to keep the inmates sedate .protein is a luxury..a pouch of tuna is 3 bucks ..you really don't know what your talking about ..you want to blame the schools for your own neglect..how bout giving your kids proper meals at home here's an idea make him or her a lunch..so they don't have to eat the garbage they serve ..you have a choice the inmates don't..and besides when you have a lot of time on your hand inside you work out..you don't get fat..no matter what you eat

Wow, bad day today crafty? Fortunately, I don't have first hand experience in jail (so far), we were talking about the food schools do serve and served when we were kids as that may have been the only decent meal we got that day and many parents can't afford to pack healthy lunches. Making a nice lunch is always the best way to go, but kids will do what their peers are doing. Maybe you can provide some solutions and help the food program in our schools, as you have experience. How can they learn to grow their own vegetables & fruit when there is no room or budget for horticulture in public schools. Unfortunately, it has been an issue that wasn't a priority before and is sadly not at the top. Sports and the arts are being cut all over. Yes, good habits obviously start at home. But many kids are latchkey and would be happy to have a top raman. I was very involved in my son's schools, too bad most parents aren't. If the people on this blog weren't concerned, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Not all people in jail and prison have money on thier book. Well, depend on the inmate wether someone is sending that person some money or not. In county an inmate could get a job and get pay .75 cents a day, in prison an inmate could make up to $3.00 a day working on Firecamp.

I agree with thoryone suggestion about teaching young kids to grow vegetable, though it sad it seems like that's never going to happen this day, cause we live in the world of high technology.

Dude. We are talking about the "some kids" not ncessarilly ours. I was fortunate enough to be able to stay home, drive my kids to the schools I wanted them to go to. Use other peoples addresses to get my kids in to better area's. Volunteer in classrooms, computor labs, libraries and afterschool playgrownd.
My sons both had lunch boxes with thermose's but whe they got to a certain grade it wasnt col and most were buying lunch or carrying a brown bag lunch.
In order to be able to stay home I had to hustle a bit and be creative on my end to help him by not spendind as much, so I would wash draperies that people were casting off tear them apart cut them down to cut out a stain or faded place and make curtains for the windows, and back then there were a few driveins left so I would pop up about a bucket of pop corn, buy some soda from the 99 cent store, fill an ice chest with ice I made out of empty ice cream containers and for the price for two adults we could go to the movies with 4 kids and 2 adults. You have to be creative and frugal or you can have everything going, buy whatever you want but you both have to work, your kids come home to an empty house or to some baby sitter that you hope you can trust, Never be able to help at school, go on fieldtrips with the class and have time to spend having conversations with your kids. So the only way they are shown love is with what you buy them and not with what time you spend with them. creak.....this is me getting off my soapbox.... I just gave my kids what I always wanted and never got. more time with my mom.

Thorney, what a great mom you are! Crafty is a single parent in entertainment craft services according to his bio and probably a great father from what I know. I think a great opportunity has opened up for some real solutions here. It starts with your own community and hope it catches on to the district. There are always openings in the PTA and other areas in your kids school. A little volenteer work from every other parent can make a difference, it's worth it for our kids. Ya can't complain if you don't step up.

fact we are never gonna have good food in our schools because it cost tooo much..while the lausd fat cats get richer our children suffer while they get raises the kids get after school programs cut so the only exercise they get is when a fight breaks out at school..til they go home and lock them selves in and play video games .....hey your right it sounds just like prison...here's one solution stop illegal immigration its sucking the life out of this state in every way.

i agree illegal immagration only seems to help the people like our governors and senators they get more votes and support fromthe illegals because they are appreciative that they are aloud to live here without having to pay for their stay.
so they will support the BIG WIGS because it is our tax money supporting them.
