I can't stand it. It's so confusing and frustrating that I wish it'd just go away, but I cant stop thinking about it & trying to understand it. Could it be because we (my family & I) walk outside and see how our cities are changing?

Years ago we had Ralph’s and Albertson’s grocery stores in our neighborhoods (here in the IE & Norwalk) now we have Fiesta Foods and Superior. The Albertson’s, later on Lucky’s on Firestone Blvd in Norwalk that my dad always shops at, is now a Northgate Gonzalez. ??? These stores sell mostly Mexican products, but…. we liked the old products. They where good products, we don’t like these new stores. But what choice do we have? Vons? Heck the only one in my area is really far away and kind of pricey, why is that btw?

Stater Bros is good, so that’s the one I usually go to, and Food 4 less, a Kroger/Ralphs Company, but they too sell mostly Mexican products instead of giving me the variety I want. If I want to find the cheeses, deli meats, canned items, or frozen items that I grew up with and really like, I’ve got to go waaaaaaaayyyyy out of my way to the Vons in either North Fontana or Redlands.

We used to like Wal-mart because everything sold in that store was made in the U.S.A., that’s what made Wal-mart a huge success. But now I don’t think anything is made in the U.S.A. inside that store, not that it matters now that Wal-marts the number one retailer in the world. So we try to shop at Target now and we check the labels to see where products are made, something Id never thought Id do. Unfortunately the Target’s not as close as Wal-mart, there’s not as many, so I still end up at Wal-mart some of the time.

The parks. I was a little upset with the soccer coach because the park on Cedar in Rialto went from looking really good, a clean and safe place for our kids to play, to looking like a city dump. I don’t even want to take my kids there anymore its gotten so bad. Broken glass, cigarette butts, paper, any and all trash you can think of. ugh. disgusting. Such a drastic change in only five years.

Why did I get mad at the soccer coach? Because one of the reasons our parks are so bad is the fact that they have their practice and games there, which is fine, but no one bothers to pick up after themselves! C’mon people, don’t be so nasty. Pick up after yourselves. Are you that lazy?

Schools. Out of the 1,200 Seniors last year at RHS, only 362 graduated. Can you believe that? I asked an administrator at the Rialto School District as to why that happened and he said he doesn’t know why. Ha. Could it have something to do with the fact that there’s 4,300 students attending that school? Out of the 362 that graduated, only 120 went on to a Junior College. Two I think went to a University. 838 out of 1,200 Seniors didn’t graduate last year. Shouldn’t they be concerned about this? I know I am. The atmosphere in that particular school, is not one of learning, its more like a place where 4,300 young people go to hang out. Why? Is this a cultural trait? I know I wasn’t raised to think of school as a hang out, nor do I allow my children to, but what about the other 4,298 students & their parents? What are those parents teaching their kids? Is education even a priority to them?

I hope no one takes this the wrong way, I don’t mean to insult anyone. I’m just curious and trying to figure this out. that’s all.

Anyways, that’s probably why I cant let this damn issue go. Any thoughts?

vanessa: sometimes the politicians who talk about illegal immigration seem to have very little appreciation about what's happening on the street...obama and clinton have more often than not talked about it a problem for the illegal immigrants (that is they are being exploited by unscrupulous employers - true)...republicans often talk about it as a terrorist problem.

all of this suggests to me that many of our elected leaders are out of touch with the day-to-day impact, where the rubber-meets-the-road...thanks for your blog.

Hi Vanessa, It's ironic to think that for the past 20 years or so employers have been looking for cheaper labor because (reason given) they don't believe consumers will pay the higher prices that would support wages for a skilled "native" (meaning not illegal) worker. Think about the "average prices" of items in 1988, compared to now.

How much money have we saved by closing our eyes to employers' use of illegal labor? Seems like the illegal labor might be part of the cause, not part of the solution ! I think I will blog about this.

Oh, and another thing that bugs me is that people who apply through the system to migrate here legally face tons of red tape, waits that are sometimes decades long, and usually are victimized by unscrupulous "immigration lawyers." All because they are playing by the rules.

