Why do bicyclists act like they own the road? Have you ever successfully passed a bike rider ( by having to veer into oncoming traffic ) only to find yourself at a stoplight watching that same rider go through the red light just so you have to pass them again?

Yesterday, on my way home from work, I actually had a cyclist riding her bike in the middle of a lane going less than five miles an hour. I honked my horn and she motioned for me to go around her! Not only is it virtually impossible on Broadway during rush hour but, I was going to make a left turn at the next light. The light was red and while waiting for it to change, she pulled up next to me and said she had every right to ride her bike in the lane. I told her she didn't have a right to block traffic. She told me to go back to driving school and I told her to go back to bicycle school as I drove off, flipping her the bird!

Who was in the right? Do we now have to drive two miles an hour because they want to take over the roads? Should we treat them as other drivers? If so, how can they run red lights on a regular basis? I don't get it!?!?!?!?!

Well, she does have the right to use the lane, and is actually required by law to do so in the city of Denver, where there isn't a bike path.

But that's where my support of her position ends. I used to bike to work downtown, and I used the lanes, but I kept up w/traffic. It was also stupid for her to confront you- she obviously is "making a statement", and it could get her killed some day.

Many cyclists are very arrogant. They think the responsibilities of the road are for cars, and the priveleges are for them. I had a guy buzz a stop sign, where I was lawfully proceeding, then when I honked, he rode up and slammed his fist into the car, denting it. If I hadn't had my son with me, I would have followed him and gotten some way to report him. I see this kind of stuff all the time, I agree. Here I go, I'll probably hear about this, but in my opinion, it's kind of a liberal attitude- my way or the highway, by people who think the rules only apply to the evil polluters!

You are in the right!!! These idiots who ride the street are the biggest jerk offs I know. They have no clue what share the road means. When I take the motorcycle up deer creek canyon for a weekend ride those idoits are riding 3 abreast while passing signs that say (ride single file) I ride has close has I can to them...in fact I try to tag them with my shoulder....I know it's wrong but I thinks it's funny has hell.

I'll be your huckleberry ;)

Her's what the law says:

(5) Any person riding a bicycle shall ride in the right-hand lane. When being overtaken by another vehicle, such person shall ride as close to the right-hand side as practicable. Where a paved shoulder suitable for bicycle riding is present, persons operating bicycles shall ride on the paved shoulder. These provisions shall apply, except under any of the following situations:
(a) When overtaking and passing another bicycle or vehicle proceeding in the same direction;
(b) When preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway;
(c) When reasonably necessary to avoid hazardous conditions, including, but not limited to, fixed or moving objects, parked or moving vehicles, pedestrians, animals, or surface hazards.

So if she was going to make a left turn, she would be right, otherwise she is in the wrong.

I doubt she was going 5mph, though...

I ride to work and avoid every piece of road I can. I would much prefer a dirt path to ride(maybe some big rocks, drops, aspen groves)...but I cant have it all.

Riding your bike on the road is taking your life into your own hands. I have been nearly run over by drivers when I have the clear right of way. One moron trying to be a huckleberry and make a point is all it takes to end your life.

There are douchebags on both sides.

Yep and keep that in mind buddy....I'm the one who is getting as close to you as I can....You bike people feel more entitled then the backwets do... you guys are nothing more than a menace on the road and your attitude is usually 10 feet in front of you...But next time you have to pick yourself up off the road it was probably me who buzzed you. I know it's dangerous because sometimes I get to laughing so hard it's hard to see. Actually my avitar pretty much explains it all.

I flex big muscle on internets, LOL!

Maybe you missed the part about me absolutely avoiding the road as much as possible. I dont ride the road for fun, ever.

So no its not me on Deer Creek canyon on Sundays. Most road guys are douchebags, IMO

But if you still feel the need to buzz by me on my way to work while I'm puckered up on the shoulder... stop and chat next time, eh big fella.

"I actually had a cyclist riding her bike in the middle of a lane going less than five miles an hour. I honked my horn and she motioned for me to go around her!"

