David Letterman is paying his staff through the rest of the year out of his own pocket.  That's even if both shows remain in rerun-mode.
His Late Show is currently shut down for the WGA strike.

I wonder if other hosts will step up too?  Leno?  Steven Colbert?  Jon Stewart?

Would you like to see those guys on the picket lines too?

Suzanne,

I say Kudos to David Letterman for his compassion! I hope he's out there with the writers, standing firm.

As a side note, here's a good reason why the writers are striking for royalties from the new media sources like the internet: Songwriters who do not perform the songs that they wrote get royalties for what they wrote, every time their song is played publicly, including all forms of the new media. As an example, if Edwin McCain's hit I Could Not Ask For More gets played on the internet, ASCAP & BMI track it, then they pay Diane Warren her share of the royalty she's due. If someone plays Whitney Houston's How Will I Know, George Merrill, Shannon Rubicam, and Narada Michael Walden each get a cut of the royalty. Now, I hope this sheds some light on why the screenwriters want a fair cut deal for themselves too.

Yes, I hope all these guys keep on stepping up with the writers too...Conan, Carson Daily, you name them...I hope they back their writers!

Great job Suzanne! Just so you know, I have some former classmates from Cal State Long Beach who work in the film industry. I'm sure they're out there picketing too.

I heard Jay Leno is cheap, Conan O'brein doesn't look like the giving type, maybe Ophra
will give. Unions are no longer stonrg any more
it's a shame. The middle class is sinking fast.

Actually, Leno is a great American and he has done things for his fellow writers but differently than Letterman. Before you go prejudge someone make sure you have all the facts. There are many things that Leno has done as well for the writers and under the line talents as well, you just don't hear about a lot of things because it doesn't need to be publicized. Leno has been threatened by NBC to be canned asap for sticking with the writers, and that is the start for him, so please go easy on the guy. He is a very nice and pleasant breath of fresh air as a fellow American and he has done many grand things for many people in need.

Whenever I get a package of plain M&Ms, I make it my duty to continue the strength and robustness of the candy as a species. To this end, I hold M&M duels.
Taking two candies between my thumb and forefinger, I apply pressure, squeezing them together until one of them breaks and splinters. That is the "loser," and I eat the inferior one immediately. The winner gets to go another round.
I have found that, in general, the brown and red M&Ms are tougher, and the newer blue ones are genetically inferior. I have hypothesized that the blue M&Ms as a race cannot survive long in the intense theater of competition that is the modern candy and snack-food world.
Occasionally I will get a mutation, a candy that is misshapen, or pointier, or flatter than the rest. Almost invariably this proves to be a weakness, but on very rare occasions it gives the candy extra strength. In this way, the species continues to adapt to its environment.
When I reach the end of the pack, I am left with one M&M, the strongest of the herd. Since it would make no sense to eat this one as well, I pack it neatly in an envelope and send it to M&M Mars, A Division of Mars, Inc., Hackettstown, NJ 17840-1503 U.S.A., along with a 3x5 card reading, "Please use this M&M for breeding purposes."
This week they wrote back to thank me, and sent me a coupon for a free 1/2 pound bag of plain M&Ms. I consider this "grant money." I have set aside the weekend for a grand tournament. From a field of hundreds, we will discover the True Champion.
There can be only one.

In rural southern Illinois a toy company began selling "realistic" baby dolls to expectant mothers. But apparently after the mother had her child the toy baby would start crying. Eventually the "rocking motion" advertised to calm it down wouldn't work, and you couldn't get it to stop without shaking it. Eventually when it started crying the parent would have to beat it, and the beatings and thrashings would have to get harder and harder to get it to be quiet. The only thing that seemed to shut the baby doll up permanently was the bash its head against the wall to destroy whatever mechanism triggered the crying. On more than one occasion though, neighbors called the authorities to report child abuse, and when the police arrived they found the the bloody remains of infants smeared across the walls and the floor. In most cases the mother couldn't understand why the police were there, she just "got rid of the stupid doll" as she rocked a baby-shaped bundle in her arms.

Mr. Sebar, Mr. Leno and all the other talk hosts make some bog dollars, I wonder if what you say is true about Mr. Leno that he gives
alot of money to worthy causes. I'm a union worker and I'm glad he's not crossing the picket more people should be that way.

Actually Leno has done so with grave risk to his career. Before the strike it was rumored strongly from reliable insider sources that NBC was courting at almost any price, to keep Leno and forgo Conan. That is a fact. So their serious talk of dumping him for not crossing the picket lines is also a very serious issue. Can they hurt Leno, only for a very short time. But hey, this guy has been one of the nicest people, and politics aside, so is Letterman. They are in their own respect both nice guys and honestly both men have honored the pickets as has many outside the writers guild. As for m&m's sorry, but they kill teeth, good luck looking for a good dentist, just make sure he doesn't stick ya too bad AnonLoevLoli , when he does a little dance and you are under the gas mask.
