Thursday's decision by a four judges in the California State Supreme Court has sent shock waves throughout California unlike any earthquake possibly could. Despite legislation that is on the books that bans gay marriage, the law is currently null and void. So essentially, even though the majority of Californians do no want gay marriage to be legal, it is.

So that means Ellen DeGeneres and others can now marry their significant others.

But is this a good thing for gay people?

I submit to you that it isn't.

This qualifies as a victory for gay people who are seeking the desire to be "married" to their boyfriends or girlfriends. But did they do more damage to their cause?

You have to figure that the majority of Californians who do not want gay marriage, and expressed their views in a vote, are not happy, and are probably not  willing to bend in their stance. In fact, they are probably angry at these developments and are less tolerant of what gay people are seeking than they were when they voted.

I would imagine that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger didn't help his bid for re-election by publicly saying that he would not do anything. Again, considering most of his constituents are against what happened Thursday, you would think he would have SOME interest in upholding the law.

The image at the right is exactly the type of thing that many Californians find unsettling. The militant, take-no-prisoners attitude that many gay people show when it comes to fighting for their right to marry. Obviously not all homosexuals are like this, but it seems that they are not the ones whose views are heard. Moderate attitudes aren't sexy enough to be shown on TV as you know.

Personally, I think there's an easy solution to this problem that should satisfy everyone. I think the word "marriage" should be relegated to a man and woman. But homosexuals should have civil unions which will entitle them to the same legal rights that married couples have. This way, the word "marriage" is kept to a man and woman, but gay people have the same legal rights as heterosexuals do. Unless I'm missing something, this is a win-win situation.

And then we can all take to the streets and dance like this.

Just a few observations...

1) Californians voted overwealmingly NOT to allow gay marriage and here again our once democratic system has been shot down by the increasingly Communist influences inside of our government.

2) This ruling can ONLY serve to hurt Obama in November. People who were already voting for Obama will probably still do so, but ex-Republican who are now independents will NEVER go for this crap.

3) And finally, this is not uncommon in advanced societies. Rome tried it, Egypt tried it, the Greeks tried it too. All three civilizations went straight into the toilet after that.

God help the poor children who have to explain "their two dads" while growing up at their schools. If you thought our society had problems before, that's nothing compared to what will come.

I'm guessing you're using some sarcasm in your first point, since this is a case of loony liberal thinking and not Communism. Somehow I don't think Commies really like gays.

It won't hurt Obama in November because this state is voting for him regardless of this ruling.

I like the idea on the name thing.

Rather not see the dance... I'm kind of more the 'don't ask don't tell' thinking that was the Army way waaayyyy before Clinton made it policy.

It's like I'm a Christian first and an American Second. This means my personal ethics are measurable and governable by God Laws and my community ethics are measurable and governable by mans.

I think that it is not possible to legistlate biblical morality when freedom of expression is believed to protect us from tyranny. For my part the parable of the good Samaritan could just as easily be replaced with the parable of the good 'homosexual' of the good 'Liberal' or the good 'Commie'.

I just don't know... you know? But I cannot lie that I do have a deep concern that folks who chose that direction in sexual orientation be it natural or not have made a bad choice. However our scientific understanding on this issue show clearly that more grace than most fundamentlist are willing to apply needs to be applied. God forbid any of their children be born with ambiguous genitailia.

Uh not quite Ddain. Marxism promotes a gay agenda to destroy the family unit, that is a straight historical fact of a socialistic state that preaches communism. By destroying the family and censoring religions Marxists gain control over individuals which is happening in-state at an astounding rate. The only religion the California and national Marxists embrace is Islam, but the Homosexuals will quickly discover that Akmed doesn't like homosexuals and in fact they kill them where they find them. So yes this court decision is by Marxists, it is very clear that Democracy is dead and we are headed for a bloody revolution in this country. If not, then kiss this country good-bye.

In THIS STATE "MAYBE". But there's a lot more to the United States beyond California, and believe me they will not want this abomination to hit THEIR STATES.

My prediction (as much as I hate both candidates) is that McCain will be your next president. We'll see if I'm right in November.

Yes... Yes...

There's a reason every religion that's ever existing looks down on homosexuality. Every single one, since the beginning of time. I hope I don't have to explain in detail why that is.

It is my opinion that the future American/world citizens will look back on these times like we look back on our predecessors and see how intelligent yet close minded we can be, and how all to often we cater to the lowest common mindset instead of elevating the level of intelligence in the discussion. Many people argue that it is immoral, and a choice, and that the bible says its wrong. Well, the bible also says to stone people to death and not to eat shellfish. Therefore, I agree with calling it a "civil union", but I'm not gay. I AM, however, of the belief that the religious folk need to keep to the known universe when debating issues such as these. As I understand it, The few gay people I personally have grown up with did not choose this lifestyle and most are not zealots. However, many are depressed and suicidal.

Just goes to show you, it's not normal. And as far as the genetic disposition, how do you explain identical twins (with identical genes) one gay, the other straight. I've seen this many, many times.

Anyways, I'm far less upset about gay marriage than the fact that the "will of the people" has once again been ignored. This issue was voted against by the majority of the state and once again their voice has been ignored. Why vote, for anything these days? Obviously we're not living in a democracy.

I am also a person who is born and raised catholic, all the way through graduation of catholic high school ( Servite, in Anaheim ) and my best friend at the time came out to me after telling me first he was seriously contemplating suicide. Homosexuals have it tough already they don't need more aggravation, like when the person they truly love for many years, dies and the surviving partner has no rights.

I have heard the Greeks were openly homosexual before their society bit the dust , but they also slept wth children.

I too am not happy with the vote being overturned. Were those judges placed by Republicans? Maybe Republicans are trying to throw a wrench in the upcoming elections in hopes of turning the tide in their favor. Ha Ha. Maybe if every homsexual couple agreed to wear an American flag pin, God will save them.

Maybe we can convince more people that it "totally sucks" here, and they will give up their waiting jobs, bartender jobs and extra work and move back home. That's so lame that people still have rights.