Hey Moogie, I know exactly what you mean, companies exploit these people, and raised the prices on their products anyways, so were all getting screwed over...but not them. Oh no, they're becoming richer and richer by the day, I on the other hand have been forced to cut down on nutritious foods for my family because like all Americans I know, we are on a budget.
I used to always have the four basics for my children in the fridge on any day: Milk, eggs, cheese and whole wheat bread. Not anymore. Sometimes I don’t have eggs two weeks at a time, has anyone noticed the prices of these items? We have a large family, my husband and I and our five kids, we buy the five dozen box of eggs, it was a good buy at about $5.00...NOT ANYMORE! I pay $9.50 up to $11.00!!!!! for eggs!!! Cheese, we buy the two pound bag of shredded cheese: $7.50!!! Cheese slices (72 count) $10.00!!! Milk, two gallons, 1% fat: $6.00!!! A little less, a little more depending on the store and if they have a sell or not, but that’s the average. Meat, three pounds of ground beef, 4% fat: $9.00!!!
I go to the store just to get basic items and end up spending over a hundred dollars.... easily. Where are MY savings by companies exploiting ALL of us? Ooops my bad, I don’t get to ride that train, do I? What a world we live in where the honest ones are the ones that suffer.

My friend and I always joke about walking into the Social Services office speaking nothing but Spanish and get hooked up! She’s a born citizen, single mom, works, has no insurance & cant get medical or food stamps or section eight, but we know illegal immigrants that get it all!!! They’re never stressed out over paying their bills and drive around in new cars, you know why? Because they live with their baby daddy, he works for cash, doesn’t pay any taxes, & his baby mama gets the hook up because she doesn’t report any of it- so there you have it. Must be nice. I’ll be honest, before I got married to my husband, I did get help, and that moneys getting paid back through my ex, they garnish his wages to recover it all. He’s really cool about it and doesn’t mind. Once I married, my husband is now responsible for my three children, which he doesn’t mind, he loves us…but.…my point: These MEN, are Natural Born Citizens…ok? They take responsibility for their kids, they support not only their children, but me as well WITHOUT any help from anyone. Illegal immigrants? Hard workers huh? Then why do they get hooked up with all those benefits we can’t get? But if this gets any worse, I swear I am. We play by the rules only to get screwed? I don’t think so.
Please write about it Moogie. I wish this bs would end.

One more thing that's been really bugging me. Last year I wrote a post on how our government was granting citizenship to illegal immigrants that signed up in our Armed Forces. I wrote saying that it was wrong of our government to entice these people with promises of citizenship only to get them to fight in the war. DfDeportation (of course) got really pisst off at me saying that it was all BS. Well, four days ago (it took me this long to find out) I was scanning through the CNN website and came across this:

http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2003/iraq/forces/casualties
/

I read the names, looked at the pictures, and I could be wrong, but it looks to me like most of those who have died for their country are either White or Black American Soldiers. I did see pictures of men & women that could be Hispanic, but not nearly as many White or Black Americans. So...where are all the illegal immigrants who supposedly signed up to fight for this country, the country they desperately want to be a citizen of? If anyone knows, please share it with the rest of us.
I've got nothing against anyone, their race, ethnicity, religion, sexual preference, whatever...no problem with anyone- because I respect people based on who they are as a human being, nothing else....AND..I love the TRUTH, I love FACTS and HONESTY from the writer when I read a story. Now I'm not very smart, but I'm not a complete idiot either...so STOP BULL S***ING ME! I really hate that.

Well over 70% of the soldiers who have been killed or injured in this war are...........................WHITE AMERICANS. And La Raza's response? "Recruiters are on High School campus's trying to sign-up the "poor" Latino's just to use them as fodder for this unjust war."

Where are they? They're in the same place with Illegal Aliens who have BUILT this country and contribute MIGHTILY to our economy.......as a figment in some people's imagination!!!

La Raza's not lying...there are recruiters on High Schools in low income Hispanic neighborhoods....I know this is true from personal experience....but....are the students signing up? I thought they where, but apparently they're not. However...my brother-in-law a WHITE AMERICAN just left for boot camp on February 22. So, w t f is going on here? Do not bs me! Lets speak facts, not fantasies. I get so pisst of when someone lies to me. Why lie to me? What’s that going to accomplish? We are not stupid!!! We will figure this out eventually so stop messing with me. damn.

