Suppose we developed a non gas engine that took millions of cars, buses and trucks out of the gasoline need picture, who would benefit?  I am trying to think who that would be.  For example, the Airlines would benefit since the cost of fuel would drop like a rock.  I know the consumer would benefit but what entity would.,.. I am stuck.

Thanks for the input.

The GUY WHO PATTENED the non-gas engine would benefit.
If FLORIDA gave him the first 5 years of production tax free, then all the EMPLOYEES would benefit, and the state would have incomes to tax.
The CONSUMERS would benefit because we could afford to use the vehicle.
Our POSTERITY would benefit because we would conserve the fuel into the next century.
The BUILDING CONTRACTORS would benefit because more people would have jobs with a future.

Screw Bush and Mobile/Exxon!

Thanks. Looking at Ohio and Florida for production plants if it works out.

Trust me, it isnt Bush or Cheney... it is Oil Execs and Speculators... they gain in spite of Bush, not because of them.

But if you want to blame anyone for the Oil problem blame the liberals who fight to drill for oil in Anwar or build refinerys or nuke plants and the liberals like Cronkite, and Kennedy who dont want wind farms near their yachts.

I also saw on Glenn Beck Monday night that we could be getting our oil from Nebraska but our elected officials will not allow it.

Hmm the air car.. I wonder how that would work? would air stations charge $$ by the PSI?

Thanks Signal12 you get the “tin-foil-hat” award of the day ! Compressing air is not “free” fact is I pay about $9 a day just to keep my 5hp/35 gallon compressor running (when I use it for sand blasting) that is 9CFM/90PSI your car requires close to 300CFM@600PSI to produce 11 kilowatts of motive power .....better just keep riding your unicorn to work until the fairy dust powered hover car comes along .
Any one els catch Oreilly interviewing Shrillery ? Why for the love of god does being a democrat mean that domestic oil production and atomic power are completely forbidden ? Why is the USA (and ONLY the USA) cutting back our use of energy the only answer that we are allowed to have???

But just to show that I am willing to meet the left half way I am going to propose a plan to develop a car that runs on aborted fetuses . That should make everyone happy : )

NOBODY is thinking out of the box!!!

How about we cut commuter traffic by 20% just by having 4 day workweeks at 10 hours a day instead of 8 times 5......

The wife works 9 hour days and gets every other Friday off!

How many people could even do at least one or two days a week working from home? Technology is there with everything from virtual office, to web meetings and realtime communications!!

Imagine what would happen if we dropped fuel demands by as high as 20% but easily 10% by just doing either of these!

It would take disclipline on all sides to do it, but if anything is true now... time and traffic is money....

I myself have set myself up to work 15 - 20 hours a week working from home, and actually set up to make MORE money in a few months by doing so! Almost ANYTHING I need to do is a phone/fax/mouse click away now!

I say stop working hard and start working smart! If your boss is stuck in the dark ages, then IMO he has no appreciation and soon enough people just won't even afford to get to work anyways!

Nothing wrong with that idea Abunai , I just wish that a larger portion of the population would stop pretending it is “every one els” who should make the changes and never ever “me” . Why in the world do people buy and drive large SUV's to and from work and to run errands in ? I have to have a truck to do my side job (I recycle scrap metal and computer components) but my old truck was a dodge with a 360 cid engine it ran fine and was payed for but it averaged 6mpg , I replaced it last year with a GMC gypsy with a 189 cid V6 now I am getting close to 20 mpg while doing the same job...I also run an RV a lot but I just replaced my ford Winnebago with its 460 cubic inch engine (7.9 liters ) with a larger RV that has a 5.9 liter diesel engine this has moved me from 6 mpg on gas to 14 mpg on diesel.

Back in the 70's a guy from Kissimmee drove a 3 wheel car to Washington DC useing 2 gallons of OJ for fuel. Within 1 hour of getting there GM brought it from him along with all info dealing with it. He signed a Contract if he ever built another one or gave out the info on this Vehicle he would have to pay GM 100 million in Damages. So my guess is he who has the highest bid would Benefit.

I am just saying that the laws of physics are not up for debate or repeal ...it takes energy to move mass and just because you are not burning gas to generate it does not mean that fuel is not being burned somewhere...as far as the OJ story that one goes right along with the water powered car , until I see someone els build one* I am going to chock it up to “urban myth” .
*it is legal to build and own/operate a patented item as long as you don't try to sell it.

My goal is to take Big Oil out of the Picture. It amazes me that we have advanced weapons research and new Ipod research but nothing in terms of an alternative to gasoline. The actual car is one of the most inefficent way to move mass.

Nothing wrong with trying to come up with another way to keep the wheels rolling on my car ...as long as you are not trying to stop me from driving , but when you say “take big oil out “ are you playing along with Hillary and supporting her idea that we can let gas prices continue to go up (it will force us to drive less) and take ALL the profit above a pre set limit as tax from the oil company's ...there is a name for this kind of government and it did not work out in Russia.
I want relief NOW! Not in 200 years and not by doing away with the American life style 1 Drill for the oil that we have right here in this country 2 stop burning oil to produce 1/3 of the electricity this country uses immediately (atomic energy is the cheapest cleanest energy available) 3...this one is hard we have to “solve” the china problem and I can think of no easy way to stop them from buying the oil that we need...well I can think of a few ways but they are shall we say : unfriendly LOL

Diesel engines were invented to run on ethanol.

A simple conversion can have a diesel engine run on straight vegetable oil.

Biodiesel converted from used vegetable oil is a renewable resource.
