Just wanted to send out a [...] to the execs at FOX for deciding to show Jessica Simpson's boyfriend play football instead of the Chargers. SD is the only team close to LA and has the most dynamic player in the game (LT) but still get bumped for what barely amounts to football and is closer to Newlyweds 2, Tony and Jessica. I really don't appreciate waiting 8 months for the season to start and then being subjected to dozens of camera shots of Jessica in her pink Cowboys hat. What a joke...FOX LA, you suck.

Do you miss Jeff Kent? I'm sure Vin Scully doesn't!! And if you're a Dodgers fan, you probably don't either. It wasn't long after Kent was quoted as saying that Scully talks too much that he ended up on the disabled list, then under the knife. Is that bad kharma? Kent had knee surgery and still has a chance to make it back to the team before the playoffs start. But at this rate they probably don't need him. Blake DeWitt is doing just fine at 2nd base, and the team seems to be doing just fine without Kent in the clubhouse.
Odds are he won't be back in 2009, I just hope he doesn't end up in Pittsburgh!!

Talk about a sore loser, Dodgers took the lead at tonights game, taking it home at the D-Backs home 8-1, so what happens next? A D-Back is up to bat, breaks the bat with what seems to be an angering focre, just missing our Dodgers Pitcher with the flying end.
Its o.k. to lose sometimes Arizona, don't be mad.

What a bummer, I did to. I barely heard of it right now, and it did sound like a night that would have been fun just to experience.
On August 29th the L.A. Dodgers hosted a sleep over where fans would take their sleeping bags and watch the game on the BIG SREEN, how cool. After the game you were able to play catch on the field, and later they showed some movie, I don't know what though. It was $200 per adult and $100 per child, but they had a family deal for $500, which isn't so bad if your a fan. Then, in the morning they even served breakfast, I don't even get served breakfast at home so you know I'm jealous.
I love to do things that are nice stories to look back on. It's said to be their 3rd year hosting this 'Sleep Over' so that means I am going to be looking out for next years advertising. If it seems like an event you'd like to take your children to, I suggest you keep an ear out like myself.
Hey, you never know, maybe next year I'll be blogging out it again, hopefully on time to.

Major league baseball has instituted instant replay. I find this to be a good idea. Baseball diamonds are vast and the four umpires who have to cover all that ground have a tough job.
There have been home runs ruled doubles and doubles ruled home runs since the beginning of baseball in the 1800's. By using instant replay, umpires will be able to correct their mistakes without totally taking out the human element to judging the game. TAKE ANOTHER LOOK.
We will still have to rely on umpires eyes when it comes to balls and strikes and plays on the bases.
There are critics of this new rule. Can't say I blame 'em.
Imagine having a camera on you at your job all day. While your doing your accounting the boss brings you into the office to correct your work. Or what if fixing pipes is your job and a camera watched as you replaced an elbow joint under somebody's sink. The boss watches the tape and then calls you up to tell you to do it again.
WELCOME TO MY WORLD!!!
That's how we roll in t.v. news! Every newscast we do is recorded. If the boss doesn't like something...he doesn't hesitate to let us know we didn't do the job right. Only in our case we can't correct the problem until the next newscast.
Now that I think about it....
The umps have a another reason to be grumpy!!!

Ok, so Major League Baseball is going to start using instant replay on Thursday. Is this a good thing? I'm not sure yet. We'll have to wait and see. I like the fact that the umpires are willing to make the right call when it comes to questionable home runs.. but with a lot of people already complaining about how long the games are, will adding an instant replay, in which the game must stop to watch the video, drag it along even more?
The League claims they will limit the reviews to 2 minutes. But if there a few in every game, the time will add up quickly! Either way, we'll have to wait to see if it helps baseball or hurts it.
So far I'm in favor it.. but after further review.................

