Flood Barracades

This is a huge pet peeve of mine. There is a huge sign that tells drivers NOT to drive through the water. SOME people think they are above all rules and attempt to drive through the water anyway. Then they have to be rescued. Remember the fire fighter who DIED helping people who drove around a barracade!?
I think anyone who has to be rescued due to IGNORING POSTED BARRACADES should be HEAVILY fined and have to do some sort of community service. It may not seem like a big deal to alot of people, but please remember that reckless people who avoid posted warnings not only put THEMSELVES in danger--but also put their rescuers in jeopardy.
It's plain stupidity!
My Beautiful Mommy.....

I just saw the story about the new children's book "My Beautiful Mommy" written to help children cope with things when mommy or daddy gets plastic surgery.
GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!
What exactly are we telling children? Mommy was ugly until a doctor made her look differently. Woman already have so much pressure to look like the skinny models and movie stars....teenagers are suffering from eating disorders---striving to be thin. NOW. some idiot, who claims to be an educated man, has written a bedtime story about plastic surgery. Mommy will look different, but it's ok, she is better now, prettier, happier, worth more in society. Yeah, let's pound this message into the impressionable minds of toddlers.
What's next??? "Daddy still loves you, but he had to go to prison" or how about "Mommy killed Daddy, but she still loves you"
How about this.................

With gas prices choking all of us, why can't businesses that are usually open Monday thru Friday for 8 hrs a day, switch to being open Monday thru Thursday for 10 hrs a day. Everyone would enjoy a 3 day weekend, PLUS - the demand on gasoline would drop considerably.
My husband's shop is considering doing this. Remember when we were younger, stores were not open on Sunday? What is wrong with going back to that concept?
We, as Americans are spoiled and wasteful. We would all be so much better off if we could just take a few huge steps backwards.
Food Rationing???

My 21 yr old son just called me to tell me about the story he read in the paper about rationing of rice. He sounded nervous, like he thinks we are all going to go hungry.
I read the article. It's not about "rationing" it's about stores like Sam's Club and Costco limiting the amount of rice that can be purchased by an individual. It goes on to say that restraunt owners are clearing the shelves of rice and some cooking oils.
Paranoia can strike fear in the hearts of America. If people start stock piling, OF COURSE there is going to be short supply on store shelves.
Instead of getting paranoid and stockpiling, Americans should start to think ahead. Life is NOT always about HERE and NOW. It's not all gimme gimme, I want it quick and easy.
I plan on canning alot of my vegetables from my garden this year (enough to more than carry us through until NEXT year's harvest time) Canning is time consuming, but all too often we PAY for the conviences in life and CALL them necessities. Some people will say canning makes the veggies lose alot of their vitamins. When you buy a can of corn off the shelf - do you REALLY know what you are getting?
I'm lucky, I live on a small farm. I have chickens for eggs and goats I plan to milk. In today's world you have to look out for yourself. One day we MAY have to stand in long lines for bread. I would much rather count on the sweat of my brow - rather than the government.
We all need to take a step back. Alot of people waste money, and then complain we don't have enough.
WOW am I confused!!!

I just read about the man (who is actually a woman) who may lose his children. It said he/she was married to a woman for years, and the wife never knew her husband wasn't realy a man. hmmmmmmmmmmmm.........I'm not being a smarta$$ or anything, but HOW can a woman NOT know her husband is NOT a man????? I'm totaly confused here.
As far as custody goes, these children are going to suffer if the wife gets her way. Her husband (the other woman) is the only father these kids have ever known.
PTSD

News
Recently, I have seen the term PTSD thrown around like a careless label. It is a subject I feel very strongly about. With all of the soldiers coming home and the ones already home, this is a REAL problem that they may or may not face. I think people need the FACTS.
Some symptoms of PTSD include: alcholism, drug abuse (caused by feeling the need to "escape"), re-accurring vivid nightmares that make you sit up in bed swinging or screaming. Emotional numbness, which results in problems with family, relationships, friendships, work. Being over sensitive to situations, always feeling you must be on guard. People need to be more understanding and compassionate.
I wrote this poem after thinking of the millions of people who are suffering from this problem;
do you ever wake in the middle of the night,
screaming in the darkness, praying for the light,
wondering if you will ever be "alright"?
do you lower your eyes, afraid of making contact,
do you hold your breath, waiting for the next impact,
do you worry about how those around you will react.
do you feel love, pain, anything at all
are your emotions locked behind a glass wall
do you put off moving forward afraid you will fall.
do you wish you could just disappear,
cease to exist or have others near,
are your daily thoughts attacked by fear.
are you lonely in a crowded room,
do you feel the darkness of certain doom
do you think the flowers in your heart will never bloom.
Please educate yourself before you judge others.
Time Warner Cable

