Simple statement:
WHAT WAS DR. EUGENE SANDERS THINKING TODAY OPENING THE SCHOOLS WHEN KIDS WERE FORCED TO WALK IN THE STREETS BECAUSE NOT ALL SIDEWALKS WERE NOT SHOVLED OR PLOWED WITH A SNOWBLOWER. WHAT A TRAVESTY.
Now, not all can be blamed on him for his past 4 calls on closing the schools but CLEAR ROADS DOES NOT MEAN CLEAR SIDEWALKS!
Until next time./gb

Ok, this is Cleveland but in San Diego you have a team (NFL) that goes 14-2. They end up losing a tough playoff game to New England by three and you figure Marty Schottenhiemer should get a contract extension.
Well, in this family, the GM and the Coach are not on speaking terms. Marty says a few weeks before the ax swung that he would finish out his current contract. Ok, but the Chargers lost coaches on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball and you could just see the start BUT...
When you have a GM and Coach not on speaking terms, one must go. The coach goes 14-2 and has the support of the players. The GM is afraid to speak to the coach. What is wrong with this picture?
You let the GM go and not the 14-2 coach. San Diego, what a choke. The one that should have been terminated was that of the GM. The president of the team in the short term may have made the wrong decision but in the longer term, we just do not know.
Marty will be back coaching again. I am not saying he'll land here but anything is possible with the shakiness of Romeo Crennel and also the added pressure of a website to hire Bill Cowher.
Anything can happen at any given time. This just seems to be a raw deal. NO job is ever safe.
Until next time./gb

With back to back victories over the Heat and the Lakers the Cavs hopefully, we have gotten over a small bump in the road and start playing like a team that should contend and play like the team that was one game away from the Eastern Conference Finals.
I am not saying they have at this time. We do have a need that might help this team. Acquiring a point guard could be the piece in the puzzle that help LeBron James play his game. James is depended on for numerous things but we need to spread the wealth like today's game against the Lakers.
Having James score only 10-20 points with everyone else pitching in is better than he become hercules and score 45-50 and involve no others on the team. We are sometimes a jekyll and hide adventure where drama is the understatement.
I just want to cheer on for a Cleveland winner. It doesn't matter who but one of major sports teams need to play with a mission and let no one be in their way. I have highs and mighty lows with all of them.
Close but yet so far can only be said so many times. It is our turn.
Until next time./gb

Ok, relax NBA. you have nothing to get overblown over.
So you have had a player who finally declared himself a homosexual. In this day and age, it is a personal and private decision of this individual to make a heart wrenching choice. This should be that person and the media also needs to cool its heels on this matter and cover sports with the game and personalities that contribute to the game with make this issue sensational.

Ok, before this gets blown out of whack, let us find out what the cause of death and prevent a media goose chase and sensational headlines and interviews with people that saw her during that day.
She had a life. Now there is a little girl with a mother and her father is being determined by a test with results coming.
This is just a sudden shock to a family that has fought others for something she has a right to.
Ok, she may have her faults but when it came to the highest court in the land, she won her ruling 9-0.

I have been an icecube since this windchill effect started. I applaud those School Systems that had the sense to close down due to these temps.
I am thinking that I MIGHT have to get out and work for the Schools tommorrow as they prepare to open their doors. This is a guess.
This might again be the time to be safe than sorry and prevent those that have the long walks, lack of equipment along with little or no protection on their heads. I perspnally have witnessed this and see children of all races not kept warm as most do lack simple gloves or even wear different clothes (like hoodies) and feel nothing but are idiots in doing this.
These are children. Their lack of listening about what to wear in the winter and how our winters as kids were.
Well, lack of sense and sensibility lack in this generation. Until next time/gb

Ok, being cold and forced to get the mail is the understatement of the day.
I have been in this chill since about late Sunday night and this will continue for a few more days.
This snap of air is going to move out soon but its stay has been memorable.
It reminds me of the time when I was a kid and I to not only battle the cold but the snow express of 77-78. Delivering the Press usually took 20 minutes but this day it was an 1 1/2 hours just to walk down a street.
Well, Cleveland, stay close to a heater and keep warm.
In advance, I would like to thank the CMSD for their efforts in closing the schools due to the wind chill factor. Good job, Mr. Sanders. Until next time./gb