I have to admit...I get caught up in fantasy sports on occasion. Used to love it in the 80's when it was more of a neighborhood game. Now with the internet, like a lot of things, fantasy sports have flourished.
For those of you who don't know what fantasy sports are here's a quick lesson. You join a league that allows you to draft pro players in a sport as if you were the owner of a team. Then you compete with other owners in the league with your players stats matching up against your opponents. In other words you can own a professional team without coming up with several million dollars. For anyone who has participated you know it can be addictive.
To some it's a sickness. Here's why....
Most sports fans have a favorite team. Now let's say your fantasy team has a player competing against your favorite team. Here's what happened to me recently...
My fantasy team needed a few home runs with one more day to go in my competition. And there steps up my best home run hitter against my favorite team. Now my favorite team is in the middle of a pennant race. My hitter steps up to the plate with a runner on first and two outs in the bottom of the 9th. My favorite team is winning 5-3.. The count shows two strikes. So my favorite team is one strike away from moving into a tie for first place when my fantasy hitter hits a deep drive to left field. That ball is gone!!! I am both ecstatic and depressed. The game is tied. But I got my home run. Now I love competition so much that I am almost willing to win a fantasy league at the cost of my team making the playoffs. Almost!
But here's the good news. My favorite team hit a game winning home run in the 9th so I had the best of both worlds. I tell me wife at the beginning of every league that I can't take the drama anymore and hate cheering against my favorite team. For some reason she doesn't believe that I'll quit.
By the way I just got into the NFL draft for fantasy football.
There must be therapists around the country whose business picks up thanks to fantasy sports. If not....WE SURE NEED HELP!

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the Olympics. Great drama, great excitement, great athletic heroes. But I have a problem. I can't watch anything "live". By the time NBC gets around to airing an event, I've heard who won. Some events take place in the wee hours of the morning, we don't see it until late at night.. almost 12 hours later! So of course, we've heard and/or read who won. Watching an event on tape simply takes the fun out of it for me.
But, I'll keep watching!!

I can't stand when people pluralize the names of individuals to make a point or a comparison. You hear it all the time from sports analysts and reporters, i.e.:
"He's got to develop a better outside shot if he wants to be mentioned with the Kobes, the LeBrons, the Chris Pauls of the world as an elite NBA player."
HUH???!! What the hell is that? There are not multiple "Kobes," there is only one guy. Why do you need to pluralize them when you say this? Wouldn't it be equally effective just to say "If he wants to be mentioned along with Kobe, LeBron and the elite players of the NBA, yada, yada..." ??
I don't know who started this ridiculous trend among sports media "professionals" but it makes no sense and needs to stop.

UNFORTUNATE or SELFISH?
It's great to be alive, especially if you are a sporting nut or simply someone who marvels in sports. The last decade has provided us with memorable sports records that have been overcome, afterall records are made to be broken, right? Even better, two records have fallen with epic force. One very much in the public eye for decades, the other, back in the public eye after a four year absence. Equally great in their respective sports. Equally scrutinized. Equally victimized. Equally tainted. Barry Bonds broke Hank Aaron's home record in front of a sold out Giants, but not in front of Aaron. Michael Phelps broke Mark Spitz recored of seven gold medals in one Olympics in front of arguably the most vivacious Olympic crowd ever, but not in front of Mark Spitz. One (Aaron) received an invite, and the other (Spitz) did not. Although a well timed video congratulations from Aaron aired after Bonds' record hitting home run was perceived as a gesture of true praise it still was void of what the presence of Aaron would have meant , be it controversial, but still historical accomplishment. Even Aaron wanted to make sure that his absence (said to be because of the contorversy of steroids use surrounding Bonds)did not overshadow Bonds' accomplishments. But it did. For Baseball the home run record is the holy grail of records. A year later, another epic performance goes unwitnessed by the one who held the record for 36 years. Nothing is a guarantee. You still have to invite the guy. The United States Olympic Committee did not. You say, "What?? Undoubtedly the man who held onto the greatest olympic feat of all time did not even get an invite. Shows, what have you done for me lately takes a front row seat. Spitz, is an Olympic icon. He deserved a front row seat to witness the greatest Olympic performance to date! It is unknown why Spitz did not pay his own way (there were family events going on in Detroit, MI) and it is unknown why Aaron didn't accept a ticket. In their own way, they used their absence to get their own message across. Unfortunate.

