I'll tell you who, probably the greatest guitarist to pick up an
 instrument.

I took in the December 14th concert at the Staples Center, and I was amazed. I waited a long time to see Van Halen with original front man David Lee Roth, and it was well worth the wait, and the dough I spent on tickets (never really was a fan of Van Hagar).

There was was a video screen over the stage so you could see the guys up close, and when Eddie did his "Eruption" solo, it focused on his hands so you can watch him shred. Amazing stuff.

I've seen my share of concerts over the years, but these guys were unreal. And I have to give props to Wolfie, he did tons of background vocals and played a mean bass.

Dave sounded good, you could really hear him belting out the songs to try and keep up with Ed's guitar. They led off the show with "You Really Got Me" and it just took off from there.

Has anyone else seen their show?

i missed it. sorry, but had to buy presents for family and friends. yes van halen is a great band, and i'm glad they are one of the very few bands getting any props for being a great band. i'm sad that anthony is no longer in the band. he was my favorite band member. he seems like a great guy, very non-rocker, but that's what made him different, and cool. as for van hagar, well i like him as the lead singer. he did a good job, and came out with some great hits, but the energy was different. it went from a party band to a more serious adult contemporary type sound. i have no f'n clue what they were thinking about when they got the 3rd singer. but glad to see them back and i hope it's gonna last a while.

I'm not sure how long it will last, they don't have a record contract, and I doubt they have plans to go into the studio to put out new music.

I think the way the Michael Anthony situation was handled just proves how much of a jerk Eddie is. He basically tossed him out of the band.

I hear you about Sam, their music did change quite a bit in his tenure. Dave puts on a better show though.

And the 3rd singer? We don't acknowledge that.

from what i read, and heard, they are planning on making a new album after the tour is over, but who knows if they will finish the tour. lot's of ego's, and it's van halen, they can break up any time. but let's hope for one more album.

It would be great, but they need a contract first. And you're right, who knows how fast Dave and Eddie could start hating each other again.

well i'm thinking they have enough money to do it on their own, and i kinda perfer it. i would like to see what they come up with, with out the record company telling them what they should do. will they go back to the old van halen style?, will they continue with the adult contemporary? will they just go all out in being artistic? will they venture in a deeper darker sound? who knows. but it will be cool to see what they come up with.

I agree, and if it leads to another tour, I'm for that too.

i also read up on why anthony was kicked out. from what i read, it was because he started a hot sause company, similar to joe perry's hot sause brand. eddie didnt like the idea for some reason was pissed off by it. this is also the reason why sammy was kicked out, because of his liqour business. a really dumb reason to kick a person out. i mean, they havent done much in years, and he's just trying to make a buck, and let people know van halen is still around and kicking.

i also read that in the last 2 albums they didnt let anthony have a say in much of the music, and most of the recordings was eddie playing the bass rather then anthony. he didnt want anthony to tour with the band on the 1st reunion tour, but sammy wouldnt agree to the tour if anthony wasn't a part of it, plus the only way for eddie to agree with this was if anthony was given less money, and could never use the van halen name to promote himself nor anything he does. what a low blow.

it's rare to find bands where everyone is important. motley crue is similar, because everyone knows who tommy lee, nikki sixx, vince neil and mick mars is, like aerosmith, and audioslave. but then there are tons of other bands where it's all about the lead singer or lead singer/guitarist.

Sounds good, buddy. Do you happen to own any of the G3 DVD's? I watched the Denver show last night (Oct.20, 2003). It's Joe Satriani and Steve Vai (of course), with special guest, Yngwie Malmsteen!!

Talk about your shredders! They get together at the end for: Rockin' in the Free World, Little Wing, and Voodoo Child. C'mon, man. Yoow!

The only concert DVD's I have are of AC/DC. But this one, when it comes out (and I'm guessing that will be in the summer) will be a must have. Especially considering I doubt they'll tour again in this formation.

Wow that brings back old memories. The music biz is certainly going through major changes, so great talents like these guys aren't getting the same breaks they had back in earlier times. But yeah glad to hear they were back together.

I have a hard time finding more "current" acts that I really like. I seem to dig way too many bands who either started or were big in the 70's and early 80's.

Hey man I went to that show. I loved it and they kicked ass but when did David Lee Roth join the circus. I mean the top hat and all the other stuff he was wearing..........I had great seats about 3 rows from that runway they put out into the audience. The music was awsome
