...Well technically, it's all clean but the problem is I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT!!!!

HELP ME OUT HERE....

Okay, here's my dilemma: I am totally bad at folding laundry and putting it away.
Washing clothes?  No problem at all. I can wash all day like clock work.
As soon as one load's out of the wash, the other's going in. And if the clothes in the dryer aren't dry, I start hanging some of the wet clothes just to keep the process moving.

BUT....when it's time to fold and put them away, my enticement with clean laundry seems to stop right there with the laundry basket.

Yes, I have baskets of cleaning laundry crying to be folded. I've actually considered hiring someone to fold it and put it away for me!  I hate it that much!! I have to put on a movie to watch just to commit to folding.

AND, I don't seem to really have room to put everything away when I DO finally fold it.

So, what should I do??? Looking for some suggestions here to make my experience less painful...
I mean, I can't be the only one with this problem....
Do you guys wash and fold a load a day? Do you tackle all the laundry in one day?
Do you wash one day and fold another day? Are there other method's you've learned that works for you?

Help a mommy out here. I up to my neck in unfolded laundry -- literally!!

HA!!! I have an ongoing battle with laundry (and it always seems to be winning..lol). I don't mind actually doing the laundry; washing, drying, hanging, folding BUT then it just sits in my laundry room. and sits and sits and sits. I have told my husband and daughter over and over that I don't mind washing and hanging and folding, BUT PLEASE PLEASE PUT AWAY YOUR LAUNDRY. I think it must be a minor character flaw or something, but I cannot "finish" the laundry job.
So, sorry Ms Vera...I cannot help you. LOL
Good luck!!

Vera, I know what you are going thru, but try doing this for a family of 6. I hate doing laundry now and I mean HATE...I personally feel I am washing more clean clothes than I am dirty.

When all my kids were babies I had no problem washing and folding nor putting them way. I guess they just had some real handsome outfits and I love the smell of baby clothes. Now, I can let it pile up for weeks on end and that is all the dirty clothes all though it never happens that way.

Mother's Day: I washed 7 loads of laundry and just piled them on the couch and said, there are some basket of clothes needs folding.
I would be washing and I am not lying at least 7-8 loads a day. OMG I can't believe how many times my boys shower, change clothes, and plus they don't even put their clean clothes away. It gets as far as their bed or floor.

My problem is: Our home is too small for our family, we have NO closets to hang anything. All my dresses and formals are in storage in boxes getting wrinkled. We have no storage...seriously on the record, the former owner prior to us had to piece this house together like a jigsaw puzzle.

I would rather clean my house and rock from top to botton and do yard work rather than do laundry. Its one job I can not stand to do. Plus, I feel my kids owe me some laundry. HA!

I would be more then happy to help you out. I love laundry!! Since I can't cook, yes I catch water on fire I am so bad, cleaning (all aspects) is my strong point. I enjoy cleaning so much that Sunday's are spent cleaning my boyfriends home.

I am the same way. It got so bad, my cat decided to make my "clean" laundry pile her new bed...then she thought getting sick was fun. And what fun it is to clean clothes I didn't wear..again!

Ok.. I think the problem is.. where to go with it. I've seen on these help, declutter shows, that if you bring something in... something must go. Do this: Gather up things that you brought out for spring and summer and realized that you didn't wear it once last season. Donate it. Have another pile for discards/rags.

I think you just need a place to put the clothes and you won't feel so overwhelmed...

Good luck!

And.. I'm so organized now that the kids are grown. When they were growing up, we had a ping pong table in the basement. I'd wash and fold and leave their piles of clothes on the table.. and don't even mention SOCKS! I have a problem matching them up.. I HATED IT. So, I'd leave them.. unmatched in a basket on the table. I'd tell them to go claim your stuff..

Life will be easier in the future.. heh.. Enjoy your chaos..

I'll help you out..... We can have a laundry folding party at Vera's........lol

But on a serious note..... I have a professional steam iron that I use in the mornings..... No matter how wrinkled when it comes out of the closet, the steamer makes the wrinkles fall out of my clothes in less than a minute..... Wouldn't trade it for nothing..... It will work even out of your unfolded basket collection......

