The Spinward Marches

Slick and Sleek Here's the deal on the movie Fracture:

it is is sleekly, done beautiful looking and provides a good workout with Master Devious himself, Sir Athony and the exploding Ryan Gosling. Anthony Hopkins is a very successful guy who, when all others are confused, can point his finger at the basic flaw in a complicarted jet engine etc. He's brilliant, the smartest guy in the room, except... His wife is cheating on him, so he kills her and plans to get away with it. Into this scheme come assistant DA Gosling, a hotshot on his way out of the DA's office to the glamorous, sexy and high paying world of corporate law, but first he has to handle this little slam dunk murder case(sounds like I'm giving too much away, but im not). It turns out o be a slam...but no dunk. It becomes a cat and mouse game and while there are some key moments where you might say,"oh come on" it all works. LA has never looked better, in fact, I wish director Greg Hoblit ( who's really good at this kind of movie) would have lingered a little longer on some of the views. So you've got Hopkins and Gosling and Fracture...not bad at all!

Mike Becomes Christine I don't know Mike Penner, the sportswriter at the LATimes, but was moved by his announcement after 40 years of dealing with it, he is changing his gender;:(see his article here) when he comes back from vacation he will be Christine Daniels. It's a brave thing to do but ultimately he feels he had no choice. Whatever the basis for his transexuality (perhaps events dring his mother's pregnancy) he has been a woman living in a man's body. I liked the comment of his boss, Randy Harvey when Penner told him of the change, he looked out at the sports department and said now there'll be more diversity! Good luck Christine!

The Race is On And a comment about the presidential contenders and pretenders. We seems to treat the race for the presidency as a popularity contest; who's got the best personality, who is more likeable. but remember, it's not American Idol, it's America's future. While it may be about character or piety or wit or looks, it's really about policy and vision. I wish most americans would get as involved in thinking about the process as we do with thinking about Sanjaya and Lindsey Lohan.

Those are my comments..... yours? My best to all of you!

Politics aside, how fantastic is it that Mrs. Clinton - or any woman - is in The Race and being taken seriously? The same sentiment in terms of race of course applies to Mr. Obama. I'm neither a feminist nor a racial advocate but really it is about time for this. Regardless of who receives the nomination in the end we have already made so much progress.

Steven,

I thought it was a little lame to have a presidential debate this early in the contest. Most of those guys on stage won't be in the racy by the time Autumn rolls around, and others are hoping to get considered for VP. It's going to be a two horse race between Clinton and Obama, everyone else is simply pretending, and I interpreted the debate was mostly a bunch of candidates showing how they used to support the war and now that the breeze has shifted, they don't like it.

And what a tough decision made by Mike Penner at the LA Times. I wonder if he's going to have issues with the players he covers now.

Rosie O'Donnell has been in the news over and over again for making off color comments and yet Jillian gets away with her foul mouth everyday.....When she said she hadn't seen her privates in so long the other day I almost choked on my coffee. Is she just allowed to spew whatever she wants and no one calls her on it, or what? Rosie is a commedian, what's Jill's excuse?

[Who would be the best romantic match for Hillary? Look at the men and tell me whom you could imagine naked in bed with NY senator.]

Rudy Giuliani tells us Democrats “do not understand the full nature and scope of the terrorist war against us.”
[Rudy will be elected president]

My choice for Democratic candidate is Joey Biden (Senator Delaware- chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee.) He has the most experience as a foreign-policy thinker among the Democratic candidates. He has dreamed a quasi-partition plan for dividing Iraq into three or more separate regions held together by a loose central government. Someday the US might withdraw, but I bet the US builds a permanent military fort in Iraq. Similar to Vatican City in Rome, the US fort will be a local office of the bases in Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

U.S. military is spending almost $1 billion this year for base construction in Iraq. The base at Balad, for example, has been expanded to host F-16 fighter and C-130 transport squadrons.

