Be sure to watch the jailhouse interview with James Broadnax, the 19-year-old who admits to shooting two men to death outside a Christian music studio in Garland last week:

His attitude is shocking and so, so sad: he says his life to this point has been a waste, and he has nothing to live for; why not shoot two people in the head and steal their car?

There's only difference: three young lives cut short, but only one by choice.

I'm sure it has been a waste... by his choice of self-indulgence and me, me, me attitude, which never satisfies the soul. Did his PARENTS take him to church; teach him morals and ethics? Very doubtful.
I will say I hope he finds what his soul needs before they execute him, which he certainly deserves. That will be justice done.

I am afraid this one is an enviromental issue.Had he had more supervision, better role models it would certainly make a difference . It would be a case of the apple falling not far from a tree in a twisted orchard.

In all honesty, I think both genetics and lifestyle that you grow up in play a part.

I have known truly unbelievable religious parents with great morals that have kids destined for prison.

I have known rotton parents to have great kids.

BUT, it has to be hard to grow into a good, moral person when you are living with drug addicted parents who are living off the government, you are raising yourself, and the only people you are around are the ones that practice bad habits.

(on a side note, even the most horrid person I know who just killed a person and was asked "what do you have to say to the families of the two men you killed", would NOT say "Eff EM". If I was a family member I would be tempted to.....nevermind!

DEFINITELY parenting... NOT environment. MANY, many people have grown up poor and unprivileged and with one parent, who didn't become selfish, egotistical barbarians. Shame on their mothers (most likely NO father around. These men were the product of a good time by a willing female. NO morals) who didn't get their kids to church, teach them right & wrong. Or if so, they didn't do enough enforcing/discipline.
Sorry they became what they have, but now it's time to end their lives.

alice, in my opinion...both those guys could have had very different lives had their parenting been better, had they seen love and care in their homes...had education been important...had religion...had been given hope...so many variables that could have changed the direction of their lives. As it is, the one that killed those men should be put to death immediately

You can't blame the environment for POOR PARENTING and no morals. Even the poorest of ppl can teach their kids right from right. Abe Lincoln was dirt poor... he never murdered anyone. It's not money. Has nothing to do with money.. that is just an excuse!

Ah, but when I worked in a juvie correctional facility, I saw GOOD parents, with BAD kids.

The parents took them to church, had family dinners, quality time, gave them supervision, yadda yadda. AND THE KIDS ENDED UP IN THE CORRECTIONAL SYSTEM ANYWAY, DESPITE ALL THE GOOD EFFORTS!

Now, I will say that 90% came from BAD family sitations as I mentioned above. But, isn't the defining word "ALL"?

ALL blacks are not thiefs and criminals playing rap music. ALL Mexicans aren't on food stamps and having anchor babies. ALL Illegals aren't from Mexico.

See what I am saying? There are two sides to every piece of paper........

Matter of perspective, in my racist opinion.
