I wonder if anyone is willing to say that to raise our taxes for the better good, is too much?

Can California put up with another Governor that promised to balance the budget without raising taxes and didn't produce? Isnt the mess were in right now the same reason we recalled Gray Davis? I know I wouldn't mind paying even a hundred more dollars per year in order to get California back on track. the problem afterward is would the Governor reign in the state spending formulas that have contributed to the budget crisis that we find ourselves in now. Now, education happens to be one of those autopilot spending formulas but, look at the progress we have right now in our reading and math scores. I wached a news segment on a project that Cal trans wants to start on the 405 in the Sepulveda Pass area, their only concern is if they do not start the project they will lose it in the budget for the next fiscal year.

I don't know about you but with 36.5 million residents or more in the state of California I think if we at a minimum had to pay $40 dollars more per year in taxes it would increase state revenue by $15-$16 BILLION, didn't the Governor say that our deficit for 2008 would be $8.6 billion or something to that effect.

Oh weel wishfull thinking, like we can really expect our bogged down partisan representatives to come together for the good of their constituents. They better! the same people whose livleyhoods they are playing with are the same people that put the in public service and there will be a price to pay come election time if they don't get it right.

"I know I wouldn't mind paying even a hundred more dollars per year in order to get California back on track."

oh wow, we must think very highly of education cause I swear to you, I was thinking the exact same thing! I would HAPPILY pay $100 a year to help the state of California's education CRISIS. VERY HAPPILY. Does anyone have any idea how much private school costs? Well I do because my husband and I desperately want our children out of the public school system. For our three school aged children it would cost us, an average of $600 per child per MONTH. That’s $1800 a month for them to have a shot at a decent education. Let me say it again, $1800.00 A MONTH. So yeah, we wouldn’t mind one bit paying $100 dollars a YEAR in taxes for education. So lets do it! Maybe we should all just send it to Governor Schwarzennegger ( I wasn’t lucky enough to receive a proper education in an appropriate “learning environment” so I gave up on education and now I don’t know how to spell our governors name. Sorry. ) so our kids can have a shot at a decent education instead of the chaos public schools are currently in. I wrote this on my blog: “Schools. Out of the 1,200 Seniors last year at RHS, only 362 graduated. Can you believe that? I asked an administrator at the Rialto School District as to why that happened and he said he doesn’t know why. Ha. Could it have something to do with the fact that there’s 4,300 students attending that school? Out of the 362 that graduated, only 120 went on to a Junior College. Two I think went to a University. 838 out of 1,200 Seniors didn’t graduate las

838 out of 1,200 Seniors didn’t graduate last year. Shouldn’t they be concerned about this? I know I am. The atmosphere in that particular school, is not one of learning, its more like a place where 4,300 young people go to hang out.” But the RSD is cutting 300 jobs???? GREAT! Things can only get better (sarcasm)

Right, and like I wrote before part of the problem is that parents are not involved for one reason or the other. Your children will be thankful later on in life that you take their education so seriously. I hate to say it but for the majority of those students that didn't graduate or for those that will not graduate this year, there is an expectation for them to enter the work force and contribute to the household or for them to go make their own lives because their parents have done their duty and raised them so now its time to get out. As for the administrator at your child's school (I'm assuming that at least one of your kids attends) I wouldn't accept that answer from him because most assuredly knows the answer. He can't give you detailed student information, he can however give you statistics that the district maintains.

I am raising a leader, I hope that more people will take up this attitude and begin to get involved in the education of their children so they don't become a statistic and can one day say my parents made every effort possible to make a path of success for me to walk down.

Parents don’t take any interest in their children’s education, you got that right. I've been told by several principals that I'm part of only 2% of parents that actually care and frequently visit their childs school. I've also pissed off many teachers and a few principals by demanding accountability from the schools. We're all responsible, parents above all, teachers, Government, & school administrators. We're all failing our children. We don’t do enough. Parents think of school as free daycare and some teachers, NOT ALL, and administrators seem to get annoyed by the few parents that demand the best possible learning environment at school, and politicians don’t seem to understand or want to understand what "regular" people like us go through trying to make the best of it all. In the end its the future success of all American children that’s at risk as a result of all this neglect, lack of accountability and lack of interest by those children’s own parents.

Somewhat true. You can't be that generally opinion-ed about everyone, like you said, you are part of only 2% of involved parents and just like there are teachers and districts that take the children's educational welfare quite seriously. On the other hand, some teachers, administrators and most importantly, parents do not see education as a means to an end. I can't stress enough that if parents are not involved in their children's educational welfare then all the best teachers in the world may not be able to make a difference in those kids lives. Rialto has some great teachers in their district and I doubt that the blame for the educational failure of so many children lies solely with them. Remember a fraction of those kids did graduate which means that either the rest of the kids are remedial, or they weren't trying which leads back to the parents in most cases because education was not important enough for the parents to keep track of their children's progress.

In a nut shell, the percentage of teachers that don't take their responsibility as educators seriously, is most likely far less than 1%. Do you hear that parents? Get involved your children will either praise you for your involvement or blame you for their failure.

Well, you are right and that's why I said not all, but...if I told you the things that go on at RHS you'd understand what I mean. Last year a teacher was fired for having sex in a school parking lot with a 15 year old student, that's one example. There are many more, most go unnoticed and the only reason I know about them, is because I talk to my daughters about everything. They're not allowed to go to anyone’s house, so all their friends come to mine. And the reason I know for a fact that parents don’t care about their children very much is because these kids are desperate for attention. They all call me mom and they say how they wish I'd adopt them. They open up to me like you couldn’t imagine so I have no idea why parents complain about their kids not talking to them cause I cant shut mine up. Or their friends. If we all tried a little harder and parents began acting like parents, things would be very different.

GRRR! I think that will say how frustrated I was last Xmas to visit a very good friend and it was a week before her daughter went on break. Idaho was where I went. I do Daycare as most know I help and make sure homework is done. Sometimes after leaving here families are so busy.
The 3rd grader my God Child {in Idaho} made me so proud but it was a sad day. To see that there are children being Educated at a fantastic level was great. Very sad not ours here in Calif. where people will die to come to live.
Private School dasvics you bet. If only I could help you do that. Home School? Some say it works we know it has to be safer than dodging bullets right? But Social Skills are so important. The numbers should make everyone angry. Kids are actually trying to go to school to learn and are not being taught for money reasons lack of Teacher no Funds.
I have no children in School[ I have 4 Grandchidren in School} but I would pay that Tax to see that kids are educated like they are entitled to and promised. We have had to change our Twilight Year Plans so that we are here to help not just our Grandkids but as many as we can. That new Freeway is to cut travel time 10 mins. I believe I heard.
Parents? A few weeks ago I blogged that it should be mandatory that Parents are involved. They are your children man up woman up or just Parent up. You are Parents not babysitters these are your children. Lead by example. What is it going to take? Allowing the "Politicians" to make all the calls? There is a name for that. Isn't that a large reason why we Fight and go to War? So we as regular
