Just back from the San Bernardino Mountains….and it was great..Out of the hustle and congestion of the city and into the pristine mountain air. I spent a long weekend up in Big Bear..snow boarding and enjoying some down time. The slopes are still covered because of all of the storms that moved through this winter. We really are fortunate here in southern California. Everyone is just a couple of hours (at most) away from the mountains or beaches. I am fortunate enough to live at the coast so heading up to the high country is a treat. It was no nice to be away from everything and surrounded by the trees. The air is clean, you can here the wind through the pines and everything moves slowly. I highly recommend heading up to the mountains if you want a break from your rut and need some R&R. I stayed in a cabin in the town of Fawnskin on the north side of the lake. The town is so quaint and everyone is extra friendly…such a fresh of breath air. Not much traffic either on North Shore Drive!…It was awesome. I hope you are all having a great week…Rick

rick,
what yousaid about everything moving slower in the mt. air is absolutly true, ive felt the same way before-it is very calming-i also get the same feeling from the desert-i even like the 100 degree heat,it is fun to focus on the earths elements when u are in the harshest of them.
prepared of course.

Well, I used to go avidly snow skiing back in the 70's and even into the mid 80's and I loved it. Snow Summit has the wall, and at certain times with moguls it is a blast. too bad they never developed Mt. San Gorgonio with its 3,000 vertical feet of above tree line skiing and deep powder. Once you get out of L.A., California opens up to a treasure chest of climates and grand scenery...truly a golden state.

Check out my blog. Chapter 07 of Thunder Dead posted. If they don't lock it, it will be deleted as usual within 48 hours. You can hear the rest of the story of "Thunder Dead" chapters in upload progress each day at youtube and look for the user mpschunks... It is a sci-fi story about scaling a frozen cloud to save the universe from going dark forever. Of course they had "Mama's" donuts to help give them energy and start the day off with robust gusto!

My favorite mountain areas are in the High Sierras: Mono Village in Bridgeport off the 395. Just kick back by the lake with a fishing pole, and a great pastry from Schats bakery in Bishop. Now that'll start the day with more than robust gusto! Schats Sebar! Schats! The best bakery in California! Rick, if you ever go to Mammoth, you'll remember Schats, I take it? In the middle of Bishop on the 395.

Actually Mister E, my Sheriff Wyler Scott series starts in Mammoth California in March the winter of 1978. Wyler Scott though fictional was the Mono County Sheriff, so I did travel there back then doing my research there. The WS series was a lot of fun to author and currently I am working on number 5 and 6 among other stories I have on the slate. I have eventually 19 stories in that series planned and the first 4 took a while so I'll be at it hopefully throughout my remaining days here.

Yeah Rick, I do write the best or so I try to, though the humble old saying, there is always someone better than me.
