John McCain again confused Shiites and Sunnis during today's Senate Armed Services hearing, undermining suggestions that the he's just simply having a "McCain moment."

In the past month, the veneer of Sen. John McCain's alleged foreign policy "expertise" has been muddied by his repeated confusion of Sunnis and Shiites. During his Middle East tour, McCain repeatedly claimed that Al-Qaida, a Sunni terrorist organization, was receiving funding and training from Shia Iran. Only later, after Sen. Joe Lieberman whispered a correction in his ear, did McCain acknowledge his error. Problem is, McCain has since repeated his error, over and over again.

Lieberman's lesson has not quite sunk in, it seems. While questioning Gen. David Petraeus about the presence of foreign fighters, McCain referred to Al-Qaida as a Shia organization. Realizing his error, he quickly added a reference to the Sunnis, or "anyone else then" as he put it.

McCain just can't seem to get it right. Perhaps he is also "sleep deprived" or "misspoke" as Hillary puts it. I'm genuinely concerned about this man's inability to get his facts in order, anyone else?

Have you heard reports that Condi is courting the GOP Vice President position. She knows the difference between Shia and Sunni and I bet would be happy to brief him every hour or so to help him keep it straight.

Like you, I'm genuinely concerned too. But my concern is that he is a Stepford Wife and takes commands remotely via a chip in the back of his neck. I say that tongue in cheek, but the evidence says it best.

Isn't there a way to test for Alzheimers surreptitiously without humiliating the man?

I can't even tell the difference between Sunni and Shiite. As far as I am concerned there is no difference, I believe the past few years have shown that they'll fight against you one day, and fight for you the next, based upon perceived "slights".
garamps--I believe the only true diagnose of Alzheimers is an autopsy, it takes disection of the brain to determine it as the cause of death. That's how my Mom died.
Dementia, forgetfulness, etc. are the warning signs.
pJ--I think Condi would be a good counter to whatever offering the Democrats have to offer.

DHW...sorry about your mom.

As for McCain, hee, hee, maybe Dr. Phil could help to evaluate his fitness after he gets Brittney back to normal!

Can anyone point me to a good read on Condi herself, as she sees the V.P. role in her future considerations?

dhw, You are so right. There is no differance, a muslim is a muslim. Their koran tells them that they have a duty to kill anyone that they can't convert to muslim. That is what is in McCains mind right now, and rightly so. Al-Qaida is non-sectairian and will recruit any muslim who will join them. Wait a miniut, isn't that what Obamas pastor taught Barak? That they need to do away with the rich white people? And what about Hillary? She is so out of it that she has to make up fairy tails about her life because hers is not so honorable. Oh thats right, "misspoke"!!!

Once again, this is making mountains out of mole hills and hardly anyone cares about which muslim is which. They have been fighting and killing each other for centuries and will continue to do so for many more. Why ????. Because that is how they are taught from birth via the koran.

Yeah, I can just see it now, we bomb Pakistan and two minutes later President Crusty McCain says oh, I meant Afghanistan.
It's time for him to get out before he destroys whatever credibility he has left.

No difference? Why do you think they're fighting in the first place??

Perhaps if we learned another language in this country, understanding the cultures of others would be important. It is the mistake of this administration and military that they didn't learn about Iraqi culture before we attacked their country. Had they done an ounce of research, they would have bribed the people of that country earlier and saved a lot of money. But then Cheney wouldn't have all of the money he stole...

Wordly..

THe Koran didn't start the fight. Mohammad died before naming an heir. There was a huge disagreement between who should be the new leader of thier church. THen,according to Sunnis, the Shiite leader murdered the Sunni leader who went to have a sit down with the Shiite leader who was abusing his power. After the Shiites learned their leader had killed a peaceful man, they hit themselves thereby starting the Shiite tradition of beating on themselves when something bad happens. At lease that is what the Sunni I interviewed said.

Those forgetful McCain moments should be a warning for those about to vote for him. Senility, Alzhimers don't mix well with bombs.

I swore to my family and friends that I would not vote if McCain was my choice. I wanted Ron Paul, but would have been satisfied with Huckabee or Romney. Democrats aka communists are out of the question (I love my country and my freedom). Now with the threat of the Hillary or B.O., I am voting for McCain. If either one or both of the other two get in, I'm afraid I won't recognize my own country 4 years from now. I am pissed that McCain is not taking a stronger stance on the boarder issue. Maybe if enough people b*tch about it, he'll do something.

McKain wasn't my first pick either Wisegirl but in view of the ALTERNATIVES, I will have to vote for him also. I agree with everything else you said as well. At least McCain hasn't be caught up in lies and corruption like Hillary and he IS a true American, which is completely different than Obama... If McCain gets screwed up with the Shiites and Sunnis once in a while, oh welllll.... I do too.

Shiite, Sunni.. so far is all you've said he can't get straight... that accounts for about .03% of the things he talks about... sounds like a pretty good record to me...

How many things do you have to keep in order in your life? How many of those things slip your mind, or need to write down?

Quit nit-picking.

I am here to tell you that this is not nit-picking. If McCains mind is all that bad, aren't you just trading bad for worst! Oh yes, I sure want a drug thief like his wife to be the First Lady. Don't kid yourself. Get a life!

This is not nit-picking but telling the truth. Open your eyes people. If McCain can't even keep the Sunnis and Shiites straight, how is he going to keep other things straight? Don't know about the rest of you, but I don't want a drug thief as first lady, I don't care if she is worth millions!

Not much to say actually. Just a normal kinda guy. I drive a truck delivering groceries for a major food chain here in the valley. Try to keep educated on local and national events especially those concerning corruption and moral ineptitude by our "elected officials." Very much for protecting our freedoms and rights, always open to new ideas and discussions. I don't identify as Democrat or Republican, and don't like to be labeled as liberal or conservative. Just try to stay responsible and informed as possible.