The sport's world is so focused on testing the athletes at the 2008 Summer Olympics in China. You cannot go a day without hearing about what organizers are doing to catch dopers at the Olympic Games. We know athletes are trying to use drugs or illegal supplements to enhance their performance. This shouldn't be a surprise to us. Neither should the oldest form of athletic cheating, lying about your age. But, we are either stunned or don't care. Did you really beleive when you first saw the Chinese women's gymnnastics team that they are a women's team? They are barely teenagers, some of them, and futher investigation is shedding light on the true ages, in some cases as young as 12. Who's fooling who? It started on day one. China stages the firework show - and NBC tried to make us believe otherwise, finally letting let us know days later that it was staged - or parts of it were. In some sports, getting an age advantage is very beneficial, you don't see 12 year old boys vaulting or working the horse, do you? How can you get into the Olympics at a country that is trying to stage everything? Today China arrested some protestors and stated they would deport them - when they really wanted to imprison them for 100 years for speaking out. China had an opportunity to show the world that it could be compassionate towards human rights and towards the basic virtues of living human beings. Instead, it looks like a time warp back to 1980 when Russia and China dominated a Summer Olympics not attended by the United States of America. What's the difference? There isn't many. Even the TV coverage is made for Prime-time tape delay. Staged, for ratings. The special thing about the Olympics, is it is supposed to be the purest of world competition, free of political influence, free of undue influence. Set aside most of the really good sports achievments, and take a look at what the Olympics has been for the last eight Olympiads. China can take pride in hiding behind their wall, paying people to be in the stands, allowing cheating on the world stage. They haven't come very far from 1980, but they sure want us to believe they have.

He might be as dominant or maybe even more dominant in his sport than Tiger Woods.. and I thought I'd never be able to say that about anyone!
Phelps now has the most gold medals in Olympic history and now he has his eyes set on winning 8 Gold Medals, which would break the all-time record held by Mark Spitz. Having Phelps involved in this year's Olympic Games has certainly drawn a lot of attention.. almost everyone is watching as he continues to amaze everyone..

So, now that I am displaced from LA....I resort to find my way in a new home. I am now a Texan. Finally, I move to a place that has a respect for baseball. Growing up in LA, I remember going to the Dodger's games and having near perfect weather to play baseball myself. I am also the person who WATCHES it on TV! Yes, I enjoy baseball!
Here in this part of Texas, I have to find my way to Arlington on Wednesday nights to take advantage of half price tickets, $1 hotdogs, and 99-degree heat to enjoy 9 innings of the Texas Rangers. So far this summer I have attended three games-against Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Indians, and my hometown favorites, LA Angels...(I'm sorry, is that correct? Not the Anaheim or OC Angels? LOL).
A H.S. class mate plays for the Rangers, who used to play for the Dodgers, Oakland A's, and Cleveland Indians. Hmm? Can you figure out this 'boardgame' named player?
I am so glad that the season is here and yet, coming to a quick close. I urge you all to take advantage of the convenience and luxury of having a ball game near by! Stand up, sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame during the 7th inning stretch...and don't be a party pooper as I am and not do the wave...just do it!
Scream for your favorite team...dare to catch the ball if it comes your direction...kiss someone on the amitron-even if it isn't the one you are with--well, maybe that is going too far...but help out the athletes who play the longest seasons!
What do you enjoy most about Baseball?

TV cowboy Roy Rogers used to end his programs with the song "Happy Trails to You". Second guessing a decision can lead us onto trails we'd rather not travel. Brett's bid to re-enter professional football has sidelined him on a rocky path; not only is he out of the NFL, he will report to the locker room of a rather pitiful team. Good luck, Brett, "until we meet again." And may all your future choices be wiser.

