SaulTrain's Blog

Last Post 170 days, 10 hours Ago

So I am finally joining this whole Blogging craze.  I hope to discuss all kinds of stuff with all of you. But I thought I would begin my first blog asking for some help from you. Recently you saw video of us reporters and anchors "BEFORE" we made it here to Fox 4. I'm sure you noticed the"stylish" glasses and also how much younger I looked. Well did you also notice how much thinner I was? Man was that depressing!!! So here's where you come in: I am counting on you to lend me some moral support here as I try to shed some of those pounds. (I'm not saying I plan on being as thin as I was 15 years ago. Come on let's be real here). But my goal is to lose about 20 pounds. All I need is for you guys to ask me how the diet is going, if I've cheated, if I"m on track..etc...  Basically let me know that you're watching and counting on me to keep my goal.  I'll keep you guys updated and thanks.  We'll be blogging soon!  -Saul

Glad to have you finally decide to join us.

Best of luck on the diet. My best advice is if you are drinking soft drinks . . . STOP. Switch to water or at least a diet soft drink. You'll be amazed at what you can lose just from that.

Good luck

Saul, the thing to remember about dieting it is that if you're a carb junkie that is half your battle. If you bulk up on protein and cut back on your carbs, you'll lost weight the healthy way.My wife has lost about 150 pounds over the past year and a half doing this.

I second ATM, except diet soft drinks have been shown to be of no weightloss benefit. Ignoring the health consequences of toxic chemicals like Aspartame and Splenda, they have been shown to cause/continue sugar cravings causing snacking and cheating on your diet, not to mention the mental game of "I'm saving calories here, so calories over there won't matter."

The biggest thing is avoid processed grains and sugars and exercise.

Saul....you have it easy...you're a man, hehe. Much harder for gals to lose weight.

Maybe you can do that diet I saw Dan Marino pitching lol! Good luck to you!

Welcome Saul...Got to say I am happy to see you here. I tell everyone, when they have problems... just to call You!!
As for dieting...I am with You there! since I don't ride horses much anymore...my body has gone kapoot!
Water water water...which I hate. I did find Diet Rite Pure Zero! made with Splenda..and comes in flavors!

Hey Saul!! Finally some one I feel like I know. LoL!

Good Luck with the Weight Loss! The only thing I know about losing weight is the best method, diet and exercise. About carbs/protein - I would add: watch your HDL/LDL levels - don't want to lose twenty that may not hurt you and gain a few milligrams of plaque that will.

I second what GrayWolf said about aspartame, no nutra-sweet, it'll work against your diet.

Hi Saul,
Nice to meet you. I hope your diet goes well. I have a really bad history of dieting obsession so just be really careful not to fall into all these pitfalls of "whats in or hot". I agree with ATM and Grey in their advice. I honestly believe if people would pull out that old food pyramid and be active the fat that we gain with age and becoming more sedentary will fall to the "weigh" side (pun intended, smiles) Good Luck and just remember becoming a healthy eater and active person will naturally shed the pounds and will benefit you in the longer run than any "diet" or worse "crash diet" available these days.
Take Care,
Kay

Dear Ted-mania,
Hi ~Waves~ Haven't not communicated with you in a long while. But, mannnnnnn I dont want to be like a nagging wife or anything but....well, Im a dispatcher and wife and mommy so go figure right? Those burgers gotta go mannnnn. My son has an extreme metabo too, as did I. Get ready though, cause one day it might just fly the coop and then those macs are gonna be required to register their own zip code, LOL. But, in all seriousness Ted, I lost a family friend years ago, he was a thin guy, father of two, military man, Honor Guard, awesome man, I looked up to him like a Hero and one day in between running and go to work he collapsed and died that night. It was his heart and no one knew he had any problems he was generally healthy. Go get a check up, just to do, just to see if there is something you can do to help yourself not be him.
sorry this is long, but something maybe people need to see.
Take Care,
Kay

Thanks you guys. Glad to hear from all of you. (Cherokee, I like your advice!!!) Just kidding. Thanks for all the advice. I have a pretty good workout routine. I am also trying to put a bit more muscle mass. It's worked in the past. I've just gotten lazy. But I was just wanting you guys to keep me motivated because I tend to lose my focus rather quickly. But once I get on a roll (not the cinnamon kind) I tend to have good results. Yes I would kill for a matabolism like yours Ted-Mania. Anyway, feel free to talk about or ask me about anything you would like. Saul

Welcome, SaulTrain!!!

Drink lots of water. Something that's also helped me is parking my car further out in the parking lot to get more walking in, and taking the stairs instead of the elevator at work.

Good luck to you, I know you'll do well!!!

Ya know Saul I seriously thought about calling you to complain about my neighbors dog that poops on my and others lawns at least twice per day. Animal control does nothing....they take so long to get her the dogs are in by then. Arlington has a leash law...which she violates every morning when she opens that front door and lets they wander the neighbohoods ripping trash bags etc.

I wonder..what would she say if you were standing outside her door one morning...when she opened it, with an A/C truck and a newcrew. LMAO.

Okay...small fish....you have bigger ones to fry..but thanks for letting me share my little fantasy here, lol! :)

Ryngwrayth, what if you grabbed your camcorder and videotaped her doing this? She'll probably ask what you're doing. Tell her that I asked you to do this and that you are going to give me the tape. As far as animal control, it might be difficult to prove the poof is her dogs. Anyway, well I'm off all this coming week. Heading to Hot Springs, AK with the wife and kids for a couple of days. I've been doing well with my diet. Hopefully I won't get off track too much.

How's your diet? Are you eating better? I want to let you know about something that is bugging me!! A high school student in my community threatened to shoot some students in class. He got suspended for a week and now has to be isolated from his classmates but is continuing to attend school. Because he is labeled special ed, I'm told not much more can be done about it. I'm concerned. Should we just sit around and wait for another massacre to occur or what can be done about it?

I agree with many here,
Get with Steve, as he needs the moral support too. I lost an entire size just cutting my soft drinks to 1, ONLY 1 per day - now, they aren't even a craving habit to drink water and just have a non-sweetened tea instead. I have so much more energy now and I sleep better too !
Hey Saul, You and Steve are the best looking guys on Fox, can't wait to see yall slimmer and trimmer although you look just fine now, more energy will make you feel great

You can catch me on Good Day every morning from 5am-9am reporting on anything and everything. You can also find me getting to the bottom of "What's Buggin' You?", a Monday night feature on Fox 4 News at 9pm. Hard to believe that 2007 marks my 8th year at Fox 4 and 15th year in TV news.
