The internet is packed with promises from authors of do-it-yourself manuals designed to teach you to EASILY convert your car to run on hydrogen extracted from water.

If you caught our story tonight at 9 you know what our experience was like trying to complete the task.

During the process, we searched for someone in North Texas who has successfully done so.

Have you tried?

Have you succeeded?

Sound off and let me know.  We'd love to follow up.

In the meantime many thanks to the many MANY MANY viewers who wrote in requesting that we put such an instruction manual to the test.

Keep those story ideas coming!

Extracting hydrogen from water is not easy and can't work as easily as these devices make it sound. It's a scam and a ripoff. If it worked, they'd be available everywhere and automakers would have licensed the technology years ago.

The technologe correct, but it is not as easy as the how to kits make it sound. I did build a unit that produced a small amount of hydrogen( enough to amuse myself by burning it off with a match after it went through the bubbler), but not enough to help with fuel milage. I have bought a unit that is manufactured and will be installing it tomorrow, and will keep you posted on my results.

These type of internet ads are scams, but you shouldn't tout the technology as flawed. These types of systems are not a weekend do-it-yourself project, however, the method is sound, and fuel efficiency can be improved by using this method. The "complicated electrical circuit" is nothing more than a coil of wire located inside a tank of water. You guys went to the wrong people to build that part of the project. You wouldn't hire a plumber to roof your house, and you shouldn't have asked a mechanic to build an electric circuit - mechanics are completely ignorant when it comes to electrical circuits. There are several people actively using this method to improve their fuel efficiency in the DFW area. The thing to remember is that it is not a replacement for gasoline. The hydrogen extracted from the water is injected into the air intake using the same method as a "dry" nitrous system. The hydrogen mixes with the oxygen and gasoline to produce the controlled explosion that fuels the vehicle. Because the hydrogen provides some of the fuel for this explosion, less gasoline is used in the process, hence improving the fuel efficiency. Building this kind of system is not rocket science, but does require some research and persistence, along with basic mechanical, electrical, and fabrication knowledge. It's not for everyone - but you also shouldn't say that it doesn't work. If you find the right people they can show you how to properly build, install, and tune this type of system.

I recently built a device from parts and materials purchased at Lowe’s and a local scrap yard. The device produces a gas from water which is volatile and will make balloons float.

I tested the gas in my 2003 Ford F150 and my sons 2001 Ford Ranger. The gas did not trigger any trouble lights or alarms and, to my surprise, actually made the engine run smoothly.

The total cost of the unit was less than $125.00. I do not know if the device will increase the gas mileage on my truck, however, I plan to test it very soon.

This has been a very interesting garage project. I will gladly share what I have learned with anyone wanting information.

I have a blog located at http://houseofbugs.com/weblog/?site_id=308 and

I have pics there of the unit that I purchased and installed in my car. It is a very simple system and does generate gas which I pipe into the engine. My sister in Florida purchased the book that you all featured(or a similar one).

No way I can fix that up. I talk all about the decision making process that went into the whole project and the different factors on the internet that a person has to watch out for.
She is going to get her units installed in two of her cars.

Right now I am reading my mileage go from 14 or so up to upper 20mpg and even into the mid 50s depdneind on whether or not I am going downhill.

I suggest that anyone interested in this simple technology get some good information and read all that you can on the whole process.

I haven't ran mine on water but I run it all the time on gravity. The cool thing with running your car on gravity is, you don't have to buy anything and you don't have to install anything either.

All you do is put the vehicle in nutral when you top a hill and coast all the way down the hill. Just imagine the speed you can build coasting down the high five on 635. ;)

The technology is real. There are many videos on water powered cars on You Tube. One I watched said someone was working with a car manufacturer to produce an "HHO" car to sell to the public.

Would be great if they made it happen. Would be a more efficient and cleaner solution to fossil fuels.

I'm surprised the FTC doesn't charge these shysters with fraud!

Extracting hydrogen from water IS EASY, and is a common high school chemistry experiment. Oxygen and Hydrogen gas are easily produced by running an electric current through water to disassociate the the weak bonds between hydrogen and oxygen. The same process is used to produce pure oxygen gas for oxygen respirators for medical use in homes.

