Since I think you Bloggers are Smart and helpful and have a variety of views and experiences, I really need as much final input in a couple things that I have been talking about for a while and now ready to roll.... you wouldnt believe the legal loopholes involved.  I am doing this in Houston, LA, CLeveland and Central Florida in Pilot Programs.

Here is what I have in mind.. you tell me how to improve, add or subtract.  I want neigborhood offices who can be responsible for a "grid' of homes, families, etc.  IN each of these centers, I want to make sure people can come in for help with money, food, jobs, health, etc.  If someone has trouble with grocerys getting in the home, we can assist them ( I have been there where I wasnt sure if I had money for food).  Or in case of Crime areas, we will set patrols, assist with kids who have parents who want them to change from Zero to Hero and change from a thug to a person they can be proud of.

In some low income communitys in our long fact finding of 2007-8, we learned that many people have no clue how to be parents, be employed, or have a clue how to live day to day.... it is a shame and this is perpetuating year after year.  Abuse follows abuse and crime follows crime.

In these centers which could number hundreds in a city, it would be the starting point of links to help... the main TruthGuys Foundation (called something else when ready), will have the jobs, the money, the councelors, the attorneys, and any resourse to help.  The only condition is that anyone who gets help will have to help others too.  No leaches allowed.   That is something I am concerned with.  I dont think it helps to hand out money with one hand and people doing nothing to improve.

I seen this happen first hand in the Katrina New Orleans disaster.  I flew in supplies and when I saw people we helped standing around doing nothing we asked for them to help distribute food, water, etc.... they did nothing but sit and not a thank you out of anyone.   I asked many of the USAF guys if they experienced the same... and they said the people were so used to welfare checks and help, they had no clue how to live like the rest of us.  I vowed not to enable this.

I am a GOP capitalist to the max but get really mad when I see Limos, high rise office buildings overlooking poverty, Celebs with $300,000 Cars, Cribs to the max Politicians Promising year after year and yet this is in the shadows.  I aim to do something.

SO I need your help in how YOU would run such help centers.   I need accountablity but yet a way people can go to not be ashamed of getting help or reluctant to get help.  In a segment of CBSNEWS last night they showed a girl who was a waitress and while making $200 a week barely, she has bare kitchen cabinets... this in W Virginia... sad.  ANd then when I see kids poor too... I lose it.  I might see if I can post this report here. They show a 30 sec commercial I am sure.

Any ideas will be appreciated... You are all SMART

OK I'll bite...

If I had alot of money and wanted to do what you are doing I would first go and secretly visit a helps organization of ministry of good report and see how it is they do what they do. I would go as someone who needed help and see if how the organization or ministry addresses my need.

Helps organizations of the kind you speak do themselves no favor by advertising their exsistance. The folks who need help and who do not have family or friends who can help them would have to be sought out. Even then no one accepting help is going to immediately be so grateful that they will do anything but give lip service to helping out. Unless it is a part time job you are offering and that is best offered to those who are already doing what you seem to be considering.

There are people who for good reasons and bad who already pass out food and cut checks from donations made to their ministries or organiztions. If they are not dependent themselves on these donations that is rare. But rather they are or aren't the experts at finding and giving to the truly non-leech needy are those who have been doing what you are suggesting for years.

These are they that blow no trumpets and whose left hands have no idea what the right hands are doing. Those who are professionals at this type of work are like extremely pretty women who believe they are ugly because they get called ugly alot... and that by those they help the most.

Better yet... find an organization you like and cut them a check without giving them a lecture. Money has no opinion.

I want dont want to cut checks like you say beacuse if they can cure this already they would. I want to END the Poverty not live on it like many places do. I am very familar with Matthew 6:33.... but imput is important and since no one knows me I am not bragging.

Being just another cog in the wheel isnt my style... I like to cure things.. not enable... So back to the original question... What IDEAS would you give if you sat on my planning committee? Cut a check.... you can do better.

Well... ok. My main point to you is that the types of organizations you speak of are already in place. For instance even as a staunch protestant I've been impressed by some Catholic helps organizations that give help to folks in a very responsible and involved manner. There are many other disorganized churches and community groups that offer that extra hand to people motivated to change their lot in life. If you're talking about starting from scratch then more power to you. But don't do this under the assumption that there aren't folks who've been running helpful soup kitchens for years.

It's been awhile since I've had a free non-judgemental life changing bowl of soup so I can't be more specific. But I do know that after a few weeks at a soup kitchen you'll find the truly needy who could benefit from the help you're talking about...

So again... my suggestion would be to research those people and places who are already doing what you are talking about. As a trainee brick layer I learned by trowel and error.
