I love taking pictures of nature. Whether its clouds, mountains, the ocean or trees, I am always clicking away. My inspiration for landscape and nature photography came from my love of the earth and the atmosphere and my admiration for Ansel Adams. I have several of Ansel’s photographs on the walls of my home. My library is also filled with many of his books. Yeah, I try to emulate his work, but never get close. I was fortunate enough to take a trip up to Yosemite a few years back during spring and see where it all started for Ansel. What a magical place. I am hoping to take another trip to the park very soon.

Last year I purchased a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi. It’s an amazing digital camera. However, there are so many complicated features that are available to help get just the right picture. I am slowly working with lighting and the ISO speed and am gradually getting more proficient with all of the camera’s bells and whistles. I’ll be honest though and say that many times I just put it in “auto” mode and click away. I need more training and need to get out more and shoot away! Below are a couple of photographs I took at the beach near my home. I like working with both black and white and color.

I’d love to hear from you guys about photography. Any good tips for photographing landscape images? Share some of your pictures with us. I am going to see if our web guys can set up an area where you can post some your work.

Have a great weekend everyone-Rick

Have you check out Flickr.com? I have a pro account there, there's TONS of photo junkies on that site, and the Canon Rebel is one of the top cameras on Flickr.

Rick,
I love the way you frame your pictures. If you can’t get a photo sharing area out of your web guys then maybe you should post a large gallery of your landscapes in your photos on your blog... I would love to see more of the world through your artistic photographic eye.

My husband and I recently purchased a Canon EOS 40D... it is a great camera... very clear shots... but like you said, it is going to take a while to learn how to use it for more than point and click. If you have any pointers to share with us about the camera... I would love to hear them. Take care Rick, have a great weekend!

Nice pictures Rick. I love the strange and unusual weather we have been having lately. I love dark cloudy skies I love thunderstorms, snow clouds rain clouds. I know I live in the wrong end of the west coast for the kind of skies I like. Just a work of caution, a very good friend of mine while in New Mexico several years back was taking a picture of his daughters and girlfriend with the backdrop being a beautiful cloud filled sky when his camera got struck by lightening, killing him. In front of his two daughters and girlfriend.
So please be careful I guess lightening can be tricky sometimes and come out of nowhere.

Hey Rick have you ever taken a donut break and just said, wow, look what I have been missing out on everyday? Then kicked back with Will and friends and really enjoyed a quick sweet tooth in the morning, finally gulping down French roast coffee. I mean dude, you are missing out on life without a you know what in the morning...yeesh, wait till Mystere replies to all my donut blogs. Besides Rick Donuts can help you float during riptides or didn't you know that surfer dude???
