Hey there everyone....

So I usually post blogs about sports, entertainment or something light hearted..well here is something weighing pretty heavy on my heart. I knew this day would come because there are several people who are close to me that are reservists in the Armed Forces and I knew one or more of them would be called to serve. It has now happened. One of my good friends, Patrick Evans, is headed for Baghdad. Patrick is also a member of the media...pretty ironic. He is the weekend anchor at my old station in New Orleans. WVUE FOX8. It is the job I passed up to come to Los Angeles. Anyway, Patrick is leaving New Orleans and FOX at the end of the month and is expected to be in Baghdad for about a year. He will most likely be handling PR but in times of war you just never know.

My colleague (and work husband) Bob DeCastro is going through this too although on a much more personal level as his brother is headed off to war. Bob comes fro a military family but it doesn't lessen the blow. By the way, I asked him if I cold talk about this before and he said yes.

So this is bringing up all sorts of emotions for me. To be honest, I have been torn on this issue of the War on Terror. I think I am like most Americans...after 9-11 I supported the President and this Administration in the War in Afghanistan but i just wasn't sold on the War in Iraq and over the years I, like many others, have become weary of this. But you want to support the troops and the reality is that we are there now...

And, above all, I support my friend in his endeavor. Patrick is scared but at the same time he is anxious he says. He also realizes that when he signed up for the Navy, ther ewas always this possibility. Now it's here. It's true what they say, I have always felt for the families who have loved ones in the war, but now that I can put a face on it it seems much more real to me.

Anyway, my friend Patrick wants to keep contact with anyone and everyone he can while in Baghdad so he asked me to pass along his information. He will blog at talktopatrick.blogspot.com. My former station in New Orleans will also be publishing e-mails and talking to him when they can. You can follow that at fox8live.com. I think it will also be interesting to see how a member of the media goes from covering the war to being an active participant in it.

What do you think?

Nischelle....good topic for the blog. I think it's important to always support the troops (even though many members of our government don't) and try to think about it this way: We are there serving a noble purpose, trying to make the world a better place. It might not be going so well at times, but we ARE trying to do the right thing.

PATRICK will be fine and all who knows him should be proud of his dedication to country..my son also joined the navy he enlisted after high school before 9-11 he was one of the very first to arrive in Iraq ..i remember the day he left i was never more proud ..and after he returned to see him walk down off the ramp of the transport plane to the tune of anchors away was one of the greatest days in my life ,,my son had left a boy came back a man...he has since reinlisted and serves these 4 years on land .. THANK YOU PATRICK AND TOO ALL THOSE WHO SERVE...

Don't worry Nischelle I am sure your friend will be ok. I had the same thing happen to me during the first gulf war. I knew when i signed up for the Army they might want to put my training to work. Keep your head up. My wife and I really love the job you are doing....take care

We will say a special prayer for Patrick Evans and Bob DeCastro's brother and their families. May God bless them and protect them.

I for one, have nothing but the utmost respect for our men and women in the Armed Forces. I respect them and admire them so much, because I believe that their love and sense of duty for their country is so strong, that even if family or they themselves don't agree with our President's decisions, they follow his commands. wow. Admirable and worthy of my respect.
I will check out Mr. Evans blog and I look forward to his comments.

Nischelle, I can relate to what you do. Periodically, I whip up batches of free audiobooks in new packages and deliver them for the troops in the field so they can enjoy American stories during the quiet times. I also have donated to help out the troops because I believe in what every one of these younger folks are doing for this country. (No, I generally don't publicize that because I do what I do because it comes from the heart.) It is unfortunate that we are in a war, we certainly didn't ask for, but they attacked us, and now Americans are answering the call of duty to secure and protect our great country and its future. In the end we will win, and every sacrifice will be remembered. It is sad that people are dying, but without fighting there, they would be here in much stronger forces than they may already be crossing our "OPEN BORDERS", to kill us all. So we must give great thanks to each and every man or woman who puts their life on the line for us and show them we care. That is the real America I know and love so dearly.

HELLO NISCHELLE,

TOUCHING WORDS OF CONCERN,HEART GOES OUT TO THOSE WHO FIGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY.....BUT A COMMITTMENT IS JUST THAT,BUT I DO BELEIVE THIS WAR HAS WENT OVER AND BEYOND,WHAT WE EVER IMAGINED! WHEN THINGS BECOME OUT OF OUR HANDS,THAT'S WERE YOUR FAITH COMES IN.... AND IF ONE HAVE A FAITH BELIEF,THEN WE KNOW WERE IN GOOD HANDS! BUT I KNOW IT'S ONE OF THE HARDEST THINGS IN THE WORLD TO EVER HAVE TO FACE SEEING OUR LOVED ONES OFF,WITH THE CONSTANT THOUGHT IN THE BACK OF YOUR MIND ABOUT THERE SAFETY....KEEP YOUR HEAD UP NISCHELLE,USE THERE COURAGE AS YOUR STRENGTH!

SMILE FOR ME.....

WAR........WhatDaProblemIz¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ nI don't agree with fighting, so WAR iz out of the question. I'm sure things could have been worked out.
What makes me mad iz,we R @ WAR and nobody but Bush(and his crew) knows why we are @ war, with Iraq that iz. It's only "POLITICS", which is code word for "MONEY"................................. So our husbands, wives, son's, daughters, and friends have 2 leave "us", 2 go fight 4 "our" Country.....or iz it really for our Country¿ It just has me puzzled and frustrated daily that the USA iz at WAR with anybody....We R the USofA...we run thangs.....So I thought....
This is soooooo sad...We continue to ship off our soldiers, but many never return. How do we deal with that as humans when we know we are in a WAR that we should not be fighting. Let me stop ranting, I don't even usually get invloved with political issues....
My prayers are with every soldier fighting or will be fighting for our "Freedom". You guys are true heros true super starz............