I am totally upset by the way the Packers have treated Brett Favre, from reliable sources I have been informed that TT of the Packers ever since he became GM has harassed Brett to retire. Everybody has the impression he was wishwashy about retiring. In March he made him retire, that is why he was crying so much, he did not want to retire. He was not given a choice. I believe Brett when he says TT has been lying. Brett and his family are strict catholics. All summer they have been telling him that Rogers was their man, not to try to get back on the team. When TT says he was in Miss. the end of March to get him to come back it is a fat lie, He was done there for a manager convention or meeting. If they wanted him back so badly why did they want to retire his number in the first game and why were they shipping down his locker. They did not encourage him to resinstate himself and when he got to the stadium on Sun. night they told him he could not go into the locker room. I think the Packer organization should fire TT. What is the executive committee there for, just to get a fat paycheck. Murphy is brainwashed to TT's thinking and McCarthy is afraid of losing his job. I'll bet Wolf and Harlan are very upset with these events. Brett's friend Steve Mariucci was upset when he was in a meeting for 6 hrs. Mon. night. Steve agrees with Brett's comments, so does the NFL and Espn Networks. Green Bay and the Packer organization are the laughing stock of the whole world. If they would do this to a player of Brett's stature, what chance does any other player have in the same position. TT has never wanted Brett to be the starting QB because he is Wolf and Harlans prodegy. He wants to make a name for himself with Rodgers. I think Rogers is injury prone and will not last the year. I have been a Pack fan since Vince Lombardi started have never missed a game. I am no longer a fan, will not go to any games. I am going to try to watch all Bretts games on NFL channel. I think you are going to find a lot of your so called fans feeling the same way.

I was sad to hear that Favre would not be returning to "Title Town", but the Pack must move on at some point and if this is it then this is it. I think the entire situation was made into more of a deal than what was really truely necessary. I have watched football my entire life, (my dad used to coach high school football). I can remember my parents faithfully watching the Pack before Favre, sometimes they would cheer and sometimes the game would get turned off. However when Favre joined the Packers is when the attitude changed during the entire Packer's season. My Grandparents attended the Ice Bowl and I have been fortunate enough to have been able to go to many games, because they were season ticket holders and now my parents are. Favre was something special shared between generations and now that is over. It is like having a death in the family, but we will always have the memories and new ones will be made. I have complete faith that we will become a great team again with a new "leader" to take us to another Super Bowl. I wish Favre luck, but I will never cheer for any other team, but the Packers.

Have you caught Mania-Fever yet??!! If not, you will. This guy named Manny Ramirez is amazing. He is the best thing the Dodgers have done in a long, long time!
He comes to L.A. and immediately makes a difference. Not only did he hit 2 home runs in his first series with the Dodgers, but the Dodgers say they quickly sold 11,000 tickets for his first game and over 30,000 tickets for his first series. They say over $1250,000 worth of Manny merchandise has been purchased and when they start selling Manny dreadlocks, look out!
Manny is good enough to carry the Dodgers on his shoulders and into the postseason.. then we'll have to wait and see if he'll stay after the season ends..
Oh, yeah, the only time I see Manny struggling this year is when the Dodgers go to Pittsburgh in September!!

