Wednesday night I went out to dinner with my grandma at the Boathouse and then after that we went to the Muny to see Les Miserables. It was a bit hot out but I had a wonderful time with her. My grandma who I am very lucky to still have around, has been through quite a bit in her life. As we were sitting and watching the show and I was listening to others moan and groan about how hot it was and there sat a 68 year old woman who has been through a double lung transplant among other things enjoying every minute of what was presented to her. She would lean over to me at almost every song and say Oh this is my favorite song. She was tapping her feet and humming to the tunes and at first I was a little embaressed by what she was doing, but then I thought to myself... I don't know how much longer she will be here with us and this is what she does when she goes to any show.. just let her enjoy it. By the end of the night I was tapping my feet right along with her. In this short time I learned from her without her knowing I was, that if you live life to the fullest and enjoy it while you still can you will die a happy person. I hope that when I am her age I have grandkids that I can take to the muny and tap my feet and lean over and whisper this is my favorite song. Since this was the last show at the Muny for the season after the show they sang Auld Lang Syne. I was trying to get out of the theater so I could beat traffic, but she wanted to stand there and sing with them. When we got done singing and got into the car she said that she just wanted to sing that in case she wasn't able to make it back next season. This brought a little tear to my eye, but it wasn't sad tears it was tears of joy. I was very joyous and thankful that if in fact she doesn't get to go back I was lucky enough to spend that night there with her. Enjoy the ones that you love while you can and live each day as if it were your last.

Girl all I can say is "How true!" Your grandma is such a sweet lady and I have to say I love her personality! She shines and always seems to open her arms out for a hug!

When I read the part when you said all she wanted to do was sing, it made me think of times when we would be at the kids concerts at school and my mom would start singing the songs they were playing. I would always get a little embaressed myself. Finding pleasure in a song, simply puts a smile on their face. Cherish those moments. I sure wish I could sit and be embaressed again, heck I just might start singing with her!
One day you and I may be at a concert and start sing a favorite song! Oh wait......Maggie Mae! LOL
Love you girl!

Kat that was a very inspiring story and it brought tears to my eyes. I no longer have my grandparents or my mother. What I would give to turn back time, and spend one last moment with them. You have been blessed with the opportunity and foresight to do it.

Hey Katie ,

we have to cherish every moment we have with our elders and learn from them .There is no better teacher of life than someone that has lived it .. The stories they can tell us of what it was back then .. Our elders are better than History books they lived it and we can learn from them .. I have learned that as people get older they dont seem to care what people think . They are living for every moment ..Living for Their loving family and friends .. when you have time sit and talk with your gramdmother and ask her about her child hood the things that she loved to do . the things that she thought would never changee ..Ask her what her thought were as she watched history unfold .. Cherish every moment you have with her i am sure she Cherishes every moment she has with you ..

Thanks for the "grounding" tonight. Grandparents have been gone for many years, dad for 30 years and just mom at 82 left. She calls me every night from Florida sometimes just to say "I love you" if not much more. Let's not take these things for granted and appreciate those still with us that mean so much to all of us.

Thanks for sharing that, Katie. My own grandma has been gone for many years, but I had her with me for a whole lot more and I'm so grateful for that relationship. It still blesses my life.

Treasure every moment with her and cherish those memories.

My name is Katie and I have 3 amazing kids who keep me very busy! I enjoy going to the Lake of the Ozarks, swimming, taking my kids to the park and whatever else I can find for us to do, going to Cardinals and Blues games, I love to be outside during the summer, but during the winter you will find me hiding inside somewhere. The cold and I don't get along. In whatever free time I can find I like to hang out with my friends, go shopping and I love to go dancing.