And no, ethnicity or race are NOT of importance to me when I look at someone…BUT lets not live in a fantasy world blinded by lies, bs, and exaggerations either. Culture matters. I don’t care what anyone says. Certain cultures of certain ethnicities are notorious for certain things. Lets be honest about that little fact.

dasvics,

It's not a question of recruiters being on High School campus's. Why is that even questioned? Everyone know's that. The spin from La Raza comes AFTER that fact. Are "poor" latinos used as FODDER? That's the old Communist/Chicano Radical rhetoric of the 60's used for their opposition to the Vietnam War.

I've an idea that some churches have been involved in acquainting the illegals on how to game the system. Some may not like to hear it though.

That brings me to another gripe I have, about churches being tax exempt. I do not think that is right or necessary in this day and age. Some may not like that idea, but I do think there should be a distinction drawn between a true church that serves at the grass roots level, and one that is able to provide a Bentley with driver to its chief executive. Er, I mean minister.

At some point, it seems not to be a church anymore, but an entertainment complex. But hey, microphones in church still shock me.

Maybe we can have ARMY recruiters go to the churches to get those "poor" latino boys for military service (fodder)?

Yet another excellent point Moogie. I can not stand churches anymore. I believe in God, the Bible, Jesus, but I will not go to any church or give them a dime of my money. I've asked my dad & many others, what justification the Chief Executive/Minister has in living such a lavish lifestyle when there’s so many people that need food & clothing among other things? You know what they tell me? this is rich:

"Church leaders are blessed. God wants them to have all those things and comforts because of their service to the Lord"

LMAO!!! Well goodie. How nice of the Lord to be so generous. But, wasn’t Jesus the King of Kings? I don’t know what Bible they're reading, but the one I read, New King James Version, NOT once mentions Jesus living a "comfortable" or lavish lifestyle.
Microphones???? ha ha....thats nothing..how about ME giving My 10% so that my fellow brothers & sisters can have state of the art soft, comfy chairs, you know cause the Lord wants you to be completely comfortable while worshiping him. LMAO. please! I'm surprised they dont ask me for more money so they can have built in massage mechanisms in their state of the art soft & comfy chairs. Oh, & don’t forget the Air-conditioning ..yeah, the Lord hates it when his flock is too hot to worship.

don't look for the church to do anything those people crossing our southern borders are all catholic..screw cardinal Mahoney and that whole crew ..i wonder how they would feel if all those breaking into our country were Jewish..the Catholic church dose not give damn about nothing but the all mighty dollar that is..its time to tax these so called churches ..they should be brought up on RICO charges for gambling and extortion and sex crimes and if you take into concideration what they did or didnt do during world war two throw in crimes against humanity as well ..

I’m a little upset right now because yet another store, an Albertsons is now a Fiesta Foods. The only one left that would be somewhat close to me. WHY???? What is the reason for all these American grocery stores being replaced by Mexican ones? Who owns Fiesta Foods anyways? I hate that store!!! It stinks so bad that every time we pass by it (the one on Mill St. & Mt. Vernon in Colton)we have to roll our windows up. I don’t know what the heck they do that makes an entire block reek. On some days you cant smell anything, but on others ...eeewwwww..its disgusting.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening? I want to shop at grocery stores that carry the items I want. And I don’t want to speak Spanish in order to ask a question, or listen to Spanish music. That annoys me, I thought the stores easy listening elevator music was bad, now this????

If I want to live in Mexico or any other Spanish speaking country with a Latin/Hispanic culture...guess what? I'LL MOVE THERE!!!! BUT STOP TURNING MY CITY INTO ONE!!!

Fiesta Foods is owned and operated by a Cuban born immigrant and his family. The chain is projecting to open two or three stores per years and has aspirations to be the largest Hispanic catering grocery chain in the United States. They began their journey in Florida, have one store in the mid-west I believe and some independently owned franchise stores.

Maybe the ones that you say smell so bad are the franchise stores, kind of like franchise eateries, you don't get the same service that you do at a corporate store.