I was looking up the upcoming promotional schedule for the Dodgers and noticed there is only one more bobblehead giveaway scheduled for the remainder of the season. Two Fridays ago they were giving away Brad Penny bobbleheads which I can understand as he is one of the Dodgers high priced star players even though he has been hurt all year and contributed absolutely nothing to the team. Production on the field is not a prerequisite for obtaining bobblehead status; I have bobbleheads of Tony Tarasco and Chris Mihm so this is proof.
Where I was shocked, startled and then troubled was reading the August 12th promotion of Joe Beimel bobblehead night. Joe Beimel? A middle relief pitcher? I started thinking about more deserving players on the current Dodger roster of a bobblehead that have yet to have the honor bestowed upon them: Chad Billingsley, Matt Kemp, James Loney, Andre Either, Jonathon Broxton, heck even Andrew Jones is more deserving for the mere fact that he was a all star player at one time in this league; but Joe Beimel. How many season ticket holders would even know what position Joe Beimel plays for the Dodgers? I guess only half. The funnier part about this is the fans voted for this. Who the heck was Joe Beimel going against in this poll? Frank McCourt? Ned Colletti? Brian Falkenborg? Usama Bin Laden? That is the only line of reasoning I could come up as to why Joe Beimel received the fan vote for bobblehead night; by default. I then thought of other unlikely and unknown people or objects that should be honored by having a bobblehead likeness created for them since Joe Beimel has set the precedence of the obscure, unknown and forgotten.
LaTavia Roberson Bobblehead Night...
early member of Destiny's Child that was later exiled.
Black Vulcan Bobblehead Night...
the only black member of the Super Friends...didn't reach the popularity of Superman, Batman or even Aquaman...many believe the "Whiteman" was holding him down.
Lower Back Bobblehead Night....Does anybody ever really wash this part of their body?..you cant reach it and most people don't give it a second thought.
R.C. Cola Bobblehead Night....
This was great soda and an amazing value. I only see this soda in cheap inner city supermarkets and never the big vending machines.
NGV (Natrual Gas Vehicle) Bobblehead Night...
what dork still drives this type of vehicle?...Doesn't the drive to one of these hard to find stations make it ridiculously inconvenient? Also, while reducing the harmful toxins in our atmosphere and contributing to the reduction of our dependence on oil is great you really can't look cool driving one of these vehicles with the NGV decals on them. It was a spectacular trade that the Dodgers pulled off just before the trading deadline. Question is will anyone feel that way at the end of the season. I think if the Dodgers make to the post season then the answer is YES. But there is a reason the Boston Red Sox would trade one of their most popular and best players. And there may be fire where there was smoke in the Sox locker room when there were reports veterans of the team wanted to see Manny go. He's colorful, talented (a 12 time all-star with over 500 homers) but also a pain! If the lazy Manny shows up to the park who doesn't run out ground balls to first. Or the one who jogs after fly balls in the outfield. Then there could be fireworks in no time in the Dodgers locker room. There's a grumpy future hall of famer in there by the name of Jeff Kent who won't stand for it for a minute. And when all is said and done Manny will be a free agent. Will he remain a Dodger? I wouldn't count on it knowing how his agent Scot Boras works. On the other hand...if the Dodgers make a great playoff run, since the investment for Manny was small, then the Dodgers could wind up geniuses. You will either love him or love to hate him when "Manny starts being Manny".

Many experts have said that the Angels have the best pitching, great defense, great speed, but they need one more big bat to win it all.

Well, they're hoping First Baseman Mark Teixeira is the answer.
The way they've been playing lately, you might not think they needed another bat and Casey Kotchman has been heating up.
What do you think? Is this the right thing to do? Will it secure a championship for the Halos? Or did they give up too soon on the promising Kotchman? Could they have won it all without this trade?

I remember a few years ago when for some reason the team got the bright idea to cut down on the grilled dogs. There was almost an uprising. They quickly brought the grills back and all was fine. Today, many stadiums have what they call gourmet stadium food. Or perhaps you've seen your favorite chain. But at the end of the day the Dodger Dog is still king with me. Not a whole lot of offense, but the game had some great plays. A lot of pitchers found a lot of ways to get out of some major jams and keep the game going.
Then there was Dan Uggla. Poor Dan Uggla. Making 3 errors and striking out in crucial times. He'll have to live with that for the rest of his life.
A lot of people felt there weren't enough big names playing, but I enjoyed it!!
Can't wait for next year!!

