After reading all of the blogs about Josh Hancock and how he HAD to be drunk in order to run into the back of that tow truck I wanted to share this. I was involved in an accident about 6 years ago. I was the passenger in the truck. My friend and I were driving down the highway and came upon a tow truck that was in the fast lane. We had to swerve to avoid hitting it and with that we were struck by another car that was in the right hand lane. We were coming up a hill and just didn't see the truck. Neither one of us had been drinking or anything. It could have been something as simple as this in Josh's case. Sometimes even the best drivers don't see something and get into accidents.

Kat-

I could understand if it was a hill JH came upon, but that is a flat stretch of road he was on.

He was looking down at his cell phone, he was talking to a beautiful woman in the car next to him, maybe he fell asleep.........who knows.

Okay, how about this then? I was a passenger in a vehicle at a stand still waiting to make a left turn. Two lane, flat road, unobstructed view. The truck that hit us was going what the police report said in excess of 70 mph. He had not been drinking. He said he didn't see us until the last minute and that is why he hit primarily my side, he tried to swerve at the last minute. Check out the pictures in my album. If Josh was drinking he has already suffered the utlimate consequence. Why kick a man when he is down?

Mini-If ya go back and read Petzs blog it states what the stretch of rode is like. I am not here to try and run his name into the ground or keep this thing dragging out. Just trying to open some eyes to show that this can happen to anyone even sober ones!

ANTSMOMIE-I know the exact area that is happened at I drove it for a year straight. It is not like it is a country rode, it is very well lit and your telling me that so many other people were able to avoid this. Y98 has a video showing the accident.

Yes it can happen to anyone that is stupid enough to drink and drive.

He should have learned from the near fatal accident he had on Thursday morning, no he wasen't drinking, but he had a hang over from the night before. I feel so sorry for his family, no one should have to bury their child.

This is just the facts that this can happen to anyone... If he WAS in fact drunk then that probably didn't help but this can happen to anyone at anytime. Hey look i dropped my phone... bam the back of a truck..I think you get what I am saying...

It was just that, an accident. I have been sitting still at a stop light twice and been rearended. No one was drinking. It was just human error. The only good thing is that one else was hurt of killed. I pray for his family.

Antsmommie , I love you baby girl ! But honey you are wrong on this subject ! Accidents happen for several reasons , but this one was caused by Josh Hancock and he paid the price !
Many disagree and have thought that everyone including myself have been too hard on a man who is gone ! I feel for his family but he is no different than a avrage man who would do the same thing ! I would ask you the samething I ask of others ! Had you been there and he killed you daughter , son , husband or parent would you feel the same way because of who he was ! No and I would bet you and others would want to hang him from the nearest tree and demand that he get the neddle for murder ! Please ! Yes he paid the price for the decision that everyone knows was because he was drunk and now there is the possibility he had weed as well ! I respect what you blieve but look at the facts not the man and who he was !

People put this to bed.

He's dead. can we prevent another person from killing themselves No! can we stop them from killing our love one's NO! work on stuff we can stop. like your kids failing in school, your daughters and sons have kids while still in school. Do the parenting thing! then you can teach your kids that driving drunk is not healthy for themselves and innocent bystanders. That you want grand kids but you don't want to raise them.
there are things you can control! unless your out of control!!!
the above statement is not to include any poster on this blog. I know all of us are without fault.

Be safe

He didnt kill anyone, yes it would be diff. if he did, but he didnt. He paid the price for his mistake, leave it at that.

Let the Man Rest In Peace, Please!!!!

I drive this road every day and get off the Bole Exit and came up upon the accident prior to Josh Hancock with the tow truck there. As I was coming up it appeard that the tow truck was on the left hand shoulder but at that point there is no shoulder, he was in the fast lane and I myself had slam on my breaks to get over, and I wasn't drinking I was going to work. If he was drunk or sober can we at least let the man get the justice he deserves. I thought in this Country we were "Innocent Until Proven Guilty"

I said this on another blog and I'll say it again:

After reading some of these comments, I am appauled at how many people feel that driving drunk is just a normal 'human' thing to do. I bet you'd have totally different views if someone in your family was killed by a drunk driver. How many parents say, "Oh, he was just human" when referring to the drunk driver that killed their child? I don't believe I've EVER heard those words uttered before in my LIFE!

Oh, and for the person that said they dropped their phone and hit the back of a truck:

One - you shouldn't be on your cell phone while driving in the first place

Two - I've had to suddenly hit my brakes before and when my purse goes flying onto the floor - its contents spilling out all over - I WAIT until I get to my destination before I attempt to clean the mess. It's not going hurt anything if it sits on the floor for awhile. Better than slamming into something.

I see that most posters’ talk about JH as if he were drinking or distracted by a cell phone. I will reserve my thoughts on why he wit the truck until after we hear the results of the autopsy.

The biggest problem I have with sports/celebrity figures and the dumb things that they do is that a lot of them are considered as an idol or hero for some kid(s). These kids try to mimic what their idols/heroes do because they want to be just like them when they grow up.

This is not just a problem for sports/celebrity figures! It can be anyone that a kid or kids look on as an idol/hero. We need to think about what we do and how it might affect those around us and act accordingly.

We do not know who thinks of us as a idol or hero.

I was thinking while watching the video last night that he looked like he was trying to pass another car on the left side rather then just slowing down and falling in behind it.

Dead id dead. The details dont really matter.
Drunk, sober or just a crappy driver.
At least he didnt kill anyone else.

These high profile cases are always open to so much public scrutiny. I agree with you, sarcasticdragon, he is gone, period. It doesn't matter what he did, he's gone, too soon. So sad.

My name is Katie and I have 3 amazing kids who keep me very busy! I enjoy going to the Lake of the Ozarks, swimming, taking my kids to the park and whatever else I can find for us to do, going to Cardinals and Blues games, I love to be outside during the summer, but during the winter you will find me hiding inside somewhere. The cold and I don't get along. In whatever free time I can find I like to hang out with my friends, go shopping and I love to go dancing.