OMG,I do laundry once a week. even when we were raising kid's.I wash, dry and put away.I match sock's. Few month's back I lost a sock no were to be found. I know it was probably stuck in my son's pant's as I had done his laundry that day also. But I am sure he never noticed and it is on his floor at his house. Probably blend's in with the rest of the muck on his floor.Daughter same way. Alway's load's of laundry, washing everyday. No way Jose` I may leave the towel's in the dryer. As I do them last.Just incase I get side tracked. The sock's are matched and everything is put away.Yes when my kid's were home I put their clothes away.If their clothes weren't in the laundry room day of laundry,no starting the washer to have clean clothes. We were poor and still are. Certain amount of clothes and that is it.Play clothes, dress clothes and school clothe's.Our's were work clothes, yard work clothe's and dress clothe's.

The problem I think alot of people have they have way to many clothes. If they (You)don't wear it ,get rid of it.You will never wear it.

Wash,Dry, Fold, Putaway. I hate to iron now so out of the dryer real quick.
Use to love to iron. Did ironing on Wednesday night while watching my tv show's.Oh yeah that is when you sprinkled you clothes, rolled them up and put in fridge. OMG they ironed so good.
Not no more mama, if it has to be ironed out it goes.

I have found that if you own more than ten days worth of clean clothes, you own too many clothes...clean out your closets and drawers and throw away or give away excess clothes, then you will be able to get all those clothes in the drawers, and out of sight....then it will be easier to get them folded and out of the way.

Just hang it all up then you don't have to fold anything.

Okay, this is like exercising. You HAVE to do it daily or it will eat you and your home.

I do it every day. All day, every day. If I'm home, something is going round and round...If you let it pile, it's demoralizing. It happens around here, but I'm trying to be disciplined with it.

First thing that you have to do girlfriend, is WEED. WEED out your closets and drawers. Start with your child's stuff. Yep, all of that stuff that doesn't fit, or almost doesn't fit (or seasonal stuff that won't fit next fall), OUT with it. Fill those garbage bags for Goodwill. Same thing for yourself. WEED those drawers and closets. Do this on your day off and be brutal about it. Save a few things that are sentimental, but then really get serious about what you actually use.

If you do that, odds are you'll actually have enough room to put things away.

Then run those machines when you're home. I usually do my laundry in front of the television or with a cordless headset phone talking with a friend (you can do anything 'cept take a shower with one of those). It's like doing housework with a friend.

Have many baskets. When you're on a folding jag, you don't want to stop to empty the thing (unless you need to get up and walk around, then do that). Wash, rinse, repeat.

Btw, I have a sock phobia/aversion/hatred. I hate matching socks more than anything. I'd rather clean my oven..hell, I'd clean YOUR oven, even pick up dog doo in the back yard, rather than match socks.

I would also add that kid laundry is like toys. You have to weed frequently in order not to drow

I would also add that kid laundry is like toys. You have to weed frequently in order not to drown in crap. When I had one kid, I would always eyeball drawers when I put clothing away. If I saw something that I knew didn't fit, I'd yank it from the drawer immediately and ignore it. Had a running goodwill bag in her closet and just kept adding to it. When it was full, I'd plunk it in my car and drop it off the next time I was nearby. Now I do it at the end of hot weather and the end of winter with two kids. When I don't do this (like last year), oh WOE IS ME. It's ugly.

Right now my laundry is insane. We just got two puppies and I'm constantly doing 'dog towels' with this weather. AND the kids are playign with the dogs outside. Talk about multiple changes?? Dear Lord, it's bad.

Leave you with this...My mother used to say "trying to keep a house clean with kids in it, is like shoveling **** against the tide. You throw it out, it comes back in..." I daresay that this idea came to her while she was doing laundry.

Btw, once your kid is old enough to understand that 'socks go in the sock drawer', set his dresser up so that things like socks are in a bottom drawer. You can give him a plastic bag with HIS socks in it and he can put those away. Yep, it will turn into a game of basketball, but it will feel like you're getting some help. And then insist on help putting away when he's old enough to really do that. Having someone do even one step of the job helps, psychologically.

Good luck. There are a lot of mothers out here that feel your pain.

I don't mind it so much. Going up & down the steps is good exercise. My girls are 16 & 18 so they pretty much do their own. The boys are 5 & 7 so they don't yet change 50 times a day & they always put their dirty clothes in the basket I keep at the end of the hall.

I bring my laundry up to the kitchen & fold it there so that it has to get put away. I hate to iron and never do it unless I have to. I keep a can of "Majic Wrinkle Remover" in the linen closet just in case!

Rubbermaid is a friend of mine & loves to take care of our "out of season" clothes for me and I always seem to have a running "goodwill" bag by the front door.

Good luck, Vera. I feel your pain. My first husband thought we should do laundry daily (I preferred once or twice a week) so he washed it, dried it & piled it up on the table in the basement...drove me nuts!