He's retiring...he's not...he wants to stay in Green Bay...the team is moving on..oh the drama! I think few doubt Favre still has what it takes to start in the NFL. Sure, he fell short in his return to the Super Bowl, but this guy is tough. But, that's not the issue. He told his beloved cheeseheads he was hanging up the cleats and they told him they'd hang up his jersey to honor one of the best..a future hall of famer for sure. He had time to change his mind...but now...after the Pack decided to go to move on in the post-Favre era. I can understand why the team doesn't want Bret AND why they don't want him going anywhere else. Is there still a chance we might see Bret don the green and yellow and run onto Lambeau Field. Yes, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I'm sure he and the Pack will work out something. Personally..I would've loved to see him play one more year. However, I respected his initial decision to retire for the reasons he gave. And now.....

Why wasn't the general public made aware of all the goings on, as they were going on. It now sounds like Ted Thompson is trying to hide the facts. If anybody needs to leave, it is Ted Thompson. It may seem like he knows what he is doing...but obviously he does not. Brett Favre needs to be allowed to come back as starting quarterback. You can bet I will be at the rallies on Sundays, wearing my number 4 jersery. Hey Ted, listen to the Packer Fans. The Packers would be nothing without the fans!!!

I hate Scrabble two-letter words. Hate, hate, hate. (I know that's strong to say, but, oy, do I dislike them.)
There are real two-letter words such as me, to, is, do...and, okay, oy. But mm, hm, ae, qi and za? Who's makin' this stuff up?
I can't play this game. I hate losing to people who use these typographical terrors that don't exist in our everyday language. When was the last time you used "ae" in a sentence? (According to the Scrabble dictionary, ae means "one.")
Have you ever heard anyone say...
"Wow, you're the ae for me."
Or, "We're number ae!"
I want to ban them all! Who says "za" instead of pizza? Who knew that "qi" was a Chinese vital force? We say "hm" and "mm" when we're talking, but should they really win a Scrabble game?
Sigh.
It's a battle I'm not winning. Scrabble dictionaries are everywhere. I guess I better start studying the list of 101 Scrabble-approved two-letter words. Hm.
Anyway, may the best ae win.

Let it go Brett!
You have been the poster boy for class the past 17 years in the NFL. Your teammates admired you. Your opponents respected you and your fans loved you. When you bid a tearful good bye last March football fans came to grips with the fact they would never see your gritty play again. After all Brett we thought you might retire two seasons earlier. At the end of the 2006 season you made it sound like you were done. You have nothing left to prove. You have a super bowl ring. You have shattered records. And now you may be breaking hearts!
Why did you ask the Packers to give you your unconditional release? They are now damned if they do,,,damned if they don't! If they allow you to come back for another season at the age of 38 then your understudy Aaron Rodgers will be forced to watch his 5th season from the bench. Sports is steeped with the not so rich tradition of superstars fighting one too many fight (Ali), Playing one too many games (Mays,Jordan) and being practically embarrassed doing it.
If the Packers release you... their fiercest rivals could sign you and rub it in the face of the team that has cherished you, paid you well and treated you with the ultimate respect. Go away Brett.
Ride off into the sunset with your head held high. That's how we want to remember you!

If I was a Clippers fan, I'd be upset!! I mean one day Elton Brand says he'd like to return to the Clippers and play with Baron Davis, then the next day he packs up his things and heads east, to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers. What happened? Sounds like his agent, David Falk didn't get along with Clippers owner Donald Sterling over the past couple of weeks and according to Falk they decided to go to the Sixers once Brand was offered a "take it or leave it" contract. Either way the Clippers just can't win. It seems that things like this always happen to them. And for whatever reason, the Clippers will always play in the shadow of their roommates, the Lakers.

I had no idea I was going to be flying on a trapeze Tuesday morning.
I guess you could say I was given some notice... if you count waking up in the morning at 2:30am and calling the desk while half-asleep to ask what story I would be covering that day.
Drake on the other line, "Oh! Good thing you called."
I can't remember verbatim, but it was along the lines of, find
