GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS !!

I really try not to touch politics or religion too much with this blogging business, but I can't let this one go.  This is a war with young Americans giving their LIFE, not only for our country, but AT THEIR OWN HANDS.  This news story just broke my heart,  pissed me off and apparently is not a topic the media or the government wants to bring up.  I thank you Fox for bringing this to light, at least for me.  It may be hidden under that big white house rug, I don't know.  This is a side of war I never really thought of.  Check out Fox national news and  http://www.defenselink.mil

Apparently, of 99 Army personnel 25% on their 2nd or 3rd tour of duty killed THEMSELVES in the last year while deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan, not including attempts.  Of these twice as many WOMEN deployed as compared to non deployed women were among the 99 Americans.  Besides, the usual  reasons of stress, money, etc.  Why?  Maybe they  weren't psychologicaly ready.  Maybe they were just burnt out, yet had to keep coming back because nobody else was available.  I don't want to see a draft.  I feel we need to get out , reorganize,  replace the soilders that have been there since the beginning but definitley give more thorough medical exams before redeployment!

How can we be so strong yet be so worn out?  We have to take care of our soilders who are taking care of us, regardless of party lines or if you are for or against the war.    (Ironically 2006 is the highest suicide rate since 1991)  I wonder what "W" has to say.

i saw that article too. i haven't formed much understanding of the suicide data involving those in the military. the story is interesting though. my initial reaction was disbelief of whether a death is accidental or intentional suicide and whether some might be homicide.

The numbers indicate that suicide is higher amongst troops there for longer periods of time. Makes sense since you'd be exposed to more and more crap and be away from home for soooooo long, but maybe Abe is on to something and what we're seeing is that as our soldiers are there longer and begin to speak out against the bull honky that's going on over there they are "suicided" as Hunter S Thompson used to say.

Either way I find it disturbing that our soldiers aren't getting the very best medical care available. I'm sure you don't see suicide rates like this at Guantanamo bay.

"a death is accidental or intentional suicide and whether some might be homicide."

This is why intelligence should be admired above all else.

I feel so bad. War is an ugly business indeed.
Thanks for posting this OClee.

"He was such an hero, to take it all away. We miss him so, That you should know, And we honor him this day. He was an hero, to take that shot, to leave us all behind. God do we wish we could take it back, And now he's on our minds. Mitchell was an hero, to leave us feeling like this, Our minds are rubber, our joints don't work, Our tears fall into abyss. He was an hero, to take that shot, In life it wasn't his task, He shouldn't have had to go that way, before a decade'd past. Now he sits there in my heart, this hero of mine, Always there to make me smile, Make me feel just fine. He had courage, that boy did, courage in his heart. To take that shot, To end his pain, To tear us all apart. But in the end, he died in courage. Lacking, nevermore, He died a hero, Mitchell did, And we'll love him forevermore. We love you like a brother. We miss you so much. We will always love you, kid. Rest In Peace Mitch.

Live everyday as if it was your last and tell the people you love that you love them, as often as you can.

It must be so terribly painful for them....
It seems unmerciful to keep sending them back and back again. It should be volunteer only. We've lived in a country which is soft and easy to live in, then to go to the next thing to hell is so opposite from us, it's understandable. How can we stop this?
