Having worked for a comvience store chain , for 12 years, in management, these robberys, and killings, really bother me. I have had a gun in my face.

The ideas that the Dallas police have come up with are wonderful, and should have been in place long ago, by any convience store.

I also think the penalties, for these robberys should be more than what they are.

I spoke out, for years, for night time pay windows, at all our 24 hr stores, and also 2 employees on staff, on each shift.

I still live very close to one of the stores I managed, and am always, watching out for the employees there.

I think all ATMS should be placed in the back of the stores, and emptied at night.

All convience stores open 24 hours should have a pay thru window, with bullet proof glass at that window.

Cameras should be everywhere,  inside and outside, at the pumps, which many of the stores, I know of don't have.

The panic buttons are good, but there should be a direct connection to the police in whatever city the store is in.

I also think that hoodies, sunglasses, and back packs should be removed, like many of the banks have now.

All our employees went thru training for what to do during a robbery. The biggest point made, was do not leave the store. If someone takes you at gunpoint they will more than likely kill you, after leaving the store. It is a sad fact.

I also tried to make my employees understand that, what was in the store wasn't worth their life, let the culprits have what they want.

Even with all these things in place, you still have the thugs that just don't care.

Most of all if You are a regular customer, watch out for the people that serve you.

I agree with you about the 24 hour stores. I remember seeing a KFC where they had three inch bullet proof glass and turn stiles for the food and money, it freaked me out whne I saw this but know it was justified. Most stores don't have these cameras and things in place because security is so expensive.I don't see how you did it for twelve years, I couldn't do it

My step-daughter runs a convenience store in Azel and it scares the [...] outta me. My ol man ran a couple back in the day and was robbed at least 5 times.

I call them Stop N Robs. Employment in a convenience store is dangerous.

I agree that 2 people should be employed at one time on any shift, one of them armed and perhaps hiding.

With some criminals they don't care if you cooperate or not, they will kill you because they fear getting caught. That woman that was just kidnapped, raped and murdered is an example.

Were it me, I'd have killed the guy that did it on the spot, the filthy scumbag.

My cousin started working in a 7-11, probably 30 yrs ago, ... she was murdered before she had even been there 2 months. They put her on nights working by herself...the next morning she was found dead in the alley.

That's too bad, TM. My ex wanted to work at one when we lived in Orlando and I said hell no!

Well, after we split she did work at one part time for about 3 months, then quit. She told me it was rife with pervs coming in all the time, and drunks.

Just for the record I never lived in Orlando...It is highly dangerous work. I work graveyard and am outside for the most part. Some stores you can walk into some you cannot. They are such targets.I usually go into the Walgreens or cvs if 24 hr,mainly because they are cheaper than 7-11.Falsely feel safer as well

I never felt afraid. Most of the customers are regulars. The point is being aware of your surroundings, even the customers can help by noticing what's going on. I have had many say they called the police because someone or somethingdidn't look right. Usually the police would come in walk about ask if all was ok, just their presence makes a difference.

I have never wanted to work in a store of any kind. I guess I am too much of a coward.

Another idea for the police is for customers who enter a store after certain hours would have to use a thumb print scanner before the door would open. They could either have it for evidence or if it could have a database of criminals in it, a cage could drop down around them if they were wanted.

I know, I know, it would cost too much.

Though it is not the answer to everything and will not positively effect all situations, I love the idea of everyone who wants to being trained to carry a handgun. I was one of the first to get a Texas concealed handgun permit and followed it up with Executive Protection training and licensing, which had an emphasis on conflict resolution and escalation. I think being prepared can PREVENT some crimes from being considered.
