EXECUTIVE PRIVILEGE - RIP OFF THE TAXPAYER ?

More unfunny comedy from the US Government

ABC NEWS -

The US military has awarded an $80 million contract to a prominent Saudi financier who has been indicted by the US Justice Department. The contract to supply jet fuel to American bases in Afghanistan was awarded to the Attock Refinery Ltd, a Pakistani-based refinery owned by Gaith Pharaon. Pharaon is wanted in connection with his alleged role at the failed Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), and the CenTrust savings and loan scandal, which cost US tax payers $1.7 billion.

The Saudi businessman was also named in a 2002 French parliamentary report as having links to informal money transfer networks called hawala, known to be used by traders and terrorists, including Al Qaeda.

Interestingly, Pharaon was also an investor in President George W. Bush's first business venture, Arbusto Energy.

A spokesman for the FBI said Pharaon was not wanted in connection with the French report, but confirmed he was still sought by the US Justice Department.

This is sad. We are giving government contracts to a company owned by a wanted US fugitive. Is the entire Bush Administration sleeping again? Where is the outrage from the Law and Order people? I am sure that there is a law that says that you cannot deal with companies that are headed by US fugitives. Oh wait, maybe that is more executive privilege because he knows the President. I forget, that if you know the President, you can claim executive privilege anytime you want.

ahhhh castey, did you bother to research this before you posted? evidently NOT!

the $1.7 billion referred to is CenTrust Bank, which failed in the 90's due to David Paul (the bank CEO) and his practices. He's been convicted & sentenced. Only David Paul, no one else.

Ghaith Pharaon (the guy they are referring to up there) was a shareholder. Yes, he was deemed to be a "fugitive" during the trial process by stupid, greedy prosecutors. The high court then reversed this decision in 1995. Pharaon was sued on a civil basis for the losses that David Paul & ONLY David Paul caused. The RTC & FDIC lost this whole thing.........from the start. It was ONLY David Paul........

""the dismissal of a civil action on fugitive disentitlement grounds requires that (1) the plaintiff is a fugitive; (2) his fugitive status has a connection to his civil action; and (3) the sanction employed by the district court, dismissal, is necessary to effectuate the concerns underlying the fugitive disentitlement doctrine." The US Justice Department wasn't even remotely a part of this whole scene.

Pharaon is absolutely NOT funding Al Queda or any other crazy fascist terrorist group. There is absolutely NO trace of this......

castey, this is baloney. if you didn't know it before, you know it now. it's called research.

but then again, no one but you, PB & gorbash are crazy enough to 1) believe this kind of [...] and 2) post this kind of [...] without making sure it is true FIRST

Gaith Pharaon

* David Leigh and Rob Evans
* guardian.co.uk,

* Article history

Gaith Pharaon is an international fugitive who has been wanted by the FBI for 15 years. The FBI accuses the Saudi millionaire of fraud "involving millions of dollars" in the case of the Bank of Commerce and Credit International.

BCCI collapsed in 1991 in one of the world's worst financial scandals, embracing money laundering, arms dealing, bribery, tax evasion and much more.

According to the FBI, the cigar-smoking financier "travels worldwide, often on his yacht, Le Pharaon". The FBI's wanted notice is here.

In 1995 a US judge ordered Pharaon to give up $102m of his assets for his role in the BCCI fraud. He is alleged to have acted as the frontman for BCCI to acquire illegal stakes in American banks [document].

Here`s a little more "research" for you.

Indicted Saudi gets $80 million US contract

ABC News reports on the humorous story of Gaith Pharaon, a Saudi financier who is wanted by the FBI for alleged bank fraud that cost US taxpayer $1.7 billion. The funny part is that the US military just awarded him an $80 million contract to supply jet fuel to US military bases in Afghanistan.

As a purely coincidental aside: "Pharaon was also an investor in President George W. Bush's first business venture, Arbusto Ener

Note the date......Note that he was awarded a $80 Million Dollar contract by our` military.
Is this not a repeat of scuz-bags with connections being awarded contracts because they have connections ?......Come on, now !

Hmmm...and who was in control in Congress at least until 1994? Guess it was the Democrats. And who was the Presidents during that time...Moderate Republican George H.W. Bush and Democrat Bill Clinton. Now, if only one person was involved in a situation like a failed bank they why would you go and imply other people to prove a point?

Does not the buck stop in the Oval Office ?

Fairy tails and Peter Pan have been the norm for 7 1/2 years now. You`re not used to not being a member of Capt. Hook`s crew yet ?

Silly me, I thought Captain Hook was Sparky Anderson! The only reason why we almost never pin the problems of the US on Congress is because of Harry Truman's declaration of "The Buck Stops Here". However it's easier for the media to blast the person in charge than to blast the career politicians in Congress. What's wrong with America is the career politicians that build a huge government that its almost impossible to dismantle. I don't vote for people who want to keep feeding the monster with MY MONEY.

These conservatives who claim to be against "big government" are the ones who gave us the Iraq mess which will cost over 4 trillion dollars by the end of next year according to the Congressional Budget Office!

These fools cannot be trusted with how to spend our money! Conservatives want to cut domestic programs, so we can waste them in foolish and immoral invasions and occupationf os Middle Eastern countries!

"Are there any candidates up for election that are NOT a part of this machine ?" castey, NOPE not a one. they are enjoying the fruits of that labor wayyyyyy too much.

funny gorbash, the fools who voted to go to war were democrats as well as republicans........i believe 98% of congress voted YES!

so by your arguement, they are ALL fools........which they are, including your massiah obama. i think he is the biggest fool of them all, or the sliest fox in the henhouse.

can't decide which yet...we know he is naive & stupid (or is he? maybe he's pretending), we know he is severely inexperienced (but then again, he has experience with the black theology & making sure the black people stay dependent on the government so HE can pat himself on the back), we know he didn't bother to serve his country (but he damn sure served himself), and we ALL know he is a liar & a panderer.............just like all the other "fools" in congress........

Congress may have voted High in the percentage of votes in agreement to go into Iraq. However, the information Congress received in order to make those voting decisions were all based on Lies manufactured by the Bush & Co. Machine. In addition, Bush made it very clear in the begging when Congress was informed of George Bush's intent to invade Iraq regardless of Congress votes, The President can override and go to war regardless, with or without congressional approval or not. Bush was clear in the beginning; He was going to war with or without Congressional or United Nations approval! Rumsfeld, Giuliani and rest of the rating whores were all standing in line behind George Bush for their opportunity and all irresistible spot in the limelight; assuming it was a future free ride back into or upgraded office position come voting season.
Bottom line, the statement the high percentage congressional votes in favor for the War in Iraq were based on bad Bush Intel and Lies. My sister was in Iraq early on right after 911; her first tour was for 18 months. She came home for a year and was sent back a second time. My sister never made it home along with two of her unit members. My sister Sue and her unit members Carl, Vito and Bill were all killed by non enemy friendly fire in Iraq on May 9th of 2005 the same day as our father’s birthday.

castey, again NONE of us know what was lies, and what was just bad information. ya, scott mcclellan wrote some book........but he can't be taken seriously.

you all seem to have forgotten that guy in Germany who admitted that he manufactured MOST of that information for his OWN benefit.......and then the intelligence agencies passed this info along the chain of command.......

they were ALL lied to, including Bush & Cheney.

of course, it's always possible that all that info was true and saddam moved all that [...] to Iran or Syria. we DID give him 30 days notice that we were coming.

NONE of us KNOW what was true & what wasn't.