She's on a bike, you are in a car.
Are you seriously complaining about the inconvenience of waiting behind a bike during your commute?
What'd that set you back? 3 minutes? 5 minutes?
Leave for wherever you are going five minutes earlier.

Maybe you should read through this:

I dunno, Id88, I think you're making too big a deal about this ;-)

Link, if I'm not on my couch in front of the boobtoob, how can Fox tell me what to think?
You don't expect me to think for myself, do you?

I ride as far from where cars are driving as I can. #1, It is beyond stupid to challenge someone who is in an enclosed, powered vehicle while you are on your bike. BEYOND stupid.
Like going jousting with a shetland pony and a toothpick stupid.

#2, Lord knows how many stupid yuppies/teenagers/blog mods are on their cell phones and not paying attention to the road at any given time. Why take chances?

#3, Some psycho liberal might just run me down for the pure release it provides them.

I'm not putting my life in any of those folks' hands, no thanks. I'll be only too happy to stay off the road.

Sounds to me like Id88 is a typical liberal tax-and-spender.
"Waaaaaah, I can't share the road with bike riders. I want my government to build them their own bike paths because of my minor inconvenience!!!"

Don't let this liberal pull the wool over your eyes!!!

(Howdy GJ, thought I'd drop in and stir things up a little.)

Your a Class act LOD. And I believe the cars and trucks are paying the taxes on the road not bicycle riders who in fact feel entitled.
Hey WKD maybe next time when I'm out on the KTM I will see ya on the trails...I think that would be great to meet a fellow blogger.

LOD just take it easy their old boy...I bet you look smoking hot in your spandex and I am sure you pull off the old cameltoe look like no other guy could..... and just watch out for the VPL...those are so last year..Just kidding my little liberal friend I am sure this blog was very offensive to ya being I have no doubt you are one of those queefs we're talking about.

Not sure how I feel about 1gr8american trying to picture me in spandex.
"Creepy" would be the best word for it.

Guess I should expect that kind of sexual confusion from a hippie trying to defend this liberal blog post.

WKD-RDR,
please don't use spelling to beat the bad-word filter.
The bad word filter is there for a reason and whenever you use creative spelling to go around it I am forced to delete the comment.

I don't actually have to explain this to you (it's pretty clear in the TOS that nobody reads) but I thought I'd let you know why your last comment was deleted as a courtesy to you.
Next time it just gets deleted with no comment from me.

Thank you, come again.

My appologies LOD, LOL!

Do you know where money to pay for roads come from, gr8american BLEEPtard?

Unless you drive exclusively on toll roads... it's taxes, yes, TAXES.

I own 2 cars, and paid taxes on both. I am quite sure I pay more in taxes than you.

So get off MY roads.

Heck, I even gave you $600 to buy some upgrades for that KTM

But I'd still toast you with my bigwheel.

Flame on, show your ignorance and arrogance.

1gr8american,
uhmmm, you know those guys with cardboard signs on the side of the road aren't actually collecting taxes for the roads. Yeah, somebody should have said something about that to you sooner.
Hope they didn't take you for too much!

One more question if ya don't mind their weakone....How do you get those snail tracks off your seat after a long day of pedaling your mangina.

Ohhhhh!!!! Good come back LOD especailly from a guy who I would be willing to bet doesn't break $180.00 bucks a day while working for your bottom feeder news station, No worries my friend at least you get to work with some incredibly hot women.. Thank god your not into women or else that could be a real distraction.

Without you even telling us (twice) I could tell you were obviously a rich and powerful CEO 1gr8American.

Many CEOs spend time debating random people about bike-riding on blogs.
(After they are done lifting their heavy paychecks which are heavy because they make so much money of course.)

p.s. I'm going to let "mangina" pass since it is a made-up bad word, but since it doesn't really raise discourse at all in here I would ask that you not use it anymore. And if you do, the post will be deleted. Sound fair? good.

Its fun chest pounding on the web and all, really. But....

I find it hard to believe a gh8american CEO would not know how financial systems like taxes and roads work. Intersting. Hope your company can make it through these hard times with a fearless leader such as yourself.

This is the best...