Okay, so now we cannot fall back on the old stand by of an antennae to recieve broadcasts on our televisions. I didn't have a problem with that until today.
It's NOT windy, raining, snowing, or any other adverse weather, yet my cable is freezing up and jumping on the screen. What the heck is going on? Is this what we have to look forward to. Wonderful, HDTV that freezes up on a whim?? I will pay my regular bill, will Time Warner refund some of my money for the time when thier service isn't coming through. I don't think so. Sometimes technology is NOT your friend. GRRRR.
Just needed to vent about this.
Deerfield Animal Abuse

I can't get over the cruelty and stupidity of people. This case is right in our backyard.
This woman had 33 cats in her basement, a dog, and a dead horse in her yard. My first question is...she was renting this house, didn't the landlord notice anything?
The fact of having 33 cats blows my mind! And to tie a horse up, with no shelter is just bizarre!
I had to find a new home for my horse because of some personal issues that I had going on in my life. You can always find a home for horses. Just GIVE it away. Happy Trails Animal Sanctuary in Ravenna takes in farm animals all the time.
To move out and leave animals locked inside is sadistic. I realy hope this woman doesn't have children.
Car accident kills grandfather

I just read the story about the grandfather who was killed in a head on collision with a car driven by his own grand daughter. Oh my goodness. Can you imagine what this young lady is going through right now, not to mention the rest of her family. My thoughts and prayers are with all effected by this horrible accident.

I read a blog about boycotting Tower City for banning teenagers. At the same time we are always hearing on the news about another toy recall. That is what needs boycotted. We all have things in our home made in China. Now, when I shop I look for things made in the USA. It's not that easy, but with some online research you can find what you want. Yes, it costs more, but in my opinion I would rather pay more than take a risk with my child's safety.
House explosion in Beloit

I pray for the recovery of this family. What a horrible ordeal to go through.
I live not to far from Beloit, and out this way alot of people have either propane or fuel oil as thier heating source. I use to have natural gas when I lived in the city, and never gave much thought to it. Now that I live in the country, I heat my home with fuel oil. (it's real similar to diesel fuel) In my basement, directly under where I am sitting now, I just had 150 gallons of fuel oil delivered. I don't realy feel real comfortable about it. But then again, I have heard of homes with natural gas exploding too. I wonder if I am at any greater risk having fuel oil.
My prayers and thoughts are with this Beloit family.
So Much Violence

We hear of so much violence in the news. Babies being beaten or killed, pregnant women murdered, disputes settled with guns. What is wrong with the world? I am blessed to live in a community with very little violence. My children were not raised around hateful, self righteous people. It makes me sad to think of how the world will be for my future grandkids.
Law abiding citizens get fed up. Is there a solution to all this?? If there is, I have no idea what it would be.
Quit Smoking

Well, I decided to quit smoking. My last cigarette was on December 28th. Sometimes I feel like ripping someone's head off, but I take a deep breath and tell myself that it will pass. I am using the patch. It realy helps, but sometimes I REALY want a cigarette!! This is one of the hardest things I've ever done.
I just watched the story about the lady who was walking her dog in Portage county and it ended up getting killed in an illegal animal trap.
First of all- why on earth did she take her dog off the leash? Doesn't Ohio have a leash law? Using illegal traps is wrong! I am in no way saying it is right, but it is the pet owner's job to be responsible for their animal.
You realy hit on a sore spot with this story.
In March of this year I was woke up at 6:00 am by my neighbor telling me his dog got loose and killed my pet goat. I was devastated!! It turns out my goat wasn't dead, but when the vet finaly got here my goat was barely breathing and it was a miracle he was still alive. My goats are in an enclosed, 5 ft. high fence. This dog got into the pen somehow and thrashed my goat around like a rag doll, and killed 5 of my chickens. My goat slept on my front porch for a month while I had to give him pain killers and antibiotics four times a day. He couldn't walk, he would fall flat on his face. I had to flush out deep puncture wounds in his neck to prevent infection. He went through hell because of irresponsible pet owners. Alot of people may not understand, and say it's JUST a goat. My goat means as much to me as city people's dogs. My goat is forever disabled by that attack. Loose dogs are a danger!! To people, property, and livestock. If you love your dogs- keep them on a leash!!!!! I have dogs too, so it's not like I am an animal hater, quite the opposite. I love animals.
I feel very bad for this lady loosing her pet.
But I have a question>>>>>>>>>>>
Why did her story make the news and when I contacted channel 8 about my story, and the problem with loose dogs in Portage county I was ignored??!!
I hope they catch the person who set the trap, but I also hope people learn to keep their dogs on leashes.
Just needed to vent.

Recently a lady got a flat tire in front of our house. We live on a 55mph road at a dangerous intersection. My son told her to pull her van in our driveway. She hesitated at first, but then my son told her he was afraid a truck would go by and hit her. (we have alot of semi traffic) To make a long story short, after the lady's husband got here and changed her tire she tried to hand my son money. She told me he was so nice, concerned about her safety, and even brought our baby goat out of it's pen to entertain the 3 kids she had with her. My son refused the money, several times. We simply told her next time she can help someone- that will be payment for our help. It's one of those times when I'm very proud of my son. Wouldn't it be nice if the whole world treated each other the way they would like to be treated?