I am dissappointed the Steve did not check out the HHO gas hybrid devices which SEEM much easier to implement and the CLAIMS to double your gas mileage. There are tons of you tube videos showing how to make these, even with a mason jar. Seems pretty easy and probably to good to be true.

If this process does work I will be amazed as it seems to break a the first law of thermodynamics. Hydrogen cars are nothing new but hydrogen "on demand" from water rather is very skeptical as the amount of hydrogen produced from a water on demand would probably not be enough to car engine.

I am very skeptical and would love to watch a piece by Steve on these HHO generators.

Steve, Mine works and puts out more than enough gas to get a big jump in MPG. But you don't have to buy the plans, they can be found free all over the internet. Here's a video of my output test. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=og1tZMbQn54

john000316- thanks for the link. Do you have this hooked up to your car?

Steve, It's not hooked to the car yet, I bought an 89 honda accord to hook it to.Kinda scared to hook it to my truck until I know it won't hurt anything. I'm waiting for the circuit I bought online to arrive to pulse the electricity to the unit and then i'll hook it to the car. I'm not technical enough to build the circuit but found one for $35.00 on ebay. I'll let you know how big a gain I get in MPG.

Steve what actually found unbelieveable about this story is that you actully found someone to help you at Home Depot. Although you did get the standard answer "I don't know." Even if this worked, the speculators would raise the price of water to $10.00 per gallon.

Steve, this stuff is happening. The main focus of groups on the net are Hydrogen assist boosters. Trust me there are tons of scams out there on this topic, but there are lots of people handing the information out free in forums and websites. Most increases are around 20% on mpg numbers. It does take some reasearch. I have built one, hooked it to my car and increased my mileage (13.8 mpg to over 19 mpg all on the same course multiple test). A side benifit is zero bad emmision gases. A favorite design that you can build and install is attached. Without some electronics that need to be purchased or built, your car computer and it's O2 sensors will likely compensate out any savings on newer cars. Read the whole site.

Look up Smackbooster on Youtube.

Also "Hydroxy" Group on Yahoo.

Remember Hydrogen was the stuff in the Hindenberg. It is explosive that is why it works. Someone will eventually get hurt messing with this stuff without enough knowledge. Safety First!

Steve,

I have read the manual from RUN YOUR CAR ON WATER website. It all sounded great until the end of the book that said you should make sure your engines valves are stainless steel, I was not able to find out what type of valves are in my flex fuel Nissan Titan. This system runs car on water, there was a video from another Fox channel that showed the actual car running on this, it was a Ford Excort. Im my opinion for this site you need to technically inclined.

website http://www.runyourcaronwater.com/

I have also been reading about the HHO boosters that hook to the air intake. They claim a 40 to 70% increase in MPG. This system looks alot easier to install.

website http://www.gas4free.com/

Is there anyway you could investigate these sites?

Regards,

Mark

It may seem like a heavily pre-produced comment, but I really DO love hearing from our viewers. The segments I do on FOX4 (On Your Side, Save Me Steve, and Deal or Dud) are all about helping you live better day to day. Many of my story ideas come from folks like you- my work is really YOUR work. I’m here to save you time, save you money and save you from getting ripped off. OK, now that all of that formal stuff is out of the way- here’s a little about me. Yes, I’m a Yankee- born and raised in New York, I love living in North Texas, it is so refreshing to be in a place where people are proud of the heritage years of rich history have created. Back at home in NY the tie that binds very often is the lack thereof – really, nobody is REALLY from NY anymore it seems. What’s that you say? There’s nothing to do in North Texas except shop and eat? PERFECT! Those are my two favorite things! When I’m not at work and not eating or shopping (bargain hunting is more like it) you’ll find me walking my dog Parker (that’s his picture - we got him at the Weim Rescue of North Texas), inappropriately using the punctuation “…”, or driving with the top down and pretending I know the lyrics to whatever song I’m listening to. If you drive by and catch me… no laughing!
