Hey Gang!!  Well folks I tell ya ... Just when I get a little upset with the way some of the people act in Cleveland ( the recent increasing homicide rate) something happens and I fall in love with this place. We did a shot today called "stuff the bus". We told folks to come down and donate school supplies for kids who can not afford them. We have been talking about it all week.

So this morning Clevelanders came out in huge numbers to donate supplies. I mean we had moms, dads, sons, daughters, eastsiders, westsiders, southsiders .. you name it they came out. We filled up a school bus in less than 4 ours and started filling up the second bus by 10 o' clock.  We had volunteers just wanting to help load the bus, we had charity groups donating money and copying paper. We had groups wanting to be a part of the program next year !!!

All  who came down did so out of the graciousness of their hearts, they did not want anything in return. I am really impressed with people in the city. Tuesday night I  witnessed some of the "ugly" and "dated" attitudes of two men in a certain part of the city. The truly sick part of the incident is ..one of them was on off duty civil servant!!! I am not and will not place all civil servants in a catagory with this idiot. I have friends who do the same job and are great people raised in great families.  I know those types of people who insist on spreading hate and not peace will exist in the city and the world for a long time. So when I see the 'good' people of the greater Cleveland area doing what they can to help their neighbor for no other reason than its the right thing to do .. it makes me feel proud to be a member of this city and country.

So keep it up good citizens !!!! ..  believe it or not, we in the media love to do stories on everything that is 'right' about our city and 'good' people making a difference!!

As always ideas, comments, suggestions .. hit the keys please and don't forget to check out the video blog!!

Bye every bodda !!!

I am not close to Cleveland, but I took the kids out there this past Christmas to drop off gifts for the needy. Unfortunately I did not make it out there for the Bus Donations. Sorry!Hopefully we can help at Christmas again.

It is commendable that the "poorest city in the country" is so generous. Basically, we are a city of good people with some "bad apples" trying to spoil the whole barrel!
I also find it interesting that it's usually the middle class and working poor who donate to charities. Guess they know what it's like to live from paycheck to paycheck. I'm willing to bet that not too many rich people dropped off donations.

Girlscout...I agree it is usually the middleclass and even the poor that give more than the upperclass..it like the story in the bible the poor old woman gave everything she had..

Kenny, you have to look at it this way. All cities large and small have it's share of the bad. But stuff the bus goes to show ya that it only takes a small effort to bring out the good in people. You will always have violence no matter where you go. But on the other hand, put forth the effort to bring out the good because it's out there for the taking.

Why does anyone have to put a negative spin on 'who' donated by speculating that there were not many rich people? I'm sure these were people from all walks of life. It would stand to reason that more "middle class' and 'poor people' donated simply because there are more of them. The fact is that people gave, who cares about there financial state when they are giving to people who have little or nothing? Kenny, Fox 8 likes to get involved. Why not do a turn in a gun, turn in drugs,[no questions asked] turn in a criminal[questions asked] program once a month? Start letting people know that Fox 8 wants Cleveland to be a safer place. Set up a "clean up the steets" program and target one area per week. Turn some willing people loose with garbage bags and sticks to pick up the trash that litters the steeets and road ways of Cleveland. There is a freeway exchange that goes from 176 to 90 west that is absolutely disgusting. I mean it is truly filthy. Is this what we want visitors of Cleveland to see? One steet, one area, one nieghborhood a week. People will do this and people will provide the supplies to do it if the city can't.

zeeball - I just made an observation that middle class people in general, are more generous than rich people. I was not trying to put a negative spin on it. Just my opinion, which I'm entitled too. Don't make such a big deal out of it and chill out.

It is very true that middle class income and even lower income people are much more generous than the upper income/rich by far. I have personally observed this several time. One year I started a giving tree in my town for kids in need. I heard such negative remarks from the rich people. I heard "if these people would go to work they wouldn't need to sponge off other people" and "don't you think they need to do for themselves instead of relying on us to do everything for them" and on and on. It just touched my heart to see even the elderly on fixed income share a christmas present with a child who wouldn't have gotten much if anything for christmas. Not a wealthy people are stingy but most of them are.

You should see how Cleveland school kids act and how they treat their possesions. Be it something that was donated and given to them or if their momma bought it.
If a camera was placed inside the schools without the kids knowing it, you would be amazed at the behavior. You would not give them a thing, they don't deserve it!
And of course the "PARENTS" will say "not my child!" They think their kids are angels. If only they knew the truth!
And another thing about donations. Do you know that the P.D. has a program that is supposed to have newspapers in the schools for educational purposes? They too ask for donations to help defray the cost. But did you know that most of the newspapers delivered to the schools never make it inside the building? Because most teachers have to babysit a classroom of unruly kids, they never incorporate the newspaper into their classrooms. The majority of the papers get thrown into the dumpster, the bundles are not even opened. Some schools get more than 150 papers delivered daily and I can say for fact that at least 125 of them get thrown out as soon as the custodian/assist. custodian gets the chance. Not the next day, the same day as they are delivered, perhaps just minutes after they are dropped off.
So now, how do you feel about donating to the Cleveland School System now? They are last on my list of recipients.

