Well I'm not sure If I spelled that right or not. But anyway. I was thinking about this this morning. Why do some people feel it's not ok to scensor younger children. I was reading some of the blogs and it got me thinking. I saw on the news concerning the girl in 7th grade that was reading a book that the school picked out. They felt  the book was appropriate for these age groups. The book was full of swearing including the F bomb. I know libraries do not scenscor the books in any age group. I know when my oldest daughter was in the fourth grade she had to pick a book for school too. In this book I found it talked about masterbation!!!! The library said it wasn't up to them concerning the material. It was up to the parents. Which is fine, but I'm not familiar with the materials in these books. I would think the librarians would be.  PG 13 has some nudity in them, and a whole lot of swear words. I just don't understand why some parents feel there children are able to handle all this kind of stuff at such a young age. There are some adults that can't handle this kind of stuff. They don't always make the right descisions. So why do some people feel there children can handle things, and make the right descisions based simply on the fact that they are THERE children? Why should young children be subject to certain unappropriate things just because they can?

I agree that for a young child some things should be censored, but it has to be the parent doing it. The library cannot be held responsible--that would be taking the rights away from the parents.

When the boys were young they didn't want to read--they found it boring, but they like sports, so to get them to read I bought them each a book about football and baseball. When we saw them 2 weeks later for their weekend here, I asked them about it & sure enough, they gave me facts they read. Had I saw them reading a book on bomb making or kama sutra, it would have been confiscated.

I don't think the library has to censor the books. But I would like to see them rated per say. How are we supposed to know the material in every book? I think they are far more knowlegable in this area. Also they do not pay attention to what the children are doing on the computers either. Porn can be accesed if they want. I think that's outrageous too. Don't you have to be 18. I just think that the libraries hide behind these censor rights. I just think it would be nice to think they had some type of commom sense, and accountability like the rest of us.

A big part of the problem is that everyone thinks it someone else's problem. All of us are a part of the problem, but the good news is that we can all be part of the solution. Everyone needs to step up; schools, librarians, parents; everyone. If we don't we put the decisions in someone else's hands and leave their decisions based on their moaral beliefs - (enter stage right, the ACLU). They purport to defend our rights, but what they have always done and continue to do is to push their agenda of immorality and try to force it down the throats of the American people through a flawed judicial system.

I am married to a wonderful man for 10 years. Between the two of us we have five children. Ages 18 thru 26. I enjoy gardening, yard work and taking care of my grandson. My most favorite activity when I have time is to sit by our little pond with my coffee watching our fish.