To Mayor Jackson, City Council President and the 21 Representatives of this body: I'll make this a simple as I can. I can agree that some city departments derseve new contracts and pay raises and some get judgements by civil court. I also do not have a problem with being classified a part-time city employee. What the beef is the fact that those that voulunteer as guards have NOT been rewarded raises in pay , in my tenure as a guard, for five years. I started at a wage of twenty dollars and fifty cents and five years later, I STILL make that same wage as prices and inflation have gone up BUT the pay has stayed the same. This is frustrating to see others get a raise of the pie but our cut now has been ignored for FIVE YEARS. Mr. Jackson, Council President, and that 21 body composed of Ladies and Gentlemen: Something needs to be done about this injustice. I can not go to an annual meeting and hear we were denied a chance at the piece of pie we are so deserving of. By the way, there are some who do this thankless job that bake in the sun, stand in the rain, get sleet and snow along with the wind. Think about this when you approach the crossing guard and rewarding them an overdue raise in pay. Thank you and until next time/gb

An open blog to Dr. Eugene Sanders:
Sir, this is no brainer decision that has to be made about sending Cleveland school children to their neighborhood school.
For them and the crossing guards that have to actually stand in actual expected temps below zero with windchills even lower this is a day that you state as "day off" and you count it towards your snow days that the system has.
When you make a decision that is the opposite, you will not only have angry parents BUT crossing guards that have to make this sacrfice to stand out in the cold, artic, freezing air and make all attemps to cross the kids to the best of their individual abilities.
Mr. Sanders, the ball is in your court. Do the best you can and take an amount of time that you need to make this decision.
Until next time./gb

Why frown about this artic express of freezing cold air when just about two months ago we were riding bikes and golf in DECEMBER? Amazing, how this climate can change, espically in Cleveland and the North Coast.
Why try to get angry about this? I have lived through this and even the winter of 77-78 when it just would never stop. That snow and cold had my windows of the house vibrating and the barometer that was in my kitchen recorded the lowest, ever.
I just hope that Clevelanders like myself are bundled up and keeping warm. Some may like this weather and might be taking to the slopes. Again, imagine, two months ago, the slopes were mud puddles.
Mr. Goddard and the weather team at Fox 8: Just do the best job that you can. Keep us informed and tell us what is going on about actual air and windchill temps.
Until next time/gb

I am still giddy with excitement because an injustice was turned around.
Gene Hickerson was a newly elected memeber of the Hall of Fame. I know that I am being redundant, but I just can't let go of this.
This story takes my mind off the cold, artic air that has encompasses the city of Cleveland.
I just wondering, to Mr. Dick Goddard, what are you memories of Gene and that offensive line of the 60's? I know you were and still are the stat man for home games so the feelings for this have to be above the ceiling.
That drive, I know I am saying this again will be one that he'll never forget. Avon to Canton is not very far.
The countdown has started. August 4th will be a fine Brown and Orange day as the army of long time fans will make Fawcett Stadium their own paradise.
Until next time./gb

HOF:GREAT JOB!!!!!!
This is and has been overdue for #66 (I am sorry in advance if that is the wrong Jersey).
I remember, bits and pieces when he played but our first color TV by Sears had him blocking for Leroy Kelley that day.
This is finally the news that Jim Brown has wanted to hear for years.
Browns fans, Canton here we come!,in force when we have to!!!!!!!
HOF: ALSO ABOUT TIME. That clock was ticking and this was his last chance to enter.
That drive from Avon for him will now have special meaning everytime he takes his children and granchildren down to that special place off I-77. Until next time/gb

Ok, I read some comments and I will agree that this did start before Bush but this is his administration and the thought of domestic policy is minute in comparision to his invasion decision on and in Iraq and other foreign policy matters.
I also agree that we need to make the availbilty of hybrid cars to all and affordable. This would be a BIG start. Also, we have current that are availble to all are energy saving appliances.
I have three of those. A stove, refridgerator, and dishwasher. I also save by using energy saving bulbs. Yes, the money upfront is more but the savings comes in the use.

The huge truck with equipment is heading for spring training in Winterhaven leaves this afternoon. HOORAY!
This can take my mind off about how much artic cold we will encounter this weekend.
I am just simply going to stay at home in my house and put covers on me when availble.
Have a great weekend. Super Bowl XLI is Sunday. Enjoy this on TV unless you want to remain and are in an igloo. Until next time/gb

This is another joke. Global Warming has been proven and the government of these United States are going to perfom another "tap dance" around the issue. It starts at the top and our current President, George Bush.
Instead of concentrating all his priorites on Iraq, he needs to worry about the domestic policy. This is now coming to his mind, 6 years too late.
Just imagine. You can actually save monies by investing in energy saving appliances and light bulbs. Also, during the day, you can turn off your lights when the sun is out.
Until next time/gb
