BOBBY D'S BLOG

Just last weekend I had a power outage during one of those very hot days.  No airconditioning, no lights, and even worse... no t.v.!  It was unbelievably quiet.  The only thing I could hear was my dog panting and battery operated clocks ticking.  It got me thinking... if this was a disaster would I be prepared?

Sadly the answer is probably not prepared enough.  I had one flashlight, but no spare batteries.  No stored water or food!  No cash!

Seismologists say "the Big one" will happen within the next 30 years.  They say it would be as large as the China earthquake.  And look at all the other phenomena we've had here.  Tornadoes in the Moreno Valley?  Flash floods in Sierra Madre?

Am I overreacting?  Are you prepared?

Bobby D.:

You might want a generator and also a backup battery unit for your computers and electronics at home. I have a unit in which I have a computer and television set hooked up, just in case.

while real estate prices are down and sure to go up buy a house get earthquake insurance then rent it out and move to a safe place then wait it out...OK its its a stupid idea..but did you think you would be paying 4.00 a gallon for gas?

Has anyone ever told you that your smile in contagious? As for being prepared, what does it matter? If we had another disaster, I know for sure what to expect...another debate on "what could of been done to prevent this."

naw, you're not over reacting. it's always good to be prepared. one thing to remember though. 40 years ago the experts were saying the big one would hit in 10, 20, 30 years... take your pick. thing is, no one truly knows when or even if the "big one" will hit. it's still just guesswork.

Emergency Preparedness is something that we all should make a priority. In fact my company specializes in just that. You should have an emergency kit in your home, office and your car. Oh, lets not forget Fido. your pet needs one as well. You never know where you will be or what you will be doing if disaster should strike. if you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at corey@thm-llc.net and I will do my best to answer your questions.

Bobby you raise some excelent questions and give alot of food for thought. I dont believe that any of us are as prepared as we would like to believe. I was so relieved to see your blog and given that it is No. 1 on the blog postings is a good thing. Keep up the good work and I hope to see a series on Emergency Preparedness. Bobby D. and Fox 11 is to be commended on their efforts to prepare our community!! Thank You All!!

i'm totally screwed if a earthquake hits. well atleast a really big one. i remember the last quake we had, it wasn't all that big, but i remember a electrical pole outside was already shooting sparks. well their is a tree and dry grass in that area which is right next to my place. all i'm thinking is that pole is gonna fall on my house, and start a fire. maybe i can prevent the fire, but not the falling electrical pole. but i'm thinking my home is just gonna split in 1/2. i dont know why, but that's what i'm guessing. i'm so screwed.