I have no doubt that there are a number of children who do treat their things this way (I have seen it with my own eyes and not just Cleveland kids). However not all kids are this way and many treat their things with respect and are truly thankful for anything they get. Because they know they wouldn't have it if it wasn't for you kind donation. Yes I do know how parents are and that is the reason I no longer run my daycare. I love the kids but I just can't take the parents (usually the mothers). Don't take it out on all of the kids just because a few have to ruin it.

what i have read here is terrible! some people just want a hand out! but, we give because we are people who care about the kids growing up today. what the future holds for them and for all of us i do not know. but, what i see it does not look promising. we as a people are so divided because of this administration. we need to stand up and take business into our own hands. also, parents are responsible for their children not the courts or other people to raise. ty

Thank you looney, you definatly spoke the truth.

Lotsofdust, I really do not mean to sound disrespectful and hopefully you take this the right way, but it's people like you who make snap judgements and who are quick to put all the Cleveland school kids down. Not all of them are bad kids and the one's who are, can be helped, more people just need to open their hearts and minds to helping and fox 8 is doing their part and so were the numerous people who donated. Alot of these kids come from homes where they have nothing so some don't know how to appreciate the small things and they are the one's whose parents couldn't give a darn about them or what people do to help, they feel as though they are owed something and they pass that on to their children. On the flip side of that coin are the other children whose may not have anything but they have taught their children to appreciate and not take for granted peoples generosity. For every 10 grateful kids there is one ungrateful and the you have to take the good with the bad but knowing that the one's who are grateful are being helped makes it all worth while.

Open your heart and mind and you will discover some of the roses in cleveland amongst all the weeds. This city has so much potential with our youngsters and if we continue to help them as they grow up they in turn will keep the generosity going and pass that onto their kids and so on. People who have been in thier positions are the one's who can truly empathize and are willing to help and we all need to chip in when possible and instead of all the negativity we will s

I was so tired of being bombarded by each newscast asking for help with this Stuff the Bus campaign. Look...I already pay their rent, food and medical. Do I need to buy their school supplies, too? If you cannot afford to properly provide for your own child through the age of 18, THEN STOP HAVING KIDS.

I agree with you to an extent dogfanatic, especially regarding the fact that some people need to stop having kids when they cannot afford them, however some people do honestly need the help and it's not because they choose to be lazy and not work or anything like that, but because they do work and try hard and still live literaly paycheck to paycheck. Have you noticed how bad the economy here in Cleveland is?? not to mention the amount of jobs that have been lost and the fact that Cuyahoga county has the highest forclosure rate in the NATION!!! If people are fortuante enough to be able to live comfortably and willing and able why not help...this was not for the parents this is for the kids, they are the one's who matter here and unfortunatly the one's who are suffering so why not make a childs life a little easier. Kids are harsh and mean these days and helping these kids out helps them to feel better and not be picked on because they don't have things. If you have never been in that postion to feel how they feel then you are blessed but God forbid something tragic happens in your life and you are the one who needs help...wouldn't you appreciate someone's generosity?

I think the majority of Clevelanders ARE good people. Unfortunately, like everywhere else, there are a few exceptions.

Obviously some of these comments were written by rich people. RICH PEOPLE SUCK! And there are many rich people that treat their stuff with disrespect, just look at some of our ''celebrities''! It's sad that some good kids get grouped in with the bad ones. I didn't get a chance to donate, but I wish I had. Keep up the good work Kenny, we need more good people like you!

How horrible these remarks are. You have obviously never been put into a situation where you needed some help. I know there are people who abuse the system in every way possible but then there are just as many people who are for whatever reason down on the luck so to speak of. If you have never walked the walk then don't talk the talk. I was married with four children. I was young. My husband had a very good job and we had a beautiful home. We supported our children with no government help. One day he lost his job that supported our life. Not to get into details but my dream life went down the tubes in a very short time. I was forced to be a single mom, work 2 jobs, go back to school to get a degree, pay my bills, raise my children to be respectable citizens, and keep my family together. It wasn't by my choice that this happened to my family. I was truly thankful and so were my children for any kind of help we could get at this point. It wasn't that I sat on my fanny and collected assistance and not go to work. I worked, went to school, ran my home, raised my children and I think I went through this stage in my life not knowing what sleep was all about. To top it all off with, I was ill. So all of you who think that EVERYONE who needs a helping hand is a deadbeat, I am hear to tell you that you are wrong (dead wrong). I know that there are many many people who have walked in my shoes and deserve a helping hand. Maybe one day you will walk in my shoes and get a different perspective on life. My kids appreciated what they got no matter how they got it.
