Alright folks,  several friends  are finally  back at work after taking mad dashes  to Scholitterbahn in the hill country and  Disneyworld in Orlando.  Here is the awful truth.  The  friends that went to  DisneyWorld  spent, on average  70 minutes for each  2 minute ride.

Friends from Schlitterbahn  waited  3  hours for the Master Blaster, and  the lines all over the park were so long  that in  8 hours they literally didn't ride one  single ride.  It was  beyond  packed.  It was so packed  the park turned off the  Wave Pool cause  people were slamming into each other  trying to beat the heat.   Spent 8 hours and literally never rode a ride.

Blame it all on  high  gas prices.  Record crowds are being reported all over Galveston too.   What's  your experience been.  Me?  we stayed home in our pool.

Lanny,

The beach, of course. I love hanging out at the beach.

If prices reach $5 a gallon at some point in the future, all us bloggers will be coming over to your house to go swimming.

I did the same thing. We stayed home and did our best to stay cool. We went to San Antonio one weekend but it was way to hot to go to Sea World

Staying at home, too. I have some air miles that I'm going to cash in for a ticket in the fall to visit my sister in North Carolina for an extended weekend sometime in late October/early November. It's my turn to visit her. Jeff will likely take some air miles we have, too, to go visit his parents in CT sometime after the 1st of November or may wait until spring when the weather is not so cold, but it's in our future. With Patrick, we just don't go on vacation as a family. But it is okay. Getting away by ourselves has its benefits, too.

WE drove to Florida...but went to the Club Med there in Port St. Lucie...it was nice, relaxing and all inclusive. I would not even try to fight the crowds at those places...I do know that Splashtown is bare bones on Mondays...Very nice place to relax and chill..if you have Mondays off..lol

But all in all we have been relaxing at the house and bbqin in the back enjoying our 130 degree days...

While in LA for the 4th, I was a bit overwhelmed by the crowds at the two casinos we visited. I mean, these places were booiming! I had been winning on a slot machine until Derrel suggested I move to another slot. I lost everything then and of course, blamed him!

Went to Las Vegas in July. Will never go to Las Vegas again. That's all I'll say about that.

Re water/ amusement parks...I know exactly what you mean..a 2 hr wait for a 2 min ride?

We avoid the crowds at Galveston, the parks, etc by going very early. Usually at the beach by 8am, and loading up to leave by noon. You see more the earlier you go to Galveston..from dolphins in the surf and the 61st street boat ramp lagoon, to pelicans wandering up and begging for food. Plus, go to Moody Gardens on a weekday, the earlier the better. Weekends are hell there!!

My parents work for Disney in Florida...so my family gets in for free and we get free parking. What we don't get: ahead of lines (unless we get fast passes like everyone else), discounts on food or free travel there. Fortunately, I know when to go to Disney and when to stay far, far away.