A former Iraq intelligence chief for the State Department, Wayne White, said he believes one of the administration's unstated pre-invasion goals was to secure permanent U.S. military bases in Iraq after overseeing the installation of a pro-American government.

My proxy does not support the Democrat crew this year or next.

Why does no one care about th Susan Miller Dorsey High band anymore? the teens have been left to teach themselves the past 5 weeks and it has just been recent that they have gotten a replacement teacher. The students have given up all hope on our communities because they too have posted blogs on Good Day la and contacted companies that sponsor bands and they have been told on every occasion that they do not meet the qualities to become sponsored. The young promising teenagers have been in hope of going to compete in their yearly festival in Las vegas, but their motivation is drained for they know they will not be going because they cannot afford it and no one will donate to them for them to go. It was also their hope to find sponsors to get new instruments and uniforms for both of those items are either broken, rusted, MOLDED, chewed through by RATS, torn, repatched, and rehemmed. This is a disgrace that people do not care about these young teens that succeed in school and life, but cannot have a successful program due to financial difficulties. The schol does not donate to any program except football, and their may not be a music program much longer if these conditions worsten. PEOPLE PLEASE, help our children. If you emptied out your pocket change and donated to a school and multiple people did that, it could pay for these items. The children are not asking for much from you, just a bit of hope in a time of desperate need of hope and motivation.

Steve,

You're sweet. I think you, more than any other TV personality, have the pulse of the US. Do I hear national anchor? (if you want it).

By the way, I watched A Guide for the Married Man last night on your recommendation and I loved it. Keep up the good work.

Steve:

I agree the political race is not about personality or looks, or popularity or about the candidates’ personal life. It’s about the issues and their political campaign. I like u hope that the best woman or man wins. I just do not feel like the Democrats or Republicans have a strong ticket to the white house. I hope the Republicans do not choose Rudy Giuliani because he is more of a Democrat on many issues. I also hope that the Democrats do not elect Obama as the front runner because his a novice at politics he is all talk but we have no idea if can deliver?

I hope that 2008 election are as exiting and as closed as previous years. I just wish that Al Gore would run with Hillary and give the conservatives a run for their money, a girl can dream..lol.

Hi Steve,
I know you can help me with this question because I think you're one of the smartest men alive! Politically speaking; what is the difference between Republican, Democrat, and Liberal? What different views of Government does each have? I tried explaining it to my 17 year old, and found I couldn’t.

Dear Steve:
I posted a comment to ASK Jillian and just incase she is not able to comment, I will ask you the same question.
I am a student and I have made a few friends. One of the friends is loud, obnoxious and can be very distracting when we are trying to learn. I have noticed that she tends to compete with me infront of other classmates. When we are talking one on one she is the greatest friend; but; with in class she is very competitive with me and distracting. I am at the point of dropping this class. What would you do?

Mr. Edwards,

I'm not sure how to ask you a question, so I'm posting here. I know how you had distaste for the Baldwin incident. We had the Spears incident and now the Hasselhoff video. I’m finding the media to be over-stepping their bounds and sinking into the underbelly of celebrity life. I think this is the downfall of the media, as no one “that matters” will trust you anymore. Good luck getting guests (not you Steve, I trust you… not Dorothy though).

How would you like someone probing into your life? I would like to sponsor a probe into the news people and executives that approve their stories. Let’s see what happens there. I worked in the industry for a decade and I know what kind of people make it happen. If what happens in the news industry was exposed, I wonder who would report it. I would guess other networks would until they were stung. I am so disappointed and will watch less magazine and news shows from now on.

I wonder…. Why are you with FOX?

Steve has been the host of GoodDay LA for 13 years and counting. While it seems that he's been on LA tv for 60 years, it's really been since 1978. Steve's been the host of too many shows to mention but a few are: Am Los Angeles, Two on the Town, Live in La,: he has a closetfull of emmys, a star on Hollywood Blvd and looks forward (most mornings) to his time with Jillian and Dorothy, and yes, he reads a lot of the stuff you write!
