Another [...] fighting ring was broken up, the other day, near Corsicana, just a few miles from Dallas.

Many birds were confiscated, people arressted and given citations, which are like getting aspeeding ticket.

Some of the owners of the property and a few others caught, fighting their birds might be indited on animal cruelty charges, but the sentances are light weight, because of the laws.

It is not unlawful to own,  train, and breed these birds, which are used only for fighting. The only criminal part is the fighting itself.

I would think laws should be passed making it illegal to breed, and own, and train, these birds, it would help stop the blood sport.

I can't understand the reasoning of dogfighting, cockfighting , and bull fighting, where, the animal dies a cruel death. The only reason for these blood sports, is to make money. The animals have no choice.

I know of one breeding farm, for cocks  right out at Stark road, Dallas county near Seogoville. There are rows and rows of little huts set up for the birds, and it makes me sick, that nothing can be done because the guy just breeds and sells the birds, knowing where they will end up.

The same for the Pit bull dogs that are breed for the same reason.

Seems the legislature could do something more

I feel the same way you do babysister. Its so barbaric and so un-called for.I do noy understand how anyone can get their rocks off by watching that sort of sick and twisted event.I did notice what the people looked like that were caught there.

Scmbags, they act like this is a big surprise though. I live in Waxahachie, which is a lot closer to Corsicana than Dallas, and I knew they were holding cockfight there. A LOT of people knew. You have to just scream and fight to have anyone who will do anything but shrug their shoulders.

It's been going on there for a long time. I had a job back in the early nineties that required traveling out around Ennis Tx rural dirt roads and I would see many "farms" that were raising fighting birds by the hundreds. I asked a county deputy once why it was allowed and he said it wasn't high on their list of things to do.

What is wrong with birds fighting it's a sport to some people. Birds are not very smart anyways.

It's sport for barbaric people. We don't pit animals against each other. It's against the law. And by your reasoning, PM, teachers should be able to treat stupider students differently. There's a different between humane slaughter and blood sport. Whether it's birds fighting or dogs, it's barbaric and it betrays your cultural and economic bias.BTW, bull fighting is barbaric too and I don't care what shiny image some people place on it. It's not a sport if the animals can't fight back.

Texastrublu do you eat beef, pork or veal? What do you think they do to those animals then? Do you think they treat them like a pet before the slaughter them? No- I don't think so. Bullfighting is no different than what they do to them.

I am not a vegetarian if that is what you mean. But the cattle, pigs and chickens that I eat don't fight to the death. Just having animals kill each other to get your jollies is barbaric. I would add that so is boxing and wrestling. Bullfighting they tease the bull, sometimes kill a stalking horse and that's not a fair fight. It's barbaric.

I eat beef but I don't sit outside the pen and bet which one is going to hit the ground first either. I eat fish but I don't put any in a pool and make them fight till one floats to the top.I eat pork but do I have two of them in a pen fighting to see which one I eat for dinner? No!Alot of cattle is raised strictly for consumption..same goes for pigs and even fish...but you don't try to make it into a sport. Do they eat any of the roosters that are killed in these fights? I don't think so..thus the garbage cans would'nt be full of the dead ones.Just because they are not very smart is such an assanine reason to have the fights.PM your way of thinking is really screwed up!

I had a burger yesterday but i swear there were no cows fighting to the death in my backyard. PM you only agree with rooster fighting because it's a predominately mexican "sport". Bird fighters, like dog fighters should spend time in prison. I'm sure in there, at least once, they will get to fight for their life too...maybe then they will know what dogs and birds go thru.

sick asssss people fight animals!

The blood sports are only there as a means to make money.
I eat meat every day, but laws have been installed over many years, to ensure the humane killing of food for consumption.

PM..do you also attend these cockfights, and the bull fighting? Would you set your pet dog to fight in a pit bull dog ring?
I think laws ought to be passed to ban the owining and breeding and training of these animals because it is only done to make money.

babysister, there was a man that worked with my husband and he raised fighting birds. It made me sick to see them in those cages knowing he would be taking them to oklahoma to fight on the weekends. Everyone knew he was raising them to fight but unless the police catch them fighting there's nothing they can or will do about it. not surprising the man was also involved in drugs and is in prison now for them. i guess people will do anything for money
