My husband and i went to the Skynyrd concert last night. I must say that it was pretty good for a band that's been around for 30 years! The one thing I was a little surprised about was the amount of young children there. Under 10. I really do not feel that it was a good idea to bring children to that type of concert. There was a lot of drinking and pot smoking going on. Not the type of environment that I would take my children to. But I guess that is just me.

Klh,I agree with you, children shouldn't be taken to that type of concert.

My husband and I used take our kids to the Country Jam at the Berea Fairgrounds every year but,we decided to stop going after a few years ago. We were there to see Jodee Masina (sp)? As we were standing watching the show, people behind us decided to sit on the ground and ask us if we can sit down so they can see the stage! They continued to bother us then finally I asked them if they were going to ask the rest of the crowd to sit???? As there were dozens of people standing in front of us as well.

One year we were there and these young guys were standing next to my daughter and one of them fell on top of her. I said a few choice words and moved away from them. Yes,they were DRUNK!!! This concert is a family event, why do they sell beer is beyond me.

Part of the band members were killed in a plane crash in the mid 1970s. I thought they were even better then.

Actually, Dave, it wasn't. Free Bird was already out when the plane crashed. Their Street Survivors album had just come out. Ironically, they were engulfed in flames on the cover of the album.

this is a hillbilly band...and i dont think its ever appropriate to take kids into a hillbilly environment.....would you let your kids spend xmas in a trailer park...of course not....teach them the joys of education and dental health...and leave the pickup trucks to their cousins

Ricyw- I think you need to stop with the hillbilly stuff.

In fact Hillbillys were original Abolisionists who wanted to Abolish slavery in the Appalachians, especially in West Virginia, and they successfully broke away from Virginia to avoid being a slave state. Hillbillies are in many ways very liberal/progressive/populist and they support alot of programs like National Single Payer Health Care, Mass Transportation, and Public Education!

Rural Americans are important for the movement to take back America from the Right Wing, and we need to be working with them to do that!

west virginia broke with virginia after general mcclellan captured the northwestern 5 counties of virginia in 1862...those 5 counties decided it was better to not be the enemy after they were occupied....if they had been anti slave they would have broken in 1664 when virginia made blacks slaves rather than indentured servants....sloppy history gorbash..not like you

Hillbilly music? I thought it was Southern Rock

I love Southern Rock. The Outlaws, Allman Bros, Marshall Tucker Band, and even LYNYRD SKYNYRD. All those bands created such great music, and I loved the double leads.

Southern Rock was (is) 100% American Music.

I am married to a wonderful man for 10 years. Between the two of us we have five children. Ages 17 thru 26. I enjoy gardening, yard work and taking care of my grandson. My most favorite activity when I have time is to sit by our little pond with my coffee watching our fish.
